Not all older cats are mean, cat are just like people they have different Personalities. Older cats Deserve to be Adopted too ! It really Depends on Socialization and how they have been treated.

Yes! It’s all different personalities and background. A lot of older cats in shelters may take some time to blend into your family because they have had a hard life, but they still want love & to love you in return.

Cats have helped me and my daughter tremendously as emotional support pets for anxiety, and that’s not even the reason we got a cat. But my cat senses it and will come love on us and lay on us the entire time during an anxiety attack and distracts our minds long enough to get past it and I’m so grateful for him. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Won’t last in the country. There are too many predators where they live. Ferrils are feral in cities. They have lots of hiding spots. You are wishing death on feral cats and not thinking? Why do you think there are no actual small house cats feral in the forests of the USA? Because we have bobcats and bobcats eat them for breakfast.

Please do not let her go outside birds of prey or other animals will kill her. indoor cats are healthier and live longer. Please make sure she has a litter box, I do not recommend using newspaper once wet it's hard to clean up. She is too young right now to catch mice please keep her in your living area until she older, she will also probably bring you the dead mice as a present after she kills them. Get her a playmate she will do better. kittens will scratch they just don't know any better it improves when they get older. my cats are the biggest love bugs and cuddle all the time. Please make sure to spay/neuter your animals it prevents overpopulation and makes healthier animals and prevents cancer. I have owned cats my entire life and will be more than happy to help you navigate the newness of cat ownership.

I would get a litterbox for inside - especially since you'll probably want her indoors during the winter and dogs are VERY attracted to eating cat poo because it's high in protein. And if they don't learn when they're young, they won't use the litterbox when they're older. Since you have known issues with predators, I would train her to come back inside at night on a regular basis for Callie's sake. Also, some cats don't really like being outdoor cats so don't be offended if she doesn't want to be an outdoor cat. Unless cats are raised outside by their parents it can be hard for them to learn how to be an outdoor cat and survive more than a few days or weeks because they don't have that feral instinct to survive. As far as the scratching, scratch posts and regular nail trimming can help.

@crustyrash

So that's why they eat the cat poop. I solved it with a top entry box. I didn't realize that some cats don't really like being outdoors. SCRATCHING: I agree about the posts. They come in all sizes and shapes such as upright, loungers, etc. Try out different ones and have a bunch available.. I wouldn't be surprised if Philip made his own out of cardboard. Cat tape has been a lifesaver--it comes in rolls or wide-ish sheets and is double-sided sticky. They don't like the feel of sticky--at least for my girl she quickly learned not to scratch the sofa.

With your predators that get the chickens you will likely end up losing the cat if you put it outside. You can train it to be okay outside during the day with yall out there but to always co.e back inside for food and treats and such. If you keep inside you can get rubber tips that cover theor claws so furniture gets protec5

My kitty turns 1 tomorrow! Highly recommend Jackson Galaxy and The Kitten Lady’s RU-vid channel. WATCH THE KITTEN PROOFING VIDEOS PLEASE!! That blanket is not safe. Also with 3 daughters hair ties is another huge risk. Vertical scratchers and window perches are necessity for cats. Jackson talks about this in his “Catification” videos. Too many cat owners think their cat has behaviour issues when really the owner hasn’t given their cat the appropriate toys/tools to be happy. She WILL claw your furniture so don’t ever expect she won’t. You just gotta love her more than your stuff.

A couple suggestions for little kitty: - Don’t give her a yarn ball (she could get tangled in it). Use little feather toys or mouse stuffies. It will help her hunting skills. - As she grows give her lots of attention so she stays comfortable with humans (even if she is outside). - Since she will be doing her business outside, put some of the soil she can use in her litter box. Help her associate that with going potty outdoors. - Wait till after she is spayed to let her live outside fully. Bring her outside with you during chores to adjust to the outside life. - it is very recommended to spay unless you wouldnt mind a cat colony living on your farm. - A break away collar with a bell could help you keep track of her - Getting her to recognize the sound of a food bag can help her come to you - flea shots and all that health stuff is highly recommended as well to keep her healthy and strong.

