1. KO’ed Pokemon of desired nature in slot 1 2. Klefki lvl 1 with Recycle only in slot 2 3. Ditto transforms into Klefki knowing only Recycle 4. Switch into Kadabra holding Leppa berry a. Use Trick first b. Then Skill Swap Synchronize onto the Ditto c. Ditto now has Recycle and Leppa berry and the ability Synchronize 5. Switch to Smeargle a. Use Skill Swap to get Synchronize onto Smeargle b. False Swipe Ditto c. Use Adrenaline Orb to cause SOS battle to start d. Recover for health as needed e. Poison Attacking move to KO SOS Dittos. Will not accidently kill the set-up ditto because of steel type f. This will cause you to use Leppa Berry, but they are easy to grow. A modified set can be used to shiny hunt for Pokemon with the desired nature. Start with Kadabra and Skill Swap. Then use Skill Swap with Smeargle.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but I can into a problem with this method where the ditto knows more than recycle. Sometimes the leppa berry will end up being used for the wrong move, the ditto will run out of PP for recycle, exhaust all its other PP, then struggle to death. I had this happen to me twice at a chain of about 35 ish before i realized the problem. So yeah, its best to just have the main ditto transforming into a pokemon that ONLY knows recycle or there is a chance it could run out of PP.

That doesn't make any sense because if it goes 0 PP recycle is uses leppa and if it goes 0 PP payday and uses leppa its impossible to already be at 0 recycle

Im not really sure how it ran out of pp when it had more than 1 move but i know for sure it ended up struggling a few times when it knew more than recycle. A couple other videos i have seen have mentioned this but i still cant figure out why.

if it goes down to 1 recycle and then only does False swipe it uses leppa for false swipe, if it THEN false swipes to 0 PP it has 0PP False swipe and 1PP Recycle... Recycles, 5PP False swipe, 0 PP Recycle no leppa berry i dont know, maybe Change the Order of the moves, so leppa restores Recycle first if BOTH moves are at 0 at the same time? i cant really find if leppa restores move from top to bottom if 2 moves are 0... can someone confirm?

I'm trying to refine this method a bit because while the building of the chain is actually really easy, I don't really understand a good way to finish the chain. Imposter Dittos aren't especially common from my personal experience, and beyond the Recycler, Hold Back/False Swiper, Mementoer, and Tricker/Switcherooer, it's not really obvious what to do about killing the Lead Ditto so you can actually trying catching Designated Chain Ditto #X. You can't keep the Memento user in, and I've been using Kadabra to Trick and Kill the lead Ditto, but the chained Dittos will still summon back-up if you take too long (i.e. immediately)

Jake Cerra When you're ready to finally catch your Ditto, send in your recycle pokemon so the ditto can transform into it (so there should be 2 dittos transformed into your recycle user) then send your switcheroo/trick user, grab the Leppa berry back from the original ditto, the following turn put it on the ditto you want to catch. I recommend carrying thunder wave on your kadabra as I believe a paralyzed or status inflicted pokemon will not call for an ally. Kill the original Ditto so the one you want to catch remains. It shouldn't be able to call for allies, it has recycle, and it has the Leppa berry. Switch to your false swipe pokemon and get ditto to 1hp. The ditto should be stuck in the recycle loop giving you as much time as you need to catch it without it calling any allies.

Tinkerer Melon That wouldn't work, Momento kills the Ditto allowing you to continuously afk button mash. I believe teleport fails in a double battle or allies meaning it would just fail and nothing would happen. I could be wrong though.

the move relearner can "relearn" moves that are farther up. you dont need to get it to level 48, you can relearn memento from the start

If you want the shiny Ditto, there's a variant on this that involves using self-destruct instead of memento, courtesy of PT8 on reddit. Then if a shiny pops up, you can switch into a pokemon with Damp and then you can catch the Shiny. "Have your Transform fodder Smeargle have Recycle and Reflect Type. Give the transformed Ditto Leppa as usual. As your false swiper, use Foresight/False swipe Decidueye, and make sure the Ditto copies its type before false swiping it. Then bring in Drifloon with only Explosion. Now, the original Ditto should remain a Ghost, and the new dittos will explode harming no other pokemon. If a Shiny Imposter pops up, switch to a Damp Poliwag, and it can't suicide anymore. The Shiny Squirturtle Gamer This is specifically for catching *exactly* those Dittos with Imposter. The Dittos will transform into your Ghost Pokemon that only knows Explosion or Self-Destruct, (Imposter Dittos will transform into your Ghost Pokemon immediately when they show up at the end of the turn)and when you see one you want to catch, you switch to a Pokemon with the Damp ability. The Damp Ability prevents those two moves from working (it'll say "Ditto used Explosion. - But it failed!" and nothing will happen, the Ditto won't faint) and you can take as many turns as you need to catch it.

