James Harden seems to be struggling with the new NBA rules, and it was evident in the Brooklyn Nets' loss to the Charlotte Hornets over the weekend. Harden has 8 turnovers, leading coach Steve Nash to complain that he's become the 'poster boy' for NBA’s new rules. Nick Wright believes this could be a hinderance to Nets' chances of winning a title, but Chris Broussard explains why he's not so sure.

I remember there was one 3 pointer James Harden took, he was guarded but not heavily, where he shot it & didn't even attempt to land on his feet. Fell flat on his back trying to draw a foul. That is why this rule was needed

It's going to be tough for Harden. Not because he can't get free throws but also because now that defenders know they don't have to worry about bs foul calls they can finally play tougher defense on Harden without having to play hesitantly

Exactly. It's not just the free throws but, the other team's foul issues that were helping Harden led teams. They would get into the penalty early so, other players would also get more free throws and teams would then be overly hesitant to defend at all. If he doesn't figure it out teams can start playing a regular defense against the Nets. This could be a big problem for the Nets.

After watching these games, Harden seems to be reacting to the non calls. He is used to playing with a certain ruleset, had essentially mastered his game built around those rules. Give him time to adjust and he will return to being an effective scorer but the only issue is they still are calling silly fouls in the paint.

Jumping backwards into guys who were trailing on screens, pump faking guys and then while they were in the air jumping forwards or sideways into them (which none of those I just described are actual basketball shots just an attempt to draw a foul and head to the line ) He literally tried to do it in preseason against the Blazers and got no call showing that he indeed is also one of the guys that needs to get used to the new rules cracking down on foul baiting

The one thing to keep in mind and granted its very very early but this season is on pace to be the lowest total FTAs in NBA history. Refs are no longer calling as much contact anymore. The players that relied on that will need to adjust or be significantly worse.

Better 3 point shooter, free throw shooter, finisher around the basket and midrange shooter. Lavine just plays the game the right way, he don't flop and get charity calls like Harden. The reason Harden chokes every post-season is because he doesn't get those BS calls like in the regular season. Lets see how he finishes the season if he doesn't get 11 plus free throws per game. Lavine doesn't need the refs to ave 27ppg while shooting 52% from the field, 45% 3 point, 94% free throw
