I loved my Neumann NDH20 Closed Back headphones , been a game changer for mixing , so will be interested to see what the 'open back NDH30' sound like when I get a chance to try them.

I recently switched from 650s to NDH30; the Neumann are more comfortable; easier to drive and low end is way better without being exaggerated; the 650s sound somewhat similar in the mid and high frequencies ; but you need to eq the low frequencies to feel the bass; I used sonarworks with the 650s and the results were pretty good, but I don’t need to use sonarworks with the neumann’s and yet they give a bit extra in the low frequencies in comparison to the 650s+sonarworks; a more natural low end I’d say.
I'm all about my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 ohm. Great value and quality. I haven't tried the Neumanns but even if they are better I really doubt they'll justify spending near 500$ extra for them.
if you're like me you watch stuff like this and go "well, maybe next life", here's an ultralow budget alternative. don't get fooled by its ridiculously low price: Superlux HD681. really.
I use my akg k712 pros to do vocal recording and for mixing. I just turn down the gain and use a gate. But it's definitely not the cleanest way to record. I just haven't gotten a closed back set yet.

i really, really like your video (s) .. but i could not agree with the new neumann headphones , i listen them in berlin a few days ago .. first: please compare them to nearly sameprice products "open and/or closed" headphones second: if you start listening the headphones to existing music 70/80/90 etc .. not your own mix .. for "me" they sounds over articulated in the upper & higher region and so you will maybee decide differently in you own mixing / mastering decisions :) i dont wanna blame anybuddy , cause even the anatomic hearing is different by every person , in that case "my ears and my brain" hug 😀
Ecactly. I get that this is a fluff piece meant to just demonstrate the basics, but there's about a 5x price difference between the headphones. The comparison is absolutely pointless. And even though Reid does some great mixing, I've yet to hear a production that I'd consider "testing headphones" -good. Electronic music mostly sucks for that anyway.
prefer open back. The highest quality ones i've used was sennheiser hd590. Although i wish they weren't made out of plastic because i've broken 3 sennheiser headphones over the past 20 years.
Open Back all day every day, the only case where you really want closed back is if your a normie or need the isolation from the outside world or scenarios where you need to prevent the leaking to the outside world
The Prism Titan is a terrible sounding interface imo. Tried it and apart from the software that is total chaos, the sound was detailed but steril and muffled. The Apollo X is a far better converter.
Try out the Austrian audio High x65 open backs. Those are incredible....smooth and detailed.. I also have the hi x 55 closed backs. And the 65's make them sound like crap. Lol
impedance doesn't tell you how hard they are to drive the headphone is to drive it's actually the sensitivity because you can have a 600 ohm headphone and it can be like 100 decibels and you can drive it with no problem out of a smartphone still not going to get the best results not using a headphone amp and a dac that's pretty much all headphones especially if you're not going balanced with the headphone but you're going to get good volume out of it and Actually the simplest answer is high impedance is better and open back is superior and because the higher impedance is in a headphone the less dynamic compression it has and the more detail it has let's say 250 headphone it's going to sound super compressed not a lot of Dynamics and details especially with planar magnetic headphones at the higher the ohms on a planar magnetics the better they sound and the better they are for mixing mastering and or monitoring and they're not called ear cups they are called ear pads
At least they will be used longer than phones that also cost 500-1k but get used only for 3-5 years. My dt990 headphones are doing great for already over 10 years and if I don't upgrade I guess they will also survive the 20 year mark.
@@FunFreakeyy I also owned dt990 headphones. After 2 weeks I had to fix it, I had to solder a wire that was not soldered properly. These headphones broke after 5 years and could not even be repaired. They were good to wear but I am not happy with the build quality. Also, there was always something wrong with the distribution of the stereo field. Headphones that are intended for professionals should last longer without defects and provide a decent ease of use. I took good care of the headphone, still it broke ,never again !