Adam Blair Not bloody likely. Leppa Berry, as a hold item, will restore the PP of the first move to reach 0PP. Even if the Ditto managed to get down to 1/1 pp in those moves: -It uses Reflect type, Leppa pops on Reflect Type. It then uses Recycle at some point, gets the leppa Berry back, and it immediately pops on Recycle. Both moves are now at near full PP. -It uses Recycle first, Leppa pops on Recycle, no issue. The only way I can see it *maybe* failing is is triggering the first case and then somehow using all 15 pp of reflect Type before it gets a Leppa back from Recycle. Of course, all this is moot if you can find a setup that doesn't need another move.

thank you! i got my first shiny from this. also, i use a team of four smeargle. 1 with pay day and recycle, 1 with switcheroo, 1 from an older video with false swipe, recycle, recover, and sheer cold, and last 1 with memento. idk why i just like it with four smeargle, though it made it harder/longer to assemble everyone. also i got the shiny ditto in a diveball which looks neat, though i was trying for the lure ball

Verlisify, I just wanted to tell you that you should bring a pokemon that has Clear Body as an ability as well! This is mostly because "What If You Encounter That Shiny Imposter DItto?" Since ditto will transform into muk that knows memento, you should switch into a pokemon like metagross to prevent the pokemon from killing itself with memento. Have looked around and memento vs clear body is the same as explosion/selfdestruct vs damp ability- Just something I noticed while dealing with the infuriating farm for the most desired Ditto and wanted to share this with you who showed me the method. Happy holidays, and you'll be soon as good as adrive when it comes to streams! :)

In past games it could work while fainted, but it's been confirmed that in sun and moon the synchronizer has to be alive for it to work. To make it easier when looking for encounters you can have your Abra hold a smoke ball so you're guaranteed to be able to run away.

Great guide! Though I have to point out, Smeargle knowing two moves creates the opportunity for its Leppa Berry going to Pay Day at the wrong time and leaving it out of recycles. Found this out the hard way when my caller struggled itself to death after chaining 17.

you could turn off attack animations and speed up your text in the options menu. that would reduce some of the time spent waiting for the pokemon to do their attacks, the game doesn't have to load the transform animation, or the other attack animations.

Hyper training does not change IVs (For breeding etc) it only acts changes the IVs to 31 when it comes to stats.

ok, im still trying to understand this. So after 40 SOS then you are GUARANTEED a 4IV ditto, i got that part but what im still trying to comprehend is what do you mean that the "other 2 are random". What other 2?

samury101 after a chain of 40, the Pokemon is guaranteed to have four perfect IVs while the other two are random. For example, if you find a wild ditto with perfect IVs in defense, attack, speed and HP, then the special attack and special defense IVs would be randomized. If you are very very lucky you could get a 5 or 6 IV ditto

@Verlisify Hi man, I don't think you can catch 6IV Ditto in SOS. I tried 60~70 chains few times and 4IV is the highest I get. Also checked serebii today and it says SOS perfect IV cap is 4... Feels like I wasted so much time xD

Nikolai it's hard but not impossible. You get 4IVs guaranteed but you have to roll 2 31's for the other two IVs which is a 1/1024 chance

I have an idea about this method when Pokémon bank comes out. Here it is 1. Get an Abra from oras that has synchronize 2. Make sure that it has the desired nature you want 3. Go to the battle resort and teach the Abra the move recycle at the move tutor 4. Transfer to sun and moon I just used Abra with recycle instead of smeargle with recycle to get your desired nature with synchronize You can get a 4 iv ditto with the right nature by using this. I hope this helps!

There's still space for optimisation once Pokébank is available for Sun & Moon. The Gardevoir line gets both Synchronize and Memento, so you can also hunt for 4-6IV Dittos with the desired nature with Gardevoir.

so right now they don't always appear. can we use a area trap or some ability like it to get even more dittos in a row? it will be 200% encounter rate so that will help with shiny hunting as well right?

