I've always been a big fan of Meguiar's ever since I got my first car. I think I have used or tried just about everything they offer over the counter and a lot of their body shop and detailer line. These people know detailing. Finally they have brought an easy to use ceramic spray coating to market, and part of their Ultimate line which has always been top shelf for the consumer. I think it will make your car look AMAZING whether your paint is polished to a high shine or not!

Thanks for doing a video and sharing your experience Martin. As we discussed on the side, this product is a real cross-linking coating and as such it needs at least a week to fully cure (especially in the winter). So for this test just 2 days after applying, I guess it did fairly well considering it definitely wasn't close to fully cured. Also, that extra product down in the corner means that area was totally un-cured as the excess would keep the base layer from properly curing. As for the ammonia thing - this is not "ammonia-based," it simply contains a small amount of ammonia. The chemistry of this product is especially unique - it actually begins to activate and properly cure when you wipe it into the paint as that process releases the catalyst. It is a slower curing coating as this allows for a much more forgiving install and keeps it from causes high spots, too. Are you discontinuing megs hybrid paint coating now that this is out? The hybrid paint coating is the only thing I've tried that resist water spots.

5 day cure? Bruh that's crazy, impractical, and probably not true. Imagine if you did this for customer cars, or even yourself? There are professional ceramic coatings that only need 24 hours, how can this casual spray need a week?

Thanks for taking the time to do this. In all honesty its pretty awesome for what it is. Im a little biased and have been a long time fan of their products, but to have a product sold over the counter that you legit slap on and wipe off yield those kind of results is awesome. Looking forward to the other 2.

Meguires is one of if not my favorite product to use & their synthetic wax had my car shining so much that other car guys would take a pic of the bottle so they could purchase. They just make great products

I used the Defender before and i was impressed then bought the UCC and it was way better in terms of gloss and slickness. Hope the UCC will be on par with their Hybrid Paint Coating which lasted about 12months of protection on my daily. Had a rain storm a week ago and that water beading from UCC was satisfying lol. Just had it parked outside and just watched the water roll off the paint.

P&s defender shocked me in this video! When I apply it as a spray wax fashion to non polished/prepped customer vehicles it barely lasts 2 washes! Would love to see a video on a decon only section!

I like the darkening and enhanced color saturation that Meguiars created on your red test panel. I have been using Vonixx Sinergy Paint and would like to see a durability comparison of Vonixx against Meguiars. Sure like the visual pop that you got from Meguiars.

I joined the world of sio2 and over time I noticed that my car was full of water spots. I used Vonixx Blend, Meguiars ceramic, CarPro and had problems with all of them. I did a paint correction and went back to using the old megs nxt covered with nuba. I never had any problems again and the brightness is much better

it beads the water up well, and if you dont properly dry after washing or being near sprinklers you get water spotting. wax can absorb the minerals which is nice but it doesnt last or have the same chemical resistance. I have a couple videos testing out waxes I think you would like!

@@BelLavoroAutoSpa Yes, the durability of ceramic sprays is better, but I enjoy waxing my car once a month with paste. It's therapeutic. For maintenance I use vonixx Native spray.

What would be your top product like this to repel dust? Im a landscaper and im constantly fighting dust sticking to my f150 while working

Not a whole lot of hope, since dust sticks because of static electricity. Definitely something slick. This would help mitigate it but nothing will eliminate it.

Solvent based coatings are generally better than water based for sure. Have not seen ammonia used before but I’ll ask my father who is a chemist.

I don't actually know for certain. I would imagine that by using ammonia as the carrier solvent they are able to put more ceramic resins into the product vs just using pure water.

So when you said ammonia based I immediately thought about the smell of the cerakote rapid ceramic sealant. I wonder if that is a similar product to this . I think the megs might perform better overall based on this test.

Possibly. I have not tried that yet. The smell of this is not strong at all though. You won't even notice an odor.

@@BelLavoroAutoSpa yeah I wouldn’t call the smell of the cerakote being particularly strong either but it’s noticeable, it’s similar to the off smell that griots ceramic speed shine gives off underneath their fragrance if you can picture that.

TW ceramic spray has low Sio2 content. It's mostly wax and silicone polymers.

This is much more durable and is mostly ceramic where the blue and green are a mix of ceramic and polymer.

You can but the coating won't bond. You should use this and then wax if you wish.

1 8 ounce bottle should get you around 5-8 vehicles worth. Longevity they claim its long lasting like around a year but realistically I would say 6 months.

Proper surface prep and allowing cure time. I polish the paint and clean with paint prep before applying to get a string bond.

Those spray-type products are merely high-end, high-cost versions of synthetic sealants which could not be utilised in the 90s when it would be insane to charge $25 for such a small bottle. Now, when a detectable pinprick amount of “ceramic” is added to the formulation (is it even a functional qty?)…it enables “ceramic” to be legally used on the label while pricing it at a ridiculous level. Logically, if the “coating” is genuinely THAT great, why do you need to keep using such fantastic spray-type coatings on top of those coatings? And typical of such defunct but very high-end spray sealants with the words Ceramic or SiO2 on the label, they leave behind lots of “sticky beads” even on a horizontal panel. Eg: Treat your trunk lid with such BS defunct spray type products, allow to cure and then open the trunk lid so that its upright. Spray water on it and you’ll see lots of sticky beads that just cling to the upright surface. So, dont get cheated. The REAL ceramic type spray on products that contain functional levels of SiO2 and based on the latest formulations, hardly leave behind many beads on an upright panel. Eg: GYEON’s CAN COAT and newest CAN COAT EVO. A brilliant example of “you get what you pay for”

Meguiars always had a coating called M788 for years. They just never released it in the US due to regulations. They finally released M888 for the professionals and people who want a long term ceramic coating. They also released this for the general consumer and made it easy to apply, yet have the same type of protection you'd expect from a coating. They take their time with products and don't rush out over-marketed stuff, the most recent example is the Cerakote ceramic coating debacle.

This is the first actual, true spray coating in the retail market (at least in the US), so I guess it depends how you look at things. There are a bunch of products that call themselves coatings, but if they are actually just sealants, than is Meguiar's late or actually first? ;) -MK, Meguiar's
