Production was briefly halted when Neil Breen was attacked by a clan of ground squirrels in the Mojave Desert. This was on IMDB trivia for this movie 😂 🐿
Is there any sourcing required for IMDB trivia? Pretty sure it can be just as "reliable" as Wikipedia. I just fucking love the fact there's a dude driving around the desert with shitty obsolete satellites strapped to his car, a dozen busted laptops, running around screaming in the hills thinking he's making a genuine sci-fi thriller.
I agree, I like how casually these reviews are done, so many other RU-vid reviewers try way too hard to be funny, in my opinion, while Mark just naturally is funny.
right?! It seems that actual talent and hard work is completely ignored on this platform while "influences" make millions on vids of them buying a new hat or similar BS. I look forward to when Mark gets RLM/YMS/IHE level exposure. The guy does great work and he's literally my only patreon.
@@ajpimpsall That's because some people are PAYING to get content promoted on RU-vid, instead of being paid for it. I'm looking at you Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Carr, SNL, news channels, Colbert etc. Google realises there is more money to be made by corporations paying them, than paying out money. The irony is that they are producing the precise kind of content most people once ran to RU-vid to get away from. I don't completely hate Kimmel or Colbert, but I find Mark here funnier than them. As for SNL, for every funny sketch, they make ten unfunny ones.
Maybe, but from my personal experience they look like passion projects. They have love in them but that's pretty much what they have. Scams on the other hands are devoid of care and magic. Even Boll could shot his movies competently and direct a scene but if you can find anything even remotely personal or passionate then... well... I dunno. I didn't planned this sentence very well. XD Neil Breen, just like Jame Nguyen, are piss poor filmmakers but share a lot in common. Their movies are telling more on their personality than anything else: pretty much like having a group tour in their convoluted, twisted minds...
I dunno if that's the case with Neil Breen, supposedly he made millions in real estate and that's how he finances these abominations. But generally speaking, money laundering and trash movies are going hand in hand. For example,Uwe Boll's movies were all financed by exploiting a loophole in german tax law, where you could get huge tax write offs,as a movie producer. His investors actually got money from an EU fund for cinema, which was intended to support film makers! The german gouverment has closed this loophole, couple of years ago that's why he stopped making movies. Also, lots of organised crime is using b-movies and porn productions, for money laundering. It's rumoured that many big porn studios are either owned or have ties to organised crime. And then, there's Tommy Wiseau's ''The Room'',which off. cost 6 million USD to make.Greg Sestero(the guy who plays ''Mark'') asked Wiseau about the money in his book and Tommy claimed that he made the money during a business endeavour with some partners, where they imported italian designer clothes from S.Korea and sold them to various boutiques in Cali. Not knock-offs,genuine italian stuff,Gucci,Armani,Versace etc. And if that doesn't sound shady, get this. A journalist who tried to make a documentary about Tommy Wiseau was hit with a restraining order by his lawyers, nobody actually knows that guy's real name or where he comes from.
I wanted to make very politically incorrect joke involving Mark and condition the girl in the movie had, but that would be too much so I stopped myself from doin it
@@Timliu92 not in this one, though. that's Fateful Findings. a true masterpiece; you have to watch it to get the real impact of his chilling emotional performance.
At least stuff *happens* in The Room, both the location *and* the movie. And there’s also some level of story progression, some indication of character development. Not positive character development, but it kinda sorta counts. Double Down, on the other hand... There’s really no indication of anything going on nor is there any real meaningful character development.
Mark, did you lose your job..? Is everything alright at home? You are way too video-productive _(Edit: Please, I am just joking guys, it's a running gag that he's not consistently uploading but thx for your wholesome replies, ok)_
However, Neil Breen can cure my insomnia (NOT CANCER) because I can't stay awake to watch every masterpiece of him for more than 30 minutes. P.S. I've been waked at once when the film running to the part he screaming "WHERE ARE YOU".
Neil's real life backstory sounds like he was the kid who wanted to go see rated R Action movies as a kid, but had parents that we super religious. So when he came of age, he used all his resources to make the movies he never got to see.
