I have cut a key way on my lathe. I was making an aluminum cam sprocket hub for a Honda 9.9 outboard motor. I had no idea how I was going to cut the slot but YT to the rescue! I found some vids outlining the simple process.
I wondered about that upside down broach... but you caught it before you ruined it! Good video, but remember the safety glasses. You're only issued 1 pair of eyes!
Here's something that works for me on my press, I keep a plastic milk crate under the press filled with rags ect to catch the items that escape sometimes lol. It's saved me from damaging tools and parts that may have hit the concrete or the press frame. Yes I know oily rags can be a fire hazard but I put the crate outside when it's not in use. Just a thought
Now for an oncore ..duel keyways blower application. I was asked if i could do it at my home shop. Referred him to were i retired from. Said I don't have tools to do it. They brooches and a Key setter machine. Your thoughts on how you would index that ? I've done my timing chain set before. The available of the 3 weren't what i wanted for cam timing. Great no nonsense videos from this channel.
I have broached a lot of coupling and I see that you made the same mistake I have made when I was in a hurry that the broach ran at a angle and one side was deeper than the others. When you turned you broach bushing down did you mill the slot deeper also so when you use your shim that the final depth would be right around .095?
It was straight after the 2nd pass, that's why a keyseater is so much nicer, I have a nice big ring for them to set on, it helps alot, but I couldn't find it, that where the issue was
Hey Daniel, Tim here, i've done broachin myself, but never on a damper......how do you know the index is correct for the timing mark, or, is that later???....neat to watch.....most of the broaching i ever did was fairly easy, on softer metal....cud ya tell me about timing index???...TY brother!!!.....
@@powellmachineinc3179 yes, i was informed of that today.....i had no idea, never fooled with one.....i'm all old school ICE.......i DONT like computers, or EFI.....gimme a carb, and a distributor, and i can fix it......got schooled.....so, then my question is why do u need the keyway??......no dist, cam/crank sensors do the timing.....still curious, and TY for takin the time to respond!!!!...PEACE my brother!!
If you have a crank that is keyed for this and you choose to not use the key way, and use the factory press on, does the key way slot effect balance? Can you just leave it out?
You need a third hand to operate that press. I've never seen one with two valves to control. We run broaches at work from time to time. A guy had one break. It shot out of the press and stuck him in the arm. Good thing the press isn't a foot shorter.
You would have done a much better job if you had used a torque plate on your press...also the oil can would have lubricated the keyway better if it was torque plated as well...they make micro torque plates for those old school oil cans in the aftermarket world of torque plates...i noticed a ladder, pair of pliers and a tractor in the background...i hope you have torque plated them properly...lol!!!...sorry to bring up older video but its still on my mind and i thought it was funny and did yall ever figure out the "raman" noodle package deal?...that was funny too:)
Hey man. I was directed to your channel because i heard you could regrind factory camshafts. I was wondering if you had a website i could peruse or if not. I have a ford 4.6l dohc out of a 1994 lincoln mark viii. And i'm looking for a cheaper alternative to do a set of "performance" camshafts without dropping multiple G's on a set of new ones. Thanks 🤙
