I'm in the US & received my sapphire black M240i 3 weeks ago. The purists out there knock the design, but most of them would have a problem with a crooked pinky toe on a Victoria Secret model. The design is unorthodox, aggressive, forward thinking, eye-catching, and elegant all at the same time. Mechanically, it's a beautiful beast of engineering with gobs of power, spiderman-like grip, a phenomenal driving position, and excellent feedback. It's not perfect; yeah it's heavy, turning radius is subpar, brakes are ultra-sensitive, back seat is more like a suggestion, and I'm sure I'll find more as time goes on. However for what it is in my opinion, at this price point, it's a better choice than the new Z or the ToyoBimmer-Supra. You want a track car? Wait for the M2...for the rest of us, this is a perfect match.
I love your thoughts and spot on imo . I have a Brooklyn grey fully loaded and the car is amazing. Couldn’t be happier and it puts a smiles on my face everytime I get in or even think about it 👍🏻👊🏻
We have the Thundernight, my wife calls it "Barney" and wants to get a custom tag saying that (but so far, everything she's come up with is already taken). Loved the looks from day 1, finding it somewhat updated retro from BMW's glory days. In fact, it's the only BMW design I do like. I'm not sure it's the purists who knock it, I've read what they write and watched the videos where they knock it, but I just don't see it. It's my all-time favorite car, it does so much well and has some practicality to it too, all while blasting bone stock 3.7 sec 0 - 60 according to Dragy. It likes to get a little loose in the backend in corners when you give some throttle, but the xDrive just instantly pulls it all together, it's so easy to drive fast. Unlike every other fast car I've owned, when I'm just driving around normally in comfort or eco, it's perfectly quiet, comfortable and as livable as a Camry. Will probably have this one for a while, I don't anticipate BMW will have a successor that is as good.
Beast of engineering? What a joke. More like a beast of mass appeal and modular manufacturing peppered with price gouging. Track car? 3900 pound M2 lol? Track car? Huh? The G80 M3 weighs 20 pounds more, what is the point? The M2's only redeeming factor is its lower price point. It's a stupid car built for stupid people. Fat, ugly, fake car, that drives like a video game. Fake brakes, fake engine noise, fake everything. It's a luxury barge with zero emotion and personality. There is nothing special about its engineering. It's just another luxury car....
for me M240i is one of the very few modern BMW (and modern cars in general in terms of design) vehicles that I really like for how it was designed and the technicals. It's honestly my dream car with thunderstorm (techno violet) in matte color would be a perfect match.
Knowing that there will also be a RWD version available soon. Which one do you think you would have? RWD version is about 50kg lighter and will have the LSD aswell but lacks of course the added traction of AWD.
I think It'll be more like 100kg, that was the difference of the F22 XDrive and SDrive. And as the drivetrain is more or less the same as the predessor... Edit: It was 65KG don't know where I got the 100 from
@@Magic_Vince 1. make car with adequate brakes, and cooling 2. cut it out and replace with crap 3. make an option to bring it back for reasonable price 4. everyone's happy, Make profit! but at least price is good.
I will receive my m240i S Drive with performance package around September and if it's like with the F22 the Sdrive will be 65kg lighter than the XDrive. I already ordered some Sloted disks, Endless mx72+ pads, Motul rbf660 brakefluid and some braided Brakelines as I'm taking it to the Ring for some Laps in my freetime. I think that should get rid of the long brake pedal to some extend. If KW hasn't released their Product then, I think some H&R spring should work in the meantime, they lower the car about 30mm and tend to be a bit stiffer then the OEM ones.
The Uk/Eu variant have slightly different named options and different seats too. I have a Brooklyn Grey G42 with the Pro/Tech packs and M Tech pack and adaptive suspension. Basically I ticked every option box except comfort. Compared to my previous M240 this is leaps and bounds above it. The published 374bhp is way off, some have been coming in at 400bhp. I’ve not experienced any brake fade or under steer when driving hard. Pity delivery times are bad at the moment and in conjunction with the redesigned interior a month after the car was released in the UK/EU, some dealerships are getting some grief. I prefer the look of the current interior to the new glass cockpit of the LCI/MK2 G42.
Yeah, the updated interior with the curved display is pretty horrendous. Hopefully it's a one-and-done thing and the next generation car will re-integrate the gauge cluster and infotainment with the dash.
@@F87Zach They are pushing iDrive 8 hard for logistical reasons and they have already gone on record saying that the future probably won't be all about screens like this. I don't expect the old interior to come back, but I also don't expect the iDrive 8 way of doing things to stick around long.
Great video as always! thank you for sharing your thoughts on these cars from a track focused perspective, it’s extremely insightful. seems like with a proper alignment, mild weight reduction, stronger pads, & suspension upgrades this car can be very capable
eh, at that point a new m2 would probably be more worth it and more capable. if you buy this car it isn't for track purposes. The car is a whale, and im pretty sure the suspension geometry will be much inferior to that of an m2 thats how BMw usually designs their non M cars, you could in theory match HP but it wont be worth it if it goes to track (besides other issues that the car may have like overheating and oil starvation. But the car looks fantastic and that color is cool asf.
