I walked into a scientology centre over 20 years ago. I did their personality and IQ tests. The IQ test result had me pegged somewhere above normal. But it was my personality results that made them say, "Damn, you need help and fast!" I was left with the guy that reviewed my test results. It was me, him and the book he was trying so hard to sell. I was a bullish young man at the time and recognised that this was a hard sell set up. Somebody else would've 'caved in' to buying the book and a place on several courses - I refused multiple times and got up and didn't feel damn thing about it. At that age I was looking for something but that doesn't mean I suspend my common sense or made allowances just to force something to 'fit' and make sense.

Scientology didn't take money from me because I had none neither did they take my own personal belief of what "god" is to me. They took the most precious treasure I had , my beautiful 15 year old child who was brainwashed by them into believing she was worthless and undeserving of life. She became confused , depressed and frightened. They threatened, stalked, bullied and intimidated me because I tried to get her away from them. I am so glad Cathy Schenkelberg got her child away in time.

In total she had handed over 983,000 USD to the cult - so that would have been the piggy bank for the rainy day, when her work didn't go so well (she did a lot of voice overs and made good money with it - obviously). $ientology prefers to NOT PAY WAGES (they make exceptions for private investigators and lawyers of course). So the staff within the cult are always UNPAID volunteers expected to work 60 - 80+ hour weeks. There is staff, 2 or 5 year contracts or the elite "order" the Sea Org with (symbolic) 1 billion year contracts. They have a military hierarchy, a vast bureaucraZy, spying apparatus, etc. Children of $ientologists are groomed into the cadet org and when they are 14 or 15 they are hounded down to join the Sea Org (if their parents do not stand up to such harrassment - and the cult notices very well the kids and parents they can intimidate or pressure (see Derek Bloch for instance). If possible, they do it. Get them before the kids go to college, become economically independent, and get some knowledge about the real world. Get them before they know a lot of people outside of Scientology. Recruiting completely new members has become very, very hard, because of the bad press $ientology got. These days one can do a web search and all kinds iof negative and wild stories will pop up. An aquaintance did the personality test in the 90s and and an interview afterwards (to find out the interests, ambitions, goals and problems - and already highly intrusive questions were asked). When that encounter was mentioned to a friend (now a common friend) - he was like: "Don't you know that they PROGRAM people ?". (At least one sibling could have warned as well - but adult siblings are not always around to give good advice at the right time - the targeted person was completely unaware what Scientology was). Anyway: that was the end of the counseling.

I was lucky to see Kathy (the woman being interviewed) speak live. She is a really talented speaker and her full story is really enthralling to hear.

When she said her life wasn’t hers she’s right. They tale you to a Dr. They do not leave you alone in the room another member or two much stay with you at all times. I worked at an Urgent Care near the Hemet Compound. They would bring people in uniform escorting other members and stand outside the door or they stay in the room. If it was a female who had male escorts they would turn their back of a woman needed a pelvic exam. Our X-ray room was in the back. They would go in first to ensure they’re are no exit doors then allow the patient to enter. I could never understand it until one day the physician on duty explained it to me. They knew he helped get a member out of the organization. Since then they are monitored closely when they come in. I’m face he was surprised they even come into the clinic. They had a “nurse” on staff but she couldn’t prescribe medication. It was very creepy!

I support religious freedom, but there is something unique about the way Scientology extracts money (very large amounts of money) from its followers. You cannot buy salvation! I am out of Scientology now and I ain't never going back!
