NATURAL HAIR HORROR STORY | MY WORST SALON EXPERIENCE

PHOTOS AT THE END OF THE VIDEO
UPDATE: I sent an email yesterday to the salon regarding the haircut. The team replied promptly to offer me to return yesterday or today to try to fix the cut. I have declined as I do not want to travel so far again and also I will try to fix the cut myself today. I also don't think I want to risk having too much cut off again.
Hi everyone
I was in tears yesterday as I went to a salon to get a trim and treatment but ended up with an uneven cut and straight pieces at the front of my hair. This video is unedited as I wanted to give my initial reaction on the same day and the very next morning.
Please comment below to advise whether I should big chop again or try to shape this into a small afro.
Love
Annie Liane

Get it braided. Take a break. Take a moment. Keep it braided for about 2 months. In the meantime, it's growing, and your not doing anything drastic. That hair stylist is so wrong.

I’ve booked an appointment in a 3 days and now I’m rethinking it. 😟 I’ve looked at my stylist’s insta page and she seems skilled with curly hair but now I’m worried.
@theandrealiane
@theandrealiane 3 года назад
I would not recommend the salon based on my experience but we are all free to make our own decisions. What I would say is if you go to any salon request a consultation prior to the appointment to ensure you and the stylist are on the same page. Also take photographs and be up front with your expectations. This may not always work though as I did write on the booking form for this appointment what my expectations were and sadly got these results.

Cut it to even it out asap. Just pull the bandaid off. The longer you look at it, the more depressed you'll feel. Braid your hair and wear protective styles for fall and winter. You'll be back to new no time. Advice from someone whose been there.

Thank you! I'm just scared to even find a braider at this point as well though. I will try to find a reputable one. I tried to do mini twists today but the unevenness is so bad I have various lengths of twists

I'm crying with you. I know some people will say it's just hair but I wish they understood and respected that hair means different things to different people. To some of us, we ARE our hair. You'll recover but in the meantime it's ok to grieve your loss. This is why I don't go to salons - even natural hair salons. I just cannot trust anyone to touch my hair to be honest. I am so sorry this happened to you.

Sweet sister, we all feel your pain. As Black women, it is a crowning achievement to grow our natural hair long and come to love it. It must feel like a betrayal to have someone else destroy it. You are also probably a little mad at yourself for letting someone touch your crown. But girl, you have learned and you will come out of this better than ever. You are helping us by sharing this story. I don't think you should fix the cut right away, just give it a few months and baby it until you get it back to the state that you remember. Then after a few months decide if you want another cut (only do it yourself). We are with you girl! xoxo

Awwwwe, cry hunny. It’s okay to express yourself, and your emotions are 100% valid. You have spent years investing and taking good care of your hair. I too have experienced a similar situation, and it took 2+ years with multiple trims for my hair to recover. Be gentle with yourself as you heal mentally and emotionally from this traumatic experience. You didn’t know, so it’s not your fault at all. With time, try to forgive yourself and the stylist that failed your haircut. Luckily, your hair will grow back so beautifully in no time. Thank you for sharing, and have a blessed day ❤️

Wow Sis, so sorry. Unfortunately some stylists just don't know how to properly style natural hair. Especially when it comes to cutting. Many use an unconventional random pull and cut technique that leaves your hair looking uneven when its complete. You can cut the hair wet and curly as long as its stretched even before cutting. This happens often unfortunately making it very hard for naturals to trust going to a stylist. Probably recutting is best so your hair doesn't break. Of course it will grow back but it doesn't take away from the trauma you feel now.
@theandrealiane
@theandrealiane 3 года назад
You are very correct. I don't know if I could ever go back to another salon anytime in the near future. This has really been an awful experience for me and one I don't ever want to go through again. I wish more stylists learned how to properly take care of natural hair and adopted correct techniques for trimming and cutting textured hair.

I had my hair done today…. They took 6 inches off when I asked for a trim and they thinned it out. I cried but you know what I’ll make an appointment at deeper than hair and get them to make it even and start over. I’ll get 6 inches back in a year I know I can do it. I’m just in shock. But everyone’s telling me I can grow it back and hair DOES grow back so it will be ok.

