This year's team doesn't come close to '92. The media has to mismatch in order to make them relevant. Why didn't they compare Lebron to MJ? Because there's no comparison. MJ was playing with other stars and stated that he just 'wanted to be one of the boys'. But, when it was needed, he went ballistic (ask Kukoc). The sad thing is, you can go watch the '92 games if you didn't see them live like I did. If you do go watch them, start with the Tournament of the Americas. The US had to qualify to make the Olympics. First game, in the first 4 minutes or so, Magic makes an errant pass. MJ chases it down from the middle of the floor, jumps out of bounds with a behind the back pass to Bird who drains the shot. For me, it's not just about the skill level that the '92 team had that makes them better. They took great pride in playing for their country and winning gold. You can see the pride and the fire in how they played. BTW, MJ, Chris Mullen, and Patrick Ewing had already won gold in '84.
Imagine that the only way USA basketball (and the NBA) found to get relevance in the media is to trash the past team(s), that's sad and I bet you won't find another sport where you can see that, it just shows how ESPN and so on think of today's average basketball fan. Honestly, I don't even know if I can argue that AD is better than '92 Ewing. It's a debate, but Ewing also averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks per game. He finished top five in MVP voting and also made the All-NBA Second Team, but Second Team defense. However, his competition at center was far stiffer than AD's, especially on the defensive side. The Knicks also finished as the fourth seed with 51 wins, while my Lakers won fewer games. Ewing didn't have anyone close to as good as LeBron as a teammate, despite his flaws at 39. Just comparing impact, Ewing was a far more dominant player. AD is more skilled and versatile, but Ewing was simply the better player. Stats can be skewed due to rule differences, officiating, and style of play.

The "Dream Team" was the dream team because the world got to watch Larry and Magic play together as they ended their basketball careers. There is an argument for other teams like the redeem team and 96 imo. I dont see the argument for 24 though. The problem with looking at teams like this, is everyone wants to see the name and the career and imagine them as in their prime but this version of '24 teams greatest names are the worst version of themselves and yes, Bird was just there for a name at that point-though he could play well in his spot minutes. Obviously had he been a few years prior-he'd start at the 3 and there is no comparison. Bird being in that state and forcing the team to select a college player (unless it had been Shaq), really does hurt the 92 dream team when younger generations look back on it. Hell, i wish Hakeem had gotten his citizenship by then rather than imagine if Nique didn't tear his achilles or Zeke played. Stockton and Mully being white will always hurt the team appeal even though the league is being run by white Euros now. People dont realize how good Mully was at that time and he along with Ewing and Jordan won gold in 84 together so the 3 of them being all stars in 92 it only made sense they'd player together again. Its just that Mullin isnt a generational name so they wont respect it like they should at 92 in his peak and perfect fit for that team. Basically Mullin was a taste how unstoppable that team would have been with a healthier Brid, but ultimately Mullin stood on his own.
Pippen defensive is second to none. One of the greatest drivers to the basket. Great passer. He could defend 1 through 4. Ewing was awesome. I got to see him back in the 80's. Dominant!!