For all things 'cat', check out Jackson Galaxy (he's kind of like the Nanny, but for cats), he's got a lot of insight and wisdom into cats and what makes them tick! Also, be so very careful not to give kitty yarn or other string-like objects (thread, dental floss, tinsel, elastic bands, etc.) as these can be ingested and become life threatening.

Yes! My aunt had a cat that would eat hair ties and they didn’t know it until she stopped eating and drinking water and had to be rushed to the emergency vert and they did X-rays that showed she had a “mass” in her stomach. They paid to have them go in and remove it... come to find out it was a ball of hair ties that had knotted together over the years because cats’ digestive systems can’t break down hair ties. 🤦🏻‍♀️ And I have a child hood friend who had a dog that did the same thing with UNDERWEAR. had to have emergency surgery and they thought they were removing a tumor that turned out to be a ball of matted/congealed together underwear... Moral of the stories? Animals are freaking weird and self destructive and picking up after yourself as if your infant can climb on counters and get in hampers could save your pet’s life!

She needs to be totally indoors. Find another solution for the mice. The mice are so full of disease you would be giving her those and she would not live long. I love cats!! Yay!! A couple tips: 1. play with her right before she eats to promote hunting for her prey. Yarn and string is dangerous because cats can/will swallow it and that’s a major surgery (been there 😩)! 2. Feed her before bed so she won’t wake you up for food. 3. Don’t ever “play” with her using your hands/feet etc. she’ll always look at them as prey and will scratch you if you do.4. Cats that live outside have an avg lifespan of 6-7 years and indoor avg is 14-17.

I've had cats all my life, we live in the country, and our cats are indoor /outdoor. Routine is actually really important, our cats, Chicken Little and Nala, can go out as much as they want, however they do each have a litterbox indoors. They each have their own food bowls and every night their beds get put up on a high surface with a spray of catnip we also have a cat CD with music that really does put them to sleep. Cats like to sleep higher up, they don't really like being on the floor. God so please do not give them milk as lactose is not good for them there is a special kitten milk but your kitten is old enough to be eating solid food. We do keep them inside at night-time because they can easily get infections from fighting with foxes are other cats out at night. Handle your kitten as much as possible and they will grow to love the attention! ❤️ Lots of love from Ireland!

There are also so many feral cats who would love to be barn cats. Places are overrun with them but the pounds just put them down so there are probably places willing to relocate two ferals (two neutered/spayed ferals) who would be great at catching rodents, etc and live in the warm safe barn at night. Of course, they need to be fed like regular pets --- a well-fed feral has more energy to hunt. They do it for amusement and not always food. So if new kitten becomes a nice indoor cat, the option of saving two feral cats is out there. It would save their lives.

I love the new addition to the family! To prevent scratches, I highly recommend using a set of nail clipper for small animals to trim Brownie's front and back claws every 2-3 weeks while she is a kitten. Starting now will make trimming her nails so much easier when she is fully grown. I also recommend microchipping her. If she isn't spayed yet, you can ask for her to be microchipped at the same time.

Cats are lactose intolerant so not the best to give milk unless you water it down. She would be best brought inside at night because of preditors. So you will definitely want a litter box for inside. If you don't want her catching birds get a collar with a bell, which will also help you find her. She will find places to hide especially because of the kids and will want to chill.

I grew up on a farm, and have known and loved a lot of cats in my 32 years. Most of them were indoor / outdoor cats (basically adventurous, sporty pets)Some of them were straight up outdoor cats who lived in the barn. And now as an adult I'm on my second inside-only apartment cat. All of those are valid options, depending on your lifestyle A few things 1) Now that she has been in your house, cuddling on your chest etc., the ship has totally sailed on her being 100% outside. It would be unkind / unrealistic to expect otherwise, because she getting used to high amounts of human contact. Outside cat means outside from day one (in a safe place like an insulated, heated barn or garage). 2 She will always need a litterbox in the house. 3. Cats can love sleeping on the couch, and still be awesome mousers. Just get her dewormed regularly. 4. Totally normal for a new kitten to hide like that. You're not bad parents. Congrats she is a cutie, and eventually you'll lose just as much sleep over her as all your other babies. Cats are sneaky like that.

