That noise is the cush drive cover being way too tight. Had the same noise on mine, you have to back out the screws slightly on the cover and noise went away. The cover is still very tight and snug btw.

I have it but no mention of any changes to its programming I ran the stock esc all of 2021 in the orange xmaxx at big Bertha are the titles of that series 👍

@@earlmoorhead5555 On the version two of the 6S they fix the problem with the catching on fire, but the gears you are correct. It wouldn’t be able to handle that right out of the box. You would have to upgrade the gears.

@ctpreddog1411 v2 was the 8s or the 6s conversion needed differential updates as well 🤔

@@earlmoorhead5555 The V2 6S what Traxxas correction to the problem and then they started color coating shock bodies to the vehicles color unlike V1 but they never upgraded the gears until Gen2 8S model

Yes I just sold my XRT my 10 year old xmaxx and my 5 year old wide xmaxx and replaced it with one new xmaxx as the slight design changes made it a better basher stock 😮not saying the older ones where bad just needed little upgrades to make it reliable like the rpm rear bearing carriers with the bigger bearing are now stock on this version 👌

@@earlmoorhead5555 Yeah I went through and ordered the updated caster blocks and the bigger bearings (it was a kit) if thats what you're talking about. My wide xmaxx never seems to break but all I do is similar light bashing too you. Do you own any kraton 8s? I just got 2 on trade somehow and they're totally different animals .... got me to into upgrading.

Yes I’ve never paid full list for an xmaxx most cash prices are cheaper at local hobby shops I don’t mind asking for a cash price for an rc car 👍💯

Unlike cars purchase dates are important with rc cars as they are updated without consumers notice as the rc companies dont always tell us when something gets an update , so when it’s ordered from the company ( traxxas) is the year of that rc car, that’s important as some hobby shops can have an old model sitting on the shelf for months sometimes years, this rc has the most current upgrades from what I’ve seen from the xmaxx line sold to date. As for traxxas gears the pinion are not pressed metal like traxxas spur gears and what I’ve seen the spur gears are not perfectly round and do create an issue as you can hear in this rc mesh is good for half the gear and tight on the other half, but even the aftermarket steel gear I’ve ordered have had the same issues but they recommend to remove pin and manually adjust mesh but traxxas doesn’t recommend this ? I will be fixing this in the next video showing how to adjust using the pins either way will work but a bad crash the pin system is better, as I’ve got the max6 and a motor temp sensor installed and turned on in the max6 to protect the motor @ 150 degrees or around there I can’t remember off hand I know it’s not the 105 degrees and not the 202 degrees I picked the middle setting. I know the mesh is not causing heat issues as this normally causes the pinion to loosen easily so far that all I know lmao thanks for the comment it was a lot to read but I enjoyed your take on the xmaxx 👍

Metal low center of gravity chassis work ok if not running or landing on rocks high center of gravity chassis plastic like the xmaxx work better in that type of areas 👍

@@purewaterperfectcrap hard to say it’s to tight as they come noisy ! I’d have to leave the screws loose to get the noise decent but the best is to shim the covers either with thin paper under the bearings or thin metal strips ! That let’s me know there a clearance issue from factory in the center diff to idler gear and it needs to be solved as traxxas never had that issue years ago as I’ll be doing a full rebuild on an old xmaxx soon one of the OG xmaxx’s 👍

@@earlmoorhead5555 The casting on that part may be worn from the Traxxas plant, who knows. I didn't have to back out the screws on the cover much, maybe a full turn on each screw, the cover is still tight and the noise went away for mine.

@purewaterperfectcrap all three of mine had this noise my brand new standard xmaxx and the two ultimate xmaxx’s all had the same issue as I did a video showing the issue! The Cush drive cover pushing down on the idler gear to center diff needs to be shimmed up under the bearing seems the molding on the lower chassis is off, you can loosen the Cush drive cover on the bench and run it and notice the noise goes away, traxxas says the cover to tight but you would have to run the cover soo loose it’s better to shim up on the Cush drive bearing and tighten the cover I used thick paper under the bearing on the Cushdrive shaft to shim it up

lol it’s not so they can stay in business but they do have a agreement to stick to what they do best , Losi may make 5th scales but they’re race based and arrma pure bashing , now they’re more scale race products . Even though traxxas is separate they have to respect thier niche also and not be competitive in that way . I agree finally about HCG being beneficial sometimes, we’re having flooding and my maxx definitely performed excellent better than Arrmas , and I’m able to setup like a race truggy still . Earl that spur sounds funny , first thing my son said about the maxx was sounds quiet compared to other rcs . Traxxas good at being quiet but not this guy 😂😂😂

@@RcPlayer-tt2vw thanks for clearing that up, I feel like all my arrma cars are quite loud out of the box and still a bit loud even after I shim them but that doesn’t bug me anymore, my upgraded mod1 6s traxxas fiesta is dam quiet as far as the gears go the only noise you hear is the motor and it throws me off because I’m so used to custom off road limitless now

@fiercetatsu6782 yes every xmaxx I’ve bought have all sounded different as the spur gears are casted there not fully round and will sound differently but if you remove the motor pins you can adjust the noise out of it 👍

I actually got bored when I was a young with the slash once brushless , it just didn’t feel like a vehicle anymore and just a flying skidding hunk of plastic but I guess it’s a good thing when all the power you can use and than some is affordable, but we coming from the great sounding performance of combustion engines meeting the performance or set up of that said vehicle 🚗

Yep the casting on the spur gear sucks as I’m using the factory pin alignment and it has a tight spot 💯😮

I recall the stock spur being a common point of failure on the XMAXX 8S
