Informative video! It will be interesting to see how much the Booster Plug helps the *BS6* Royal Enfield twins, which may be set for leaner fuel mixtures. As for susceptibility of the probe to cooling by the intake air, that's just what you want, as "susceptibility" just means "sensitivity" - the temp of the probe will rise or drop more quickly to match the temp of the ambient air, and its degree of "fooling" the ECU will more quickly be as intended. The metal part of the probe must be in free flowing air (such as you have placed it), though, and not be in contact with a solid (or liquid).

Having installed this on my Himalayan, I can happily say that it does fuck all. I can't vouch for the 650 twins, but for the LS410, the BoosterPlug is little more than a gimmick. Not directed at you guys @ TEC as I know you're simply in business as a reseller - but if you have a Himalayan, save your money for something better.

Hello. I removed the original air filter cover and made a piece to hold the original air filter, thereby increasing the air flow. At first it seemed that I was choking a bit between 5000 RPM and 7000 RPM, I was almost to give up and return to the original setup but decided to continue. I think that over the miles this choking has been decreasing, it may be the ECU adjusting but ....... in terms of performance, I think it is very much the same but perhaps improved the throttle response without load on the engine. One thing has definitely changed ...... the engine noise is spectacular even with the original exhaust. maybe if i change the exhaust i think about putting something that gives me more control over the fuel air mixture, but it is not easy to get it in Portugal. Best regards.

@chrisgraham5186
@chrisgraham5186 4 года назад
Just a query, George… How much data does the RE ECU record?… You mention removing the Booster plug etc., if having warranty issues checked, but I know some ECUs will record changes so the dealer could simply interrogate the ECU - I've got a ’90 HD with an S&S motor fitted with their IST ignition (the closest thing to engine management with a carb), and back when the motor was still under warranty I had a strange occasional misfire. My S&S dealer was able to download the engine's complete history into his lap top to search for these instances. It showed any high rev situations, even when I'd run onto reserve (by a 'lean' spike from the exhaust sensor), so he could isolate these misfire incidences (It turned out to be a redundant choke cable bracket from the original HD engine had got loose and was occasionally tapping the cylinder head, fooling the knock sensor which then tried to dial out the 'knock'.) Does the RE twin's ECU record this kind of data?… and could an RE dealer interrogate it and invalidate warranty claims if it detected that additional electronics had been fitted at some time (even if removed at the time of a dealer visit)? It seems, on today's vehicles, Big Brother is never too far away.

Considering that it works only during acceleration/deceleration, does it imply that fuel economy would be affected adversely in city/stop-go traffic? But I guess even if you go by a 6% constant increase (which won’t be the case all the time anyway) in fueling in a stop-go traffic, it may only reduce it by about 1 or 2 km/litre in the absolute worst case scenario! Plus there will be the advantage of running the engine cooler in city traffic! This is awesome! I just ordered mine, can’t wait to fit it.

Have you ever thought that by adding an allegedly higher flow air filter, you could be leaning out the mixture even more? I think those high flow air filters are ‘snake oil’ personally. Think about it for a minute. The air filter is designed to work with the throttle body and the rest of the system. It will only allow as much air through that the throttle body and induction system allows. Therefore, even if you took the air filter out, you’re still restricted by the maximum flow through the throttle body. So how much extra air do you really think you’re going to get through an air filter of two slightly different types? Whilst I’ve seen several videos claiming this, in all reality you’re talking maybe 1-2hp max which on that. bike you wouldn’t feel. The booster plug looks a different argument though if it enriches the mixture. Great video, thanks for making it and explaining how it works
@galerinha
@galerinha Год назад
This is exactly why booster plugs exists. And the difference of changing the exhaust alone is usually 10% more hp (because of the removal of the catalyst) Changing stage 1 entirely (exhaust, air filter and spark plugs) is definitely more than 1-2 hp. Modern motorcycles are extremely constrained by emissions regulations. Don't believe me, search other videos here on yt.