@@leoteruel2756 honestly you definitely over analyzed it. Some solid springs to lower center of gravity, some stickier break pads and tires and removing the rear seats is definitely cheaper than buying the upcoming m2. Especially paying for premium maintenance items. Nonetheless m2 definitely the superior track car. M240 best being for your buck no doubt
@@Badmon.Bryann no, this is a track perspective comparison. Buying a 240i and adding those mods won't get it near close an M2. This is how BMW usually designs their cars (this almost always happens for people that want to track a bmw), in the sense that non-m cars are not for track and the money to get it near an M2 will probably be more expensive. An m car is waaaay more than weight savings and some suspension bits.
@@leoteruel2756 quick little search on fastest laps left me pretty shocked. Just checked how much faster the (f87) m2 is than the 2022 m240. F87 m2 did a 7:58 around the Nurburgring and the 22 m240 did a 7:58.59. We still don’t have a time for the new gen m2 however I’d say it isn’t gonna be much much lower.
beautiful car, especially in RWD form with M pro pack and the optional wider tires. Pads + Suspension and you have a great can do it all car. I own the previous platform. The suspension was way worse and it was lacking an LSD. But it’s lighter and way cheaper.
A set of Camber plates with coil overs and proper Cup 2 tires would solve all issues. Also a set of high temp pads and fluids. Also a race battery, OPF delete and rear seat delete will save you significant weight. Pretty soon the aftermarket will provide these options
Can you please comment more on what you can do alignment - wise on the stock components to cure (some of) the understeer? I guess front camber is fixed. Front convergence can be reduced but from my experience this makes it somewhat unpleasant in normal driving (potential gains depend on how extreme is the factory setting). I found reducing the rear convergence is the most effective, but I'd really like to hear about your experience with that. I guess other people might find it useful too :)
Nice safe-push driving for the first lap :). You can "see" the weight of the car when you are squealing the tires on the apex of Galgenkopf, while matching the speed of a small Corsa or something :)
Suspension seems to be very bad. Lots of unstable bumby situations and suspensions is only „soft“. KW Suspension would make the car so much more capable ….soft but still stable!
Just out of curiosity: How do you get a brand-new US spec car? Or was it bought in USA and imported here? How does it work (do you have to modify it to be legal on German streets?)? Cheers, Emm
Okay, thanks for the quick reply :) I assume that implies an import from USA? Do they have "special" regulations for the German street laws? Because i saw it has a german licence plate... I don't know how things work when working for the US Military, I just know we won't get that sound when buying one here :D PS: I love that you reply yourself (if it is you) and fast. Subbed now :)
With this car being about the same price and hp levels as a TTRS, what would you guys pick for nordschleife and trackdays etc? TTRS is a lot lighter, but being audi maybe more understeer? But then again you could probably get that out with alignment, tires, suspenions, maybe even swaybars etc. But you would have to do that on the 240i aswell. TTRS should be a bit more sportscar biased I would think and you could take out 100+kg out of the ttrs aswell to make it even lighter. Whats your thoughts about that comparison?
“…it fit my budget perfectly…” Enter skylights fuel prices. 😂 p.s. I own a 340iX F30 and I know how much fuel they guzzle, even with very moderate driving.
Too bad Dinan doesn't have a EDC Shockware Tune for the G42 models yet, if I buy one in the future, it will be the first mod I do to hide the weight and improve steering feel. My 430i used to be a bit vague under load at moderate pace and as fun as it was stock, it's a big girl with some weight so the 15% stiffness increase and quicker adaptivity transformed the way the car drives, feels much more like a sports car than a sport luxury coupe.
Not true actually. The M CEO said that the new gen M3 and M4 are a success in terms of sales. I think many people don't like the new design but buy regardless because they are good cars.
The AWD system in the transverse 4 pot is pretty dam good. Although a different lay out if that is anything to go by 4wd is a no brainer for outright performance
I'm usually a RWD guy but with the power these cars are pushing this rwd bias X drive seems like a no brainer. Shame the new M2 is rwd only, but at least it has a manual!
All I ever used to see is BMW fans say how it takes no skill to drive AWD and a true drivers car is RWD. Now that BMW have given M cars and M lites X Drive it’s the best thing ever 😂 They would never make the M2 X Drive as it would probably take away a decent chunk of the market from the X Drive versions of the G80/82.
I superliked the car. Test Drove it for an hour and it amazed me every time I put down the peddle. Only the steering felt a wobbly. But I felt I was in control all the time. Not sure if I should wait for The rear wheel or get this xdrive. 🤔
Misha: Yes you see on the Nm-dials that at 5:46 the Nm are cutted down once reaching ca 248 kmh Due to new regulation BMW has to cut the power already before 250kmh limiter - to avoid peaks above limit of 250kmh Some 2022 cars such as M440i etc are only reaching 246kmh etc top speed On f-Series there was full power until you reached Limit top speed
@@OxxidCZ Fair question I just read there is a new regulation, and also BMW confirmed they cannot run „hard“ into 250kmh anymore and have to cut down power already before 250 to avoid beeing shortly/slightly over 250
Just got 240i, love it, how you get that sports set up on the dash, mines got the bigger screen on the left of the wheel( uk) is it a setting to get the graphics behind the wheel
BMWs often have a lot of toe-in to make the car super stable and safe, a bit less toe-in rear and some toe-out front should reduce the understeer to some extend and make the car more alive :)
Everybody try to lose weight, bmw is not. The old one is 1540 kg, this one is 1690.🙄🙄 Maybe some carbon components and of course no window on the top 🤣.
its not like everybody hates them, but i think we can all agree that they polarize more than previous models, which is sad :( i really tried to like the 2 series but i just cant :( also the g82 is such a bad grille design… man the thing drives so good it makes me sad…
