I've actually seen that done. Was the only way to get the guys down (yes, multiple trips). Grab the crane hook and hang on. When you're surrounded by fire, a crane hook is a damn fine option
As a volunteer firefighter, I lol'd so, so hard at this. Went to help a full timer toting some bunk beds for a camp on a big job, he had 4 in his arms and was on the phone. Dude would have been Roscoe's age. I took two and was almost at my limit. I was just like, "don't be a pussy, lift that shit and don't complain.' Funniest shit on the truck the next day telling that story. That old guy was a machine!

Safety guy endorsing this is just beautiful because there is absolutely nothing safe about this... first that ladder is hanging by a STRAIGHT bar, not a hook. Can easily slid off a ladder. Second, no hard hat or safety glasses. Third, no harness. Then, last and probably most important, no high visibility vest! That can kill a guy!