Dear TEC: Looks like a good mod. Did you realize that Harley-/engine-expert "S& S", has said the RE 650cc engine can safely go out to 810cc? That's what Lal SHOULD have done from the get-go for his "out-of-India" new Twins. I can't wait until you start "workin'" on enlarging those cylinder bores! I met Lal years ago, when he only had 500cc Bullets to sell, and I TOLD him the 500cc Bullet was NOT going to "go-over" in the USA, because true Road bikes need to be the size of the never-made RE Interceptor-III [810cc minimum], because US riders expect to be able to cruise @ 80mph all day, whether they do it or not. For an inter-state Road-bike, the '55- based Bullet FAILED, being suited to only secondary roads/worse. He was angry @ me, but I was correct.
@koongfu00
@koongfu00 4 года назад
You can cruise at 80mph and more with the 650 without any problems
@chrisgraham5186
@chrisgraham5186 4 года назад
But, Jack… Sid Lal wanted the same bike to have a wide market, so built it to be accessible to A2 licence holders in the EU and similar licence categories/restrictions in other markets. Making the twin's more powerful, or bigger capacity, would have removed a huge potential customer base. As for cruising speeds, I agree about the Bullet and its derivatives, but my stock Interceptor is happy at French autoroute speeds of 80 + mph, which realistically is as much as can be sustained for long on an un-faired bike, and has taken my lard arsed self to an indicated ton (100mph).

My street twin idled about 1000 rpm 989 to be exact (warm). not a lot different, and it ran rich in open loop stock. took the booster plug off. I have an Enfield Interceptor now, I noticed there is a throttle lag stock, until about 2500 + - RPM. So perhaps it is lean initially. But I'm not going to get another Booster Plug until I get some decent exhaust on it. and run it a while. Your 2>1 perhaps if it becomes available. The BP is as you said a bandaid fix that doesn't really address the issue. The powertronic fueling piggyback has a factory preset for stock tune and doesn't offer maps for other tunes, My problem is there's no locally available dyno. PC has the same issue for me . But maybe in time you will have a map for that with your pipe ... hint hint

I just got my DNA air filter as well. I have a question. When installing the DNA filter we are supposed to start the bike and let it idle for 15 - 20 minutes without revving it in order for the ECU to "relearn" its settings. Should this be done BEFORE installing the Booster Plug, AFTER, or does it make any difference?
@Strideo1
@Strideo1 4 года назад
@@jimkubitza3820 Start it and let it idle for about 15 minutes. Don't rev it up either. Most likely it'll be fine without doing this but the extra precaution won't hurt. The ECU does learn to adjust to the extra airflow and allowing it to idle just gives the ECU extra time to adjust without a load on the engine.

I’ve a booster plug for the 2016 Bonneville and honestly it was a complete waste of money. After reading a lot it was also obvious, because it does not have effect in closed loop (constant throttle) but only in open loop mode (acceleration), as you also explained. But due to ads of the product I was expecting something else. Conclusion is, with the Bonneville I’ve no complains at all at acceleration but at constant speed and there the plug does not help at all..... Nevertheless, nice presentation.

I agree with some of what you say. A lot of people who don't understand how this works have made wild claims about boosterplugs. It works really well on bikes that have a free flow exhaust and air filter fitted. It also works well on some stock bikes that have very lumpy running or stalling at lower revs due to lean mixture. A booster plug will NOT necessarily you a BHP increase, BUT it will give you a much nicer bike to ride, with the peace of mind that it is not running too lean during acceleration. an important factor with aftermarket exhausts and air filters on some bikes.It is a handy tool in the correct situations and offers a quick low cost solution. BUT- For Heavily modified bikes I would always go for a ECU re map on a rolling road, as they normally need changes to the ignition map as well as other mods. This is why we TEST TEST TEST in all conditions, on stock and modified bikes.We don't sell parts we have not used on our bikes. At TEC we are happy to stand behind every part we sell. with a full technical and warranty back up. I have tried to give a very honest and accurate description of what it will and won't do. Also that it is not right in every bike. Without removing the cat on an early T120 you will see no real gain with just a booster plug. as the cat causes a lot of restriction on this model. This is why we offer a no quibble 60 day money back return policy if you are not 100% happy with it on your bike
