It took years, but at last AtGames got it right! The 2018 model looks and sounds great, and with SD card support and roughly 97% of the Genesis library at your disposal, it's money well spent!

This version of the Genesis Flashback is actually pretty good The interface is better to use. the pause menu is also much better. the games run fine real Sega games run fine controllers work good and it just looks and feels better .

They should change their name to BADatGames.

It worked well, was better emulation than the 2017 model. GAME folder on the SD with bin files (no spaces) worked fine for all ROMS I have tried. You need to perhaps give them some slack on this one... but usually, head for the hills if it says AtGames.

Has to be an open or extended contract. Had they released this without authorization to do so, Sega would sue their ass into the ground.

This is probably why the Genesis Classic got delayed. They still had a contract with these suckers

UPDATE!! You can run ROMS on an SD card with the correct file format, as long as the latest firmware update is installed, and people have already created custom firmware that opens up all file extensions and allows for SMS SGG and Sega cd games to be loaded via SD slot.

Saw this at my local Fry's last week. Threw me off with the Sega Genesis logo looking all official. Then I saw the engrave atgames and quickly walked away. Edit: in other news, my MegaPi just shipped!!! Woot

SEGA can't just "kick them to the kerb" without legal ramifications. SEGA can only wait for the current contract to run down and then not renew it - the sooner the better.

I've been looking around for info on this and it appears as if they may have finally gotten it right. People examining it say it now runs on RetroArch, not their older janky software. Which also seems to have fixed the speed/sound issues. I have yet to see any gameplay of it to check for accuracy myself though.

Target appears to be selling them online. To find the version with the SD card slot, search SEGA in the search bar by "newest". It is one of the first things to pop up. It's $80 like the one from last year, and people on the Atari forums say that the sound issues have finally been fixed.

I bought their 2017 flashback hd version new for $50’ish several months ago, and it’s absolutely fine. Plays my Genesis cartridges, and the packed in emulated games work well. Yeah there are crappy added titles too, but they’re easily ignored. Until Sega releases their product next year the AT genesis is a better alternative than an old genesis off Craigslist that is half broken lol.

The AT in ATGames = Always Terrible.

I can verify I have seen the new model in the wild at the local Gamestop. Curious to see how this one runs LOL. P.S. Update I broke down and decided to get this thing out of sheer curiosity and I have to say it has been improved. Funny possible end of Sega and ATGames and they finally get it right.

I got this version months ago. Its actually not that bad. The worst problem ive had is slowdown. The pitch and tone of audio are spot on now, but the overall quality isnt the best. Still, for what it is, i was happy with it. Not going to lie though, when the analogue mega sg comes out im just going to get that for my carts, but for now im happy.

It looks like they updated the Sega Flashback HD with a slightly different design and game list. Supposedly the emulation is better this time around and you can load roms from an SD card without hacking or modding

What up homie, appreciate u and ur channel big time, if its quick to explain jw how i would add systems to a downloaded image... like i had dld a previous image, copied the hacked genesis folder for example in the roms section, or like superfamicom or anyother system,w all the box art and snaps and everything, and want to add that to another image that dosnt have the hacked/sfc or whatever, system folder. How do i update emulationstation on the pie to recognize that new folder/system with all the box art and snaps and everything like all the other loaded systems on the current image

My guess is that this is a prototype of the ATGames Genesis that was originally planned, but will not be coming to market. It probably just fell into someones lap and they documented it.

I just got one at a game shop for $30 and it’s actually pretty sweet I like it ..

The flashback (2019) isnt that bad. Its compatible with all games (really dude) and it fixed the audio.

Here is what's different from the 2017 flashback to the 2018 they were developing; Games All Genesis games from the 2017 HD model are included and 5 additional games were added (Champions World Class Soccer, Joe & Mac, Judge Dredd, Side Pocket and Darwin 4081). All Master System games are the same as 2017 HD model. All game gear games are the same as 2017 HD model. Bonus games added: Bottle Taps Race, Chess and Warehouse Keeper. Removed: Adventure in the park, Bubbles Master, Cross the road, Curling 2010, Jack’s Pea, Jewel Magic and Pluming Contest Wall breaking. System Cosmetic volume slider added for decoration. The Genesis/Mega Drive logo was moved to middle of console and the AtGames logo is engraved on the front right corner of the console (without color added so it’s less obvious). It also includes an SD slot (user manual indicates for firmware updates and saving games). Also has a Micro-USB adaptor jack. Genesis Plus GX emulator is used. Controllers No screw to remove on battery covers. Removed rewind and menu buttons from player 2 controller. All honestly though it's not too bad of a clone console, and the Sonic games all seem to play fine too compared to last year's model.

I have this model and honestly it's really good! The thing has the real look of a 1992-93 VA7 model 1 Genesis system, whereas the official Sega branded mini went with the 1989 look for their unit. But this one has an SD card slot which can load the entire Genesis library on as well as Master System and Game Gear too! Also runs Sega CD to a point. Its really good for the price and to have an HD Genesis that will work on a newer tv easier this is an option. Also the cartridge slot once firmware was updated works just fine with all games I have. The sound is also good too once updated out of the box.

Well, here we are 8 months later and these are available at Walmart for a decent price. I got one. The SD card makes all the difference. Firmware updates and the ability to add game ROMs. Nintendo and Sega made stuff is more expensive and usually lacks the freedom that these SD enabled sets have. The mini sets seem to be locked by the companies that make them. In the case of the SNES mini, at least, you can’t play your old cart collection. You’re stuck with whatever games Nintendo decided to put in there. Sega is pretty much the same. Did the firmware update on my AtGames and added some game ROMs. So far I like it.