Whenever I need a non stop laugh, I watch Marks Neil Breen 'movie' reviews. The fact that neither I or Mark know what the f*ck is going on cracks me up 🤣😂💻
Plot: A documentary, not a fictional story, of Neil Breen suffering psychopathological delusions brought on by Sleep Paralysis, (Breen Dream), and presenting symptoms like rubbing goldbond medicated powder 15:25 on strangers. Concludes with Neil ameliorating his condition by becoming a patriot through a vision quest 18:52
Line from movie review: "This stunningly terrible film shows the fathomless depths of Breen's pathetic desperation." Neil's takeaway for movie poster blurb: "Stunning..." "Desperation..." EDIT: sorry I should have been clearer that I meant to say the original review was probably something scathing like that but Neil only saw it as praise. It's not a real review.
Neil Breen is Ed Wood reborn , I love how he is making his dream come true when he does not have the means are understanding of how film works. Its a good message to people who want to get into film just do it who cares if your bad at it and no want wants to see it. I wish more people would do this when it comes to making your dreams and idea real.
I think Double Down is a - possibly very personal - story about loss and acceptance. I've watched it a number of times and I'm seeing something along the lines of a man who loses a loved one, and goes on a spree of retribution against the world he feels that took her from him. His psychosis and denial run so deep that he keeps the remains of the woman around. Throughout the film he uses his skills as a previously sanctioned covert operative for his own selfish ends. Towards the end of the movie he has a moment of clarity (the line "When I sleep, I'm with you. When I'm awake, I'm so alone" is a turning point) and realization that his vengence won't bring her back, and he regrets his plans of destruction. Some of the last shots is of him as a boy walking down a road, with the her gone, which symbolizes him letting go of his past. The very last scene is him driving down the highway, her in the backseat, and thanking her for having loved him. He is now free, and can live again. Edit: Forgot to mention - I think the title Double Down (as in doubling down) may be referring to how he clings on to the past and tries to undo what has happened.
@@enlightenednormie242 Hi, no, I'm being sincere. Don't blame you though, most people look at me like I've said the moon is made out of cheese when I put this opinion forward. That said, I don't necessarily think all of Breen's movies are sincere - I think he has become self-aware over time - but I believe Double Down is. Thing is, Double Down was his first movie. When you make your first movie, especially if it's in a serious genre like a spy thriller, and before the world has labelled you a hack, you try to make the best movie you can. That includes having subtext and pretend to be "high film". It just happens to be almost incomprehensible unless you know what Breen was thinking when he made the movie. Breen is not a wholly incompetent idiot. An odd bird for sure but going by his professional background, he's of at least average intellect. And, as poorly structured and shot as his films are, they are somewhat complete. Completing a movie does not happen by chance, even movies this poor, so he clearly has dedication to filmmaking. So it seems logical that under the janky exterior, these movies make sense to Breen. Now, if we were talking about Twisted Pair, then I'd agree that it's just Breen hamming it up for his fanbase.
@@TaramiBedona Your analysis actually makes a bit of sense. The thing about art is that everybody has something to say. Their own story, their own message, their own perspective. Sadly, not everybody has the technical know how to competently realize their vision. Yes, Neil's movies suck. They have terrible acting, writing, cinematography, effects, production, terrible everything! His movies are a laughing stock that I and everyone else who's watched them pretty much only watches in an ironic "so bad it's good" sense. But, if you look past all the bad production quality, there is clearly someone who has a story to tell, a message to send. He just lacks the filmmaking competency to do so. And really, a whole lot of quote on quote terrible media actually has some very good underlying messages and story elements if you look past the badness. The Star Wars prequels for example, casting aside the bad acting and cheesy dialouge has a very good story about government corruption and Shakespearean tragedies. Plan 9 from Outer Space has an underlying message about manknd's self destructive behavior. Even the Joel Schumacher Batman films have a few moments of genuine characterization. So yeah, I'm glad there's people out there who look past the cheese factor and actually take the time to intellectually analyze a piece of media.