It was promoted as a leading salon for natural/Afro hair but literally what happened to you- a lopsided disaster, my hair was just hacked into and lost 5inches with sooo much unevenness. After I transitioned i didnt know much about natural hair and I went to a "so called" natural hair specialist for a wash n go. All her photos on her IG page was different type 4 clients and it looks like she knew how to handle many hair types. Lucky I only went for a wash n go. And didn't get a cut or silk press. Let's just say it was a waste of about $80. She did my wash n go with some type of mousse. Once they product dried my hair was dryer than it had ever been; it didn't didn't even feel like hair it was so dry. And it was in the most strunken state possible like a dry sponge. From then on I learned more about my hair and did my own hair, and it has been flourishing and growing. I will never let someone else do my hair now. I've only had bad or mediocre experiences. I can do bad myself. Not going to pay good money for it.

Hi my hunny , I am so sorry for your experience . I hope you are doing better now . I know exactly how you feel . I decided to treat myself by getting my hair professional styled at a natural hair salon. I walked in with a full head of thick healthy natural hair , and walked out twith a big asss bald spot on the side of my head . I cry everytime I touch it , and feel scalp . I also had clusters of dried hair glue throughout my hair because they glue the ponytail to my actual hair 😒. We have to protect our crown from these people that don’t understand/value our hair, even if they “claim” they do. Sending much love ❤️

I want to encourage you coming from someone who went through setbacks and hairstylist mishandling my hair you will have a wonderful recovery from this experience and your hair will grow back beautifully and be better than before. Im 14 years natural and my hair is thriving since Ive been taking care of it myself. One of my biggest lessons was that I can't trust most hairstylist to do my hair. Ive had several ups and downs highs and lows but through it all Ive learned so much. I had to learn what my hair needed through research as well as trial and error. Oh no so sorry you had that experience with your hair. I’d be devastated too knowing all my hard work to retain my hair length and health just went down the drain. What I wanna know too is what on earth did the stylist use to cause the front straight texture???? Looks like the stylist had no clue how to work with coily hair and that’s trifling that they weren’t upfront about that.
@theandrealiane
@theandrealiane 3 года назад
The front is definitely damaged and I don't know what happened but someone mentioned perhaps it was a product that was used. I've been trying to get it to curl up but the most I'm achieving is a slight wave. I will just have to grow this out and hope the actual follicles aren't damaged.

So sorry. This was done to me a few years ago. I normally do my own hair, but I wanted to treat my self for my bday. I didn't even go for a trim. When I realized they were cutting my hair. I said, "I did not ask for a cut." Their response, "Girl I am just trimming these ends" Well they give me the same hair cut!! And the sides and back were even shorter I cried all the way home.
@theandrealiane

That is awful! Even more so because it was for your birthday and you didn't even want a trim. I'm sorry about that. Did it grow out nicely after that experience? Thanks for commenting
@kathyj3573

Yes eventually. But it took a awhile. Because it was so uneven. Like you random parts were short. So I have to keep cutting and/or trimming as it grew. I could not do ponytails. I learned to do twist outs. Wash and goes made me basically re-live that nightmare. Once it got to a length I was comfortable with, I went back to wash and goes.

I needed to know that I'm not alone,I was not being too much when I cried tears,I went for a trim like you after lockdown I thought I would get myself pampered,get that little massage while they wash your hair (which I did not have) instead I felt like hairdresser kept pilling shampoo on my hair shaft than getting my scalp clean, I had worked hard for through lockdown to achieve 4 centimeter and it was all butchered.i think what upset me I don't know if ignorance or lack of knowledge but when the hair dresser advice me straighten my hair with iron after I told her I don't use heat on my hair,I have fine hair and I'm on a natural hair journey and trying to retain length and healthy thick hair,I then knew she nothing about natural hair and i was like I am never going back there.i have learned to braid myself all sorts of style's because I did not want hair to be pulled out my scalp so I guess now I need to learn to trim my ends myself. I realized that I needed to put my hair away to heal from all of this and still in tears when i think about it.i went into salon with soft, shiny kink's and walked out with dry bone,pale hair.sending love to all naturals❤️

How can one be so careless and reckless. If you don't know what you're doing, admit that, and pass the client on to a real professional. Nobody wants to be your experiment. Yes protective styles would be the way forward from now on. I don't think I would say it was done on purpose though, or at least I won't like to think so. I think the curl by curl cut on shrunken hair just isn't a method that I would try on my hair again in the future. I would blow dry my hair and trim the ends so I can see exactly how much is being cut.

Were they Caucasian? With black hair you can’t go to “curl bar” type of places. They don’t know what they’re doing. Black hair shrinks ups more than other textures. Really sad. It will grow though. Just do braids and use castor oil on the ends of the hair. x It’s fine, everything will be okay ☺️ Just don’t go back to those people or anyone who deal with “curls”. Afro curls are different and needs different care x
