We head on what I would consider the 'Ultimate Western Cape Road Trip' in the brand new Land Rover Defender. We drive the Swartberg Pass and venture into the Die Hel, before dropping down to the Garden Route and tackle some coastal hikes and surfing. I discovered your channel recently. I work in film and TV so appreciate the work you put in to your videos and have been binge watching. I visited South Africa for the first time last year and spent four days in Kruger National Park - WOW. This year I returned to S.A. and visited Cape Town, clambered over the rocks up Platteklip Gorge to the top of Table Mountain, visited Stellenbosch. Amazing country you have. This New Zealander now really loves South Africa.

Amazing, unfortunately the further back on the timeline you go, the worse the content gets, haha! Incredible - so glad that you enjoyed SA and next time you climb Table Mountain, I'd highly recommend doing the Indian Venster route instead of Platteklip...super scenic with views in every direction! Hopefully I can explore NZ sometime in the future, I have a lot of friends there so would love to see it for myself, it looks beautiful :)

@@NicoleEddy1 Hiking in New Zealand is exceptional - also there is nothing likely to jump out of the bush to bite, sting, trample or eat you so camping on the ground anywhere is very safe. The active volcanic areas such as The Tongariro Crossing will amaze you as will the southern mountain areas.

Yeah, I find that post production goes a lot quicker these days, I do just need to work on creating more of a storyboard and shot list when filming as we wasted a lot of time getting footage that will never be used...but you live and you learn right?! Beautiful video! As. A birder in Florida, loved your inclusion of different species of birds! It’s so different from us...recall seeing a humming bird, heron, a spoonbill, and a colorful looked similar to our cedar waxwing!

I'm so glad that you appreciated the birds :) That's correct, off-hand I remember inserting clips of a Kelp Gull, a spoonbill, a pied Kingfisher (perhaps you might have been confusing him with the hummingbird as unfortunately those don't occur here), a Knysna Loerie/Turaco (the colourful bird) and a Southern Boubou.

Haha, well it's not really the 'wrong side' of the road, it's just different to the side that you drive 😂 I must say, I freaked out when driving in the US for the first time with having to drive on the other side, it definitely is so daunting especially when it comes to circles/roundabouts and navigating traffic lights!

I got to test Defender here in Norway, and was charmed! A wonderful mix of charm, new fashion's high technology, and certainly good in the terrain too! I only had it on asphalt, and saw white on some worse roads. It gave me a sense of security!

Most definitely - I think until you drive the vehicle do you realise how much of a pleasure it is to drive. I wholeheartedly agree, the security and capability that we felt in the car was certainly very high, definitely felt a LOT more reliable than the old one 😂

Hi nicole and Blair What beautiful scenery we all got to see. I'm trying to make out where you were at some point. It looked like the wilderness as we go there often. Also what area did you surf at. Super pics of you guys walking with the sun going down and you carrying your boards. The birdie is stunning. How I long to get away in Feb when we take the road with our BMW x5. Hubby loves his x5. We've had three so nice for gravel and stoney roads. We go to a lovely stud farm called prince hamlet near ceres. It's home away from home with bird life and horses. Lovely walks and sunsets. We are also sea people like you. Thanks for this super vlog. Waiting for the next one. Take care xx never knew our planet had so much to offer. Your videos and camera pics are awsome. Hi Mary :) Thanks for your comment! Our route was Swartberg Pass (Die Hel), followed by Leisure Isle (Knysna), Robberg Nature Reserve in Plett, Teniqua Tree Tops (where the loerie was filmed) which is just inland from Sedgefield and the surfing was done at Victoria Bay just before Wilderness! Amazing, that Ceres area is simply incredible - I definitely need to explore it more, I bet that you are both looking so forward to getting out onto the open road :)

It grew on us during the trip and we came to absolutely love it :) I agree, it's like a greyish-blue colour so the blue isn't too intense, if that makes sense? Definitely prefer it to the green colour one!

Beautiful video. The scenes from Knysna and Robberg made me so homesick. Did a tour where you swim with the seal colony at Robberg and it was the most terrifying half an hour of my life. Didn’t even know about the lurking sharks at that point

Yes, I’ve heard of that seal snorkeling experience but apparently it’s quite safe to do - the sharks steer clear of the colony itself because the larger seals get quite aggressive (this is what the guide told us anyway). But considering how many of those tours go out, and the fact that there’s been no incidents - I think you’re all good 👌🏼

Hahaha, they're funny things! They're an antelope species called a Klipspringer, and they're usually incredible skittish so I can't believe how close we got to them. Super comical to look at and film 😂

This video was shot beautiful. The only suggestion that I have is to increase your blacks or shadows when colorgrading. The darker details are quite hard to make out

Thank you so much for both the compliment and advice. I must be honest, my colour grading skills are well below par, so it’s definitely something that I need to work on going forward :)