Get Brownie a friend and Phillip build them a cat stand. they love to be in high places plus a litter box is a must AND they need to be inside til they're used to your place for 2 weeks. They will be prey outside if they can't get away when they're small. fox, coyotes, crows different animals will go after them as they do chickens when they're new and unfamiliar to they're surroundings. It'll be fine once they're older. they love boxes too. they like their own privacy sometimes too. I love that you found Brownie and she does need a friend 😊 I love all of you so much

My hubby was never a cat lover, we now have they are old now ,my hubby loves them , they are such good pets , id keep a litter tray inside , they are so good at using them. If ever you loose her in the house always check the last thing you did, we'd find ours in the cupboard when we'd put away shopping ,and I once found my kitten in the fridge, id just made a coffee and got milk from the fridge, unknown to me the kitten had sneaked in , i went looking opened the fridge door and they he was sitting on the shelve looking very cute. Yous will have heaps of fun with brownie .

Cassidy is getting so big! I can’t even believe it! Also- the kitten may not catch mice for a few months. You will want a litter box because she will use it rather than make her self so uncomfortable she goes inside. Our kitty who is almost 1 does not love her box but will never go anywhere else unless we let her outside.. which she prefers as I said! Just a little trick. Cats are very hygienic animals and like to stay clean. I can’t believe I’ve been watching you guys for 4 years!

Our senior female cat, Oreo Cookie insists on having her own human Dollar general hairbrush, and leg roller massager stick. She loves getting her ears cleaned with Q-tips, or wet wipies wrapped on index finger, and gently rubbed on the inside of her ears. She loves fuzzy bullrush stick toy and any strings. She knows different commands like: come, stay, house, all done, go ahead, ears clean, shampoo wipes, snackies, water, ciao ciao, nap time, and night night for evening sleep time. She's gotten her schedule so it works with mommy me is doing. So blessed she's learned these tricks, and commands from me when we got her at 5wks old. Prayers for cat success🙏🙏🙏🐱👨‍👩‍👧‍👧👫🤰👶🇺🇸🇯🇵🌏🗻🗾

Word of advice don’t use newspaper in their litter box because then they’re going to P on every piece of paper that’s what my cat did and continued to do for the entire 18 1/2 years of her life!

Do not have her sleep outside! I think she should sleep with Chloe… she misses her mother because she is so small. I worry too about wild life that could make her a meal. She needs to be more than an outside cat… with a proper kitty box and food bowls.

@@PhilandAlex yea I didn’t either until it happened then even random paper would get marked! Half my childhood art work got ruined 😫😫😫 so I figured I would say something so that way it won’t happen and end up being “one more reason that you guys don’t totally like cats” lol

Yes if your cat will spend any time inside it must have a litter box! The smell of cat urine in a wet flower bed, near your home is so bad you will not want to open your windows! That is the only reason we decided to keep our mouser inside the house only!

I have a Brownie and a Whitey (sisters) with same colouring as yours. I read loads about taking care of cats before I collected them. I am now inundated with cat trees, cardboard boxes, 3 litter boxes with natural litter, water bowls and food bowls mostly up high. Mine are now 11 years old. Love them dearly. I’ve always had dogs but being out of the house working for 13 hours was not right to have a puppy. I pray I can give a dog a good home when I retire but I would never want to upset my cats.

I would like to add that a litter box is a must, but it must be kept clean. Very important. My cats have the clumping kind of kitty litter, and it’s easy to scoop out waste into a freezer ziplock bag to prevent odor. Dispose of it when it fills up. Add kitty litter when necessary. Every so often take it outside, empty the contents into a black garbage bag and tie it up to go out in the garbage. Wash out the litter pan every so often. And put the box in a quiet place but where the kitty knows where it is and Cassidy and Chloe can’t access it. Also, two kitties are more fun than one! Two litter boxes may be needed. We always got a male and a female and had them fixed at the appropriate age, but the entertainment value watching them play together is priceless. You will laugh so much at their antics. So many good memories as well. Wet and dry food and plenty of fresh water. Vet recommended vaccines, toys that the kitty won’t choke on and handle the fur baby gently. As previously mentioned, cats don’t behave as dogs and need their quiet time in a safe place. Don’t overstimulate them with your hand with play or they may scratch or bite, so have a soft toy to put in their mouth to train them what to play with. Respect the cat for its unique personality and quirks and you’ll be richly rewarded with love and purrs. Lifelong lover, observer, and delighted owner of felines

My kitten used a little box and would catch small lizards but she grew fast and now spends lots of time outdoors (stays in at night) and doesn't use her litter box anymore. She is great for catching mice and birds too and likes bringing them in as gifts. My kitten got out too but she didn't go too far.

