I know very basic ASL. The alphabet and about 50 words. Knowing just that, I've been able to help several people. We drove past a family trying to tell a security guard they were deaf and please look at them when talking to them. The guard kept turning away. I had my brother stop and go back. Our school district taught all students the ASL Alphabet as we took in all the hearing impaired students from half our state.
@@carriebaker5161 👍 for your help ! Asl should be learnd in every school starting at youg age . So we can help , understand and who know need it some day to express ourself. GREAT 👍👍👍👍 for your school district!
@@Mr.L9 I was once reception manager in a hotel and had two young guests from abroad who were deaf. I told them, if they need something they should call me and tap on the mouthpiece with a pen so that I could come up to their room and help them. But I have a question: in case of emergency, how do you communicate with 911? Is there a special device you can use?
I’m so proud of him and his parents! I’m Deaf. I hope he could help the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to communicate with ASL like the police don’t know ASL then call him to meet and to communicate. I hope he becomes successful. Congratulations! 🤟🏻
@@VIKTOR-ck3dx many daycares are starting to use sign language to communicate with baby's and toddlers that don't talk yet. The reason is because scientist have found that it is one of the easiest and fastest languages for babies and toddlers to learn. Especially when doing signs like more, eat, drink, and bathroom.
I promise ASL is the most rewarding thing to learn, the look on the faces of those who are deaf when they realize you’ve taken the time to learn to talk to them. It’s sincerely one of the greatest things I’ve ever experienced.
@thenewmiLONNIEum Why do people like you insist on pushing your political agenda on posts that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. You aren’t helping black people by doing that, I specifically work with black veterans for social justice and help by translating asl for those who have lost hearing in war. What are you doing besides typing?
@Anja Marie he has a ny/east coast accent. Different regions in North America have different accents. I have a Midwestern accent lol. Or the person that commented could be from another part of the world. If so, Americans still have different accents than other people around the world 🗺
So many deaf people are ignored or misunderstood and end up detained and confused with now way to communicate to officers. This is so wonderful. Koda’s have a special insight that can comfort deaf people and teach the hearing. I love this kind of news.
Here's a brave man with an even bigger heart! I can see his love for his mom and dad and his deep devotion for them. Kudos to you.. Americans all over are proud of you!
Ok, are these people on the stage super tall or are all the new cops jist SUPER short? 😀 edit: a google search reveals Bill De Blasio is 6'5" so probably super tall
My mom worked with deaf children my whole young life. My brothers and I learned and used sign language early didn't realize everybody didnt know how to sign until we were old enough to really understand. I didn't know how much of a blessing my mom making us learn would be in my life I've gotten jobs crazy tips as a teen and young adult etc. I agree with the officer everyone should know at least the basics and if you're someone like me who loves to help others it makes you feel amazing when you can step in and help communication happening anywhere. I've helped at lot over the years at registers and resturants. Bless this young man and all the officers that protect and serve.
@Charlene Harris , it should be learned ath school from young age ( also first aid and cpr) . And a exam to get your drivers licence . Respect for your mother and you , you are well raised ! 👍🤘🏼
I completely agree and I hope more people pick up some ASL! There’s a whole part of the population that can’t communicate with the rest of us because we refuse to put in the time to learn a few basic signs. It makes me sad to think about
awesome coda way to go! so glad our world and careers are giving deaf same opportunity as well as using asl i feel graduates should have to know basic conversation to graduate high school
I saw him at SweetGreen. While I was there, Captain kicked my leg, and I had to call 911. However, I was happy to see someone who was fluent in sign language. It turns out that no report was issued.
I laughed out loud at that one!! THAT'S A MOM!!! She doesn't have to hear the words, she knows when her baby's tryin' to pull one over her! No wonder this boy grew up right!
My aunt and uncle were deaf. They had 12 kids together. The first three learned spoken language from the extended family. The younger 9 learned from their old siblings. Meanwhile in my town in another part of that state, the two children of a deaf couple were taken away because they were not deaf and the authorities thought it was inappropriate for deaf parents to raise children that were not deaf. The justification used was that and the belief that leaving them in that home environment would constitute child abuse. The case went through the courts and the parents never got their kids back. I lost track of the family when we moved from that town. That was 50 years ago.
I think sign language should be taught on school, even if it’s just 1-2 hours a week. 206.000 people who need to communicate via signing in NY is a big number
You are a grand asset to the police force!!!! Just like an interpreter for foreign languages!!! ASL should be taught as a foreign language in school and made signs universal! If this was done you could speak in any language in any country. It could be the real Universal language!!!!!!
What a beautiful family. They have three handsome sons and the baby girl. I always wished I had older brothers, instead of younger. I took an older cousin to be my older brother.