Neil Breen is greatest film writer and director the world has ever seen. He leaves his imaginative & brilliant films open to interpretation & his films are so futuristic in their genius, they will be reinterpreted by future generations thousands of years from now. When we are eventually visited by super intelligent alien life forms, if we are to give them just 1 thing to take back to their home planet in order to best show all the other aliens who we human beings truly are as a member of this universe, it should be a Neil Breen film. That's the Breenius of Neil
@@flaccidego4291 All your sarcasm aside, a Neil Breen movie is a better representation of mankind than most movies; very flawed but fundamentally well-intentioned. Also, have you watched Breen's movies? The aliens are clearly already here and Breen is one of them.
That scene with the old man was genius hahaha I died from watching that poor guy appear then die out of a small fall in less than 5 seconds. Has way more emotional impact than most +100 million Hollywood movies
Nah Uwe Bolls movies just suck, they aren't enjoyably bad like Breens or Wiseaus. Just have them 2 direct it, it would be the most incoherent but hilarious movie ever
Love your “snarky / smart ass” tone! The dry humor works for you... most can’t pull that off. It’s what makes your channel a little different. Keep it up so I don’t lose my faith in mankind .
I like how when the guy kicked over the boots and showed Neil in the back of the car it was actually a different colored car than the one he was supposed to be in
Re-watching this for the second time (maybe third?) since I found your channel. It was probably the review I laughed the most. Hilarious. I truly love your videos, man. You are currently my favorite youtuber, which is amazing if you put in consideration that I've found your channel about a year ago (and not many videos were posted since then). I wish people were more into talk about bad movies, 135k subscribers is way to little for what the channel deserved. Grettings from Brazil, Mark! Keep up the great work!
This review is just hilarious, I'm watching it a fourth time in a row and it still makes me laugh with a snort. Keep it up with your Breen reviews, Mark!
This was awesome. I laughed all the way through this. Omg I damn near died at the “contact” part. How can a man die on contact but still walk away after contact??? THE POWER OF NIEL BREIN!!
Found your channel quite recently and this is the first video you've uploaded since then :) In my opinion, you are definitely the most underrated movie reviewer I've come across on YT, so glad I found your channel! All the best to you from Finland
Great video! Fun, witty and informative. Your comments are spot-on and hilarious, like always. I like your dry delivery and sarcasm. The brain cancer scene was... brutal LOL. And I especially liked the part from 15:40 to 16:20. Keep up the good work. Glad to see you uploading more often now. Would you mind reviewing "The Ninth Gate" next, please?
That tee-shirt is great!! I think wearing it would be an interesting social experiment to see how many people understand the reference, plus if they do I already know we're going to be best friends.
someguy ihate or, is it a custom porn scam? Where he keeps making movies to eventually have a feature length film worth of nude scenes of him and beautiful women.
Strange but true twist: Uwe ended up having one of the best reviewed restaurants in Vancouver. I’m too poor to even touch the front door of the place but I hear it’s amazing.
Did anyone read the description on the promo shot at the end? . "The controversial story of a lone genius who closes down the Las Vegas strip...The government can't stop him...as he reunites with his dead girlfriend each night". SO MUCH to unpack. Not touching the punctuation issues, he never seemed to bother the vegas strip beyond killing that one wrong groom and instantly killing that other guy...IN 5 MINUTES! That's just a regular Friday night in Vegas. But the funniest part is that it reads like the Government is trying to stop him from reuniting with his dead girlfriend each night. "Hey you! Stop reuniting with your dead girlfriend!
Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to the channel(about 5 months), and I've watched every Bad Movies probably twice over or more because they make me laugh so hard. The times that me and my friends have watched them during a night of drinking, I almost died laughing. Hoping to see NEW films being worked on for Bad Movies, theres so much out there to choose from and none better to break them down. Keep it up please
I love how this review is still very different than the other 999 reviews that I saw about this movie. Mark adds such a personal touch to this garbage lol
Credit should go first to the film crew that shot and put the movie together, in spite of the guy directing them 😅. Same for the cast who had to make do with Tommy's "script"
Theres a gulf war ribbon not sure of the others...you get it by being in the gulf war at the time..you dont have to actually be fighting I got mine because I was in boot camp at the time 😆