I mean say what you will about ATgames products but they make for a nice little gift for children who are just getting into games. My nephew loves this thing. He's only 8 mind you, so he doesn't realize the issues compared to original genesis versions. But it's getting him interested in the games from my childhood which is a plus in my opinion

Honestly, I dont see the point of getting upset with this company. They make cheap products for impulse buyers. Yeah, they needed to get their game together with the Genesis, but we have the hyperkin and mega sg, as well as other options coming out. It's not really worth the effort at this point.

They have products people want. Their quality is iffy as stated. Not horrible.

Maybe this was a version 2 of the Sega Genesis Flashback HD with upgrades?Maybe it could have been a prototype of brand new Sega Genesis Flashback 2 that made it into the wild after Sega give them the axe on the Mega Drive Mini?Man im going to be pissed if Sega still let's them use any of their products after what happened before!

Black Friday happens this month and Shatgames still doesn't have everything they're releasing this year listed on their website.

The HD Sega's were pretty good. You can lose your cartridge battery save data on some carts with the model I have. That's my gripe. The games on the console play well and most carts work.

I've seen this at a local Target, I saw it on the shelf and I thought, wait that's the older flashback AssGames console, then I figured must be on clearance, Nope! Then upon closer look I remember seeing, Hey, wheres the giant AssGames logo on the front? There was none... it must have been this same console... I'm curious now, maybe I'll swing my that Target today and send you a pic. Thanks MLP!

Honestly!. There's a gaming community Who truly love gaming the way you do Ron,but don't care about that aspect. Our nostalgia is just that plug n play mindset, so specific things that you can catch,we probably can't. So this is where at games gets people's money still and stay relevant in the retro community. ✌

They have these on the Target website. Pretty much looks like the same thing except for the top of the case like you said in the video. They are the same price and they appear to have the same games just a different look to the top.

I'm thinking of either getting the gamers tek minigen HD or the hyperkin mega HD, what do you think of the two? Almost the same features, but I like the looks of the minigen more. It does not play PAL it seems, but I don't care about that.

People who reviewed this updated version and who actually tried a one for a while are really positive about it... And megadrive mini is great but no sonic 3 & knuckles.... At least here I can add every game I want on a megadrive

They've already hacked it. It carries an entire different sound unit. It's nearly perfect but IT DOESNT DO THE 6 PACK and save state games. So people just stick a flash drive and new software inside.

At games is making the Genesis flashback and Genesis portable consoles for Family Dollar stores they have the new afz logo on the box and it says copyright 2018 so I know they are not last years model and they have a lot of them in stock they are selling them for $40 the genesis flashback has composite stereo audio with wired controllers and the portable is black with red start and menu buttons they also have the atari flashback 9 for $40!

I was lucky to sell the hd modle from last year for 5 bucks ... Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles special stages with the blue and red spheres you cannot even play those because of the lag time

I believe Sega never said anything about them rejecting AtGames, everyone just assume that they did just cause they said they are delaying the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini til next year. For all we know that Japanese company they said they partner with may be another AtGames affiliate company. We need to take these rumor with a grain of salt and stop assuming that they did what we thought they did just like how we thought Nintendo was going to bring Virtual Console to the Switch when Nintendo made no such claim. Also you assume way too much about the Japanese market, there some audience there that may accept and enjoy products like these. If crap clone systems like the PokeFami DX and Super FC Mobile which are basically what the Retro Duo Portable and SupaBoy were called in Japan were able to be sold there, it's likely AtGames products may be able to be sold there too of course not in high numbers but there will be some of those few customers who are still looking for that nostalgic experience.

I don't think this is the same one that Sega was releasing because one was delayed to 2019 and this is going to be on shelves in 2018.

I caught my girlfriend and her friend trying to plug one of these @ things into my TV. To be fair, they had a big tub filled with mega drive carts. I set up the raspberry pi and left them to it.

I'm fine with the grey and white handheld. It got me into collecting Genesis games and I still pull it out during trips or appointments and the lower sound doesn't bug me for that purpose. As for the console version...there's no way in hell I'd buy it and I'm forgiving as all hell. Shit, I still play my handheld even though I notice the difference. I can accept slight authenticity issues on a $30 handheld. On a home console, that you plug into your television, that let's you play original cartridges...It better be able to emulate one of the easiest systems to emulate perfectly. There aren't any excuses. This isn't a Ps3 mini or an N64 mini...it's a basic ass Genesis. Get it right.

My guess is this is kind of a Fox with Marvel licenses situation. The whole reason that godawful second Fantastic Four movie exists is because Fox needed to use it or lose it, when it came to the IP. Maybe At@Games is in the same situation.

if you search youtube you'll find a brazilian youyuber has made a video of another version with a usable micro usb slot for roms(not sure of the year), manufactured by tektoy another brazilian company(perhaps the parent or subsidary company of atgames), another model which i see little marketing of.. You said you could find no marketing of the model in your video, you should reach out to some brazilan retro gaming youtubers, it may have been marketed in portugese...

You know who is responsible for this mess of a console? The answer is Sega. They should have never allowed atgames to make it in the first place, and instead have done it themselves, just like Nintendo did with their classic consoles. This is just tarnishing the sega brand, and quite frankly, maybe that is why sega got out of the console making business. They are just not good at it. If I was going to release a classic console, the company comeback at consoles, I could have made sure that it was a good quality product.

I hate azzgames as well. That said I have bought several consoles new from them, one a gift. And lately that pong hdmi stick. (quality above average) It's all crapp. I'm a sucker for paddle controllers though. So I am a part of the problem, sorry for that. Thank you for blasting azzgames, I think certain people get paid to write positive reviews, etc.. It takes real guts to speak out, so again thank you. They lie, they screw everything up. And that is the cringe part. If only to put a little itsy pitsy effort they could be great devices and they would be well regarded and make way more money and have happy gamers.
