The song dates back at least to the mid-1800s. As with many old folk songs, the lyrics change over time, but the fiddle tune is something I've known for as long as I can remember (I'm 64).

In Australia around 1995/96 this was huge and was a great song to dance to, everyone got up for this one and we all got a real workout. Loved it!!

I went to college in 96 - and remember dancing around the bar to this in my cowboy boots with my friends. It is SO much fun - and SUCH a huge workout. We'd all be exhausted by the end of it. If you want to hear our CANADIAN, super fun drinking song - please check out Home for a Rest - by Spirit of the West. It's a total banger - gets you dancing right out of your chair. Have never seen this group's version of this song. The origins of the song go back to pre-Civil War days and has been heard in traditional American country music in various forms for a long time. While acknowledging that these current musicians are talented, I don't think I'm one to appreciate this new spin.

Hilarious, both - original and cover. For Tommy there's almost no genre he hasn't covered or covers on his channel. Hear for example his Italian covers etc. And Rednex is also worth to dive deeper - they have beautiful songs like "Wish you were here" and "Spirit of the Hawk". 🎶

I'm not talking about origin here, I'm talking everyone and his mother must have heard this version of the song! This is not the original. Cotton Eye Joe is much older than the 90s. I remember listening to the song back in the 70s. If I am not mistaken Cotton Eye Joe is played in the movie Urban Cowboy.

These are his tools. He plays many instruments. By the way, Tommy claims that he can play the violin, but he doesn’t have this instrument, so he says that he doesn’t know how to play. And you have to watch this video carefully to see all of Tommy's jokes. All of Tommy's covers are excellent. Everything he does, he brings to perfection. Tommy is an absolute genius and talent.

Dan vasc es muy bueno, pero Tommy es un dios. Lo he escuchado mucho y literal me hace ver mis propios errores de voz XD. Ese hombre es increible. Tommy es demasiado maravilloso. Solo compara show must go on.. Hay buenos covers sin duda, pero una voz como la de Tommy es incomparable. Hay muy pocos tenores en el power metal