Oh my goodness! This happened to Mark and I when we got our little girl Akira, she hid under our bookcase and I thought we'd lost her, I was devastated. Then she came out hours later like "hey, can you feed me please" haha Mark was also very anti cats, from night 1 she became daddy's little princess, always at his side. So glad Brownie was found and she looks like an amazing addition to your beautiful family. 🤎

Practice recall training with her, we started ours at 8 weeks. Start by saying ‘Brownie come here’ then give a treat. Do it round the house/different floors and get her to come to you. Once she’s outside you can add a whistle when doing the recall so then she will come running to you when she hears just a whistle. My cats will be 500m away and come running when they hear me whistle. Tractive trackers are another option when she’s outside so she doesn’t get lost xxx

My kittens favorite toy and even loves it 8 yrs later is a cheap hard plastic kids bracelet from the dollar store (they come in a pk of several for birthday party favors) and then tie satin ribbon to it. Easy to hang onto for the girls and the kitten will love attacking the ribbon when they wave it around 😊

I’ve had many cats over the years. If you plan on having the kids play with the Brownie, so she does scratch badly and ruin furniture, learn to clip her nails from a young age, get her used to having her paws handled, and you going through her fur to look for ticks. The more you do this at a young age, the easier it will be when she is grown up. Most cats don’t like having these things done only because it was not introduced early in life. I don’t want to overload you with advice, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

She's beautiful ❤️ Brownie also needs a litter box. I like the slide litter, because it doesn't stick to the bottom of the litter box. It clumps the pee & the poop, which needs to be scooped daily or every other day. She's to young to be outside!! She would be a snack for a predator!! It would probably be best, to keep her in one of the smaller rooms, with her litter box, bed, food and water. The whole house & the kids might be overwhelming for a baby kitty at first. My cats started out inside only. As they got older or if I adopted a new cat, they started out inside. After about a month, I took them around the house carrying them. Then walking with them, while they are on the ground. I wouldn't let them stay out all night, because of all the predators. Eventually she will be an in & out cat, & catch mice, rats, & moles. Each of my cat's preferred to use the bathroom outside, but that was when they were fully grown. Best wishes 🌿

Cats want to be inside with you where it’s warm & safe. Access to the outside during the day, but in the house with you @ night. We currently have 6(!) cats on our 4.5 acres, which is honestly too many cats, but we love each one so much! 🐈

I love the little bed you guys made for Brownie! I actually make my own beds/scratching mats by using cardboard, yarn, and fabric. And yes, cats are very notorious for hiding in the craziest places. 😂 One of my cats had accidentally gotten herself stuck down in the crawl space after a repair man used it. There were times where I would panic because I absolutely could not find my cats. I'd run around the house, and outside frantically trying to find my fur babies thinking the worst case scenario. When in reality, they were just hiding behind a curtain. 🤦‍♀️

Cats are amazing animals! We always had cats and kittens when I was growing up. My dad had developed dementia and last year fell and broke his pelvis. Eventually this led to pneumonia and we brought him home to take care of him. His yellow kitty was afraid of other people but when dad was dying and in a hospital bed, that kitty would hardly leave his bed! We were so surprised because the cat was always afraid of new situations and especially afraid of strangers. When strangers came over the cat usually went under the bed to hide. But when strangers came over when dad was dying the kitty just stayed in that bed right next to him.

So happy she's safe and sound! One tip as she grows older - cats tend to prefer their food and water bowls to be separate from each other, it goes back to their roots in the wild I believe, when they would take their food away from their water source. My cat wouldn't drink inside for so long until I read this tip. Moved her water bowl and bingo! Drank from it from that day on! Good luck and welcome to the cat lovers club 😻💖