In other words, another easy way to breed for IVs. Again, hackers have no excuse this generation, if it's this easy to get a Max IV Ditto to breed with, then it cuts time in half. Also bare in mind, this is just to get the Ditto, once you donate an hour of time to get it then you won't have to again unless you want to, and anything you breed with will have IVs from then on (maybe not Max right away but still cuts on time). I like how this is now possible, so kudos to this generation. I know it won't rid the world of hackers but at least those playing legit have something to give them a leg up.

Wait I dont understand... I know another version of this to catch 4IV Dittos. My Version is pretty the same (waiting until the 31th encounter) but I use a buff Pkm and one that makes damage instead of the muk and the adrenaline Orbs (your method is better). But how do I get the 6IV exactly? Is it the same method but the chance to get it is lower (if yes please tell the per centage)?

B- Bum Essentially. After a chain of 40, you are guaranteed a 4 iv ditto. Therefore chances of getting a 5 iv is 1/31 while a 6 iv is (1/31)^2. This is much higher than flat out (1/31)^6. In fact, this is faster than the x and y friend safari where Pokémon were guaranteed 2 prefect ivs.

I actually saw your explanation of the ditto farming in a later video, meaning the one where you explain the new shiny method that isn't game breaking, and worked out all of this on my own. This isn't to brag to you or anything, but more or less that I've learned a lot from your past videos and it took quite a bit of prep and research (didn't do the exp maxing thing though), but I did this method with a Munchlax that knew recycle, switcheroo persian, alolan grimer, and tapu koko with false swipe (cause why not? I can change it if I want to use it for comp later)

Question if I get a random ditto and give it a bottle cap maxing its iv's when i breed it will it pass down those iv's? or it will only pass down the iv's that it had originally.

What's the safest method of catching the final product ditto? I chained to 40, sent klefki out for 41st, ko'd the leppa holder ditto, false swiped the imposter klefki, and then threw ultra balls at the imposter klefki. Trouble is, the SOS dittos kept coming, and while I was suppressing them, the ditto I wanted struggled to death and the battle ended. Perhaps I should pack a 2nd switcheroo pokemon for the ditto I want to catch?

Would going over 50+ chains still guarantee me 31 IV stats? Already acquired that IV judge app in-game. It says a guaranteed 31 IVs should have a statement of "Best", right?

so if I skip all of this, just have a chain over 30 of SOS dittos, the 31st will be 4 perfect IV? does this also work for any other chained SOS pokemon?

Verlisify, since I already catch a 4 IV (almost 5 IV) Ditto using your guide and I already decided to release my 6 IV Genned/Hacked Ditto that my friend gave to me and also I release all the Pokemons that comes from that Hacked Ditto for breeding, do you think I am save now from battling or trading online? I mean I won't be banned because I already release all genned/hacked pokemons?

you can also use heart scales, for some reason u can have a pokemon learn any move by level up, even if its not the right level

How long do you have to chain before 6IV Dittos start appearing? I chained for about an hour a few times and only got 4s and one 5.

So if you see a shiny ditto appear with its HA it will instantly transform into a memento muk that can't be captured because 2 dittos are facing you? Is there any way around that that is my biggest fear.

@Verisfy There is also another trick I use I switch into a Magnezone with thunderwave once I wanna catch a ditto and hit it with false swipe. When a pokemon is suffering a status effect it can not call for help anymore, makes it easier if you want it in a special ball or something like that

Ay Verlisify, can you do a battle tree guide? I don't have a comp team as it is, but I seem to be having some issues getting past even the fourth person. Not too sure what you can do a guide on for it, but just a thought that newer players might enjoy trying to get some BP's and such

When I tried this twice 20 ditto the first time and 42 the second time,I got close to no ivs.the blue being small means it's ivs are low right?

quick tip: i think you still have to lvl up grimer to a high enough level so that it wont learn a new move half way through the chain. I used move relearner to teach memento to my lvl 26 grimer, and deleted all other moves. it lvled up to 29 and learned knock off when my chain was still at 12 only :((( (can i get my heart scale back pl0x?)

It wasn't mentioned in the video, but if you do this with litwick, you won't be able to use payday due to it being a normal move and litwick being a ghost type. It will have no effect on you. So I'd really recommend sticking with the Muk.

But I thought the max you can get from SOS was 4 max IVs, which was at 40 turns? How many turns is it until you get a 6-max-IV Ditto?

Wouldn't this work better on the Dittos that appear below Sophocles' trial? The first ditto can transform into something with Splash and Celebrate for tons of PP and then you switch to your memento Muk etc. Also more cost effective to spam Oran or sitrus berries (that you can dupe a ton of for free) instead of adrenaline orbs.
