Nothing tears at your insides, except a few events in a man's life. Loosing a four legged buddy is one of those!❤ I had a black lab same age but born with visual defect and he took to me. The one habit of being protective is 30 feet of 6.5" cedar fence that was parallel to a public sidewalk and someone tossed antifreeze laced meat over the fence. 1 1/2 days he was gone. I was in shock and sat in my garage paralyzed! Your door will need bottom corners sectioned in and the edge welded. Either Taiwan or China, the 7 year old boy is going to loose their job! That $1.52 US will sting a while but they will get over it. I know the weather strip your are talking about but the flange can be messaged into a good spot as well. After fitting my cheap internet with India customer service, I was able to get passed two customer service agents that did not have a mouth full of marbles. Fine, but I can't get my newer printer to connect. Your door issues make me feel better about my extra thick tailgate with GM stamped on the box. 1/8th" off I could live with but mine is 3/8" wide at the top right for about 7" then goes away. Question: Those hinges don't look factory? Something different? Either Curt, it was ironic I was thinking about your channel and went to it 45 minutes after your published it. More work, feels like time waist, just be glad knowing YOU can do it. Then get crazy with door / frame wax later. I don't watch any main stream TV, but remember hearing about a UPS or FedEx strike or something like that. There is no way to package those well. I like your work as the day is short & people are not watching RU-vid as before. Several I watch have mentioned it and even asked to continue. Curt, Maggie is a great breed for animals as we had a "Blue Australian" that had more dark areas. Best dog on the farm! Curt, please have better luck!
gday mate .. feelin your pain .. cars always gave me the shits when I was younger, then one lightbulb moment it hit me - buy a completed car that somebody else put too much time money and hardwork into - add my touches to it and just relax as I cruise around stress free. You previously said you are a perfectionist so this may not necessarily work for you .. but could be worth a go. also the new puppy dog is a beauty .. cheers from down under 🍻👍
Oh trust me I would love nothing more to buy them completed. Just can’t afford to do it that way, I have to build them in pieces over time🤣. Best part about it if I get frustrated is it’s mine not a customers so if I don’t want to look at it for a month I don’t have to😁
Curt, I am happy for you & Maggie! I am however depressed as I see your problems. Just take your cut outs, round them out similar to new, grab a magnet or weld a temp handle and tack in deeper in place. It may fix both front and rear lowers. Tape is about the thickness of a dollar bill. So work from there. It is easy to get mad but at the dealer / shop, you would have a lot of dented fenders or broken windshields. It is aggravating but walk away, then come back. You have a bunch down now that is near flawless! Keep going buddy, you have skills! DK, Omaha.
Yeah, coming off my chevelle build it is very frustrating. I got spoiled and used to aftermarket parts that actually fit. These have been so hit and miss. Only advice I can give people is try to start with a solid vehicle. But anymore finding a cheap solid vehicle to start with is non existent.
My condolences on your baby, I lost a dog, really still a puppy at 1 yr old…..I got very depressed and couldn’t do anything for couple weeks……my wife went out and bought me another havanese puppy about a month after loosing my lil Buddy…..I didn’t know if it was fair to the new pup as I wasn’t ready to replace my boy……it’s been 2 years now and my new boy and I are fine. I hate after market parts….I have been buying used rust free parts for my 67 c10 for 8 years…..it all fits together great, but, lots of small dings and dents….I’m going to leave it and do a patina paint job. Your truck is coming along very nice !
Yes, it’s always very hard loosing a dog. I’m as attached to them as I am my own son. I have always needed to get another one as soon as possible. For me that helps a little, but like kids no 2 will ever be alike. I wish I had access close by to some rust free parts here but I’ve checked and unfortunately for me the side of door I need nobody has. If I could turn back the clock I might have just done a patina paint on this one too and just did the chassis, powertrain and interior.
I know it’s discouraging, remember, these trucks didn’t line up perfectly from the factory.. i’ve been going through the same thing on a 72 same door, lol i’m used to dealing with newer cars that aren’t that hard to line up. I had to change my way of thinking it was driving me nuts too. That is I’m gonna cut and weld Tall is right and I don’t know how long that’ll take. Keep up the good work.
Oh yeah this one is really testing me. Some just really fight you the whole way. Definitely more difficult when using aftermarket body panels though they definitely don’t always fall together like the OEM stuff. But as you said these trucks were rarely perfect when they were new.
I complete agree with you (@strongarmtactcalb...) I was going to suggest the masking tape method for forming the bottom corners. God, Curt, as hard as you have worked on this plus AMD has been the best for most RU-vid builders including "My Friend Pete". Travis Sylvester put out a video 6 months ago on "Cancer Repair Metal working How-to" but then it take a tipping die, a brake, things like that. I don't own a TIG and never used one. I am no body professional, just a tech, and old tech. But find some TIG wire to match the door the trucks door curve. You do it your way. I am just talking out loud like a neighborhood friend. Best of luck but you have cut new metal. That gap alone may be all that's needed! DK, ASE Master, retired and in pain.
Did you replace the rockers some of those after market are also junk I’ve been rebuilding these truck for 40 years and the aftermarket parts suck big time you’ve always got to overhaul the junk. I feel ya also that’s a good looking pup too .
Two parts actually fit. I would buy a lotto ticket that day. But honestly, many talk highly AMD sheet metal, but not sure how much if any are made in the states.
That is exactly why you don't paint until you have fitted the doors and make sure that they fit properly...after market doors never fit right ...looks like another door time ...good luck ...
The doors were fitted to perfection before the cab was painted and It wasn’t until I decided the drivers door wasn’t perfect enough and I should have left well enough alone that I ended up with the drivers door being unusable and needing a replacement door.
It is Triplus. Which from what I have got is hit or miss. Either I get a really good fitting part or absolute garbage. Bedsides were another example of this. One was perfect the other had issues. So I don’t know if this stuff is made at 2 different factories and you throw the dice when you order where it is coming from or there is no quality control from the 12 year olds in the sweat shops. It’s unfortunate that these parts aren’t made to the standards of some other models of cars I have built.
