I’m loving the 12 speed 105 mechanical I think it’s better than my old ultegra it’s definitely quicker and smoother shifting 👍👍

It was exciting to me :) Bigger breakpad-disc clearance is a welcomed feature for me, also checked the 11-34 and 11-36 cassettes out, good ratios there with a compact front 2by drive of 34-50, oh and yes - it is _relatively_ okayish price still

The 11-34 and 11-36 12 speed cassettes are basically identical to their 10 speed counterparts but for the 12 and 14 cogs which makes it a very marginal gain for the majority of riders who dont race. GRX 400 and Tiagra 4700 10 speed are even more appealing since you get a better chainline most of the time. I do welcome the additional pad clearance though. Maybe I'll just upgrade my calipers.

105 12-speed is now Shimano's flagship mechanical groupset. That is actually great for a lot of people, and has also helped to simplify their road offering, while using the same 12-speed platform as the higher-end lines. This is for people who want leading-edge performance and don't want batteries on their bike. That's me. That's most of the people I ride with. If I wanted to shed weight, I could upgrade cranks, chain, cassette...it's all cross-compatible with Ultegra and Dura-Ace. I think this is the last video I can stand to watch with this guy. Too often his takes aren't based in reality. He just invents a situation to align with his cynical attitude.

Shimano also has 105 Di2, so they also are trying to push electric stuff. Electric is awesome, but you can't beat mechanic for reliability IMHO

Looks a great groupset for those who want a decent level of kit, but don't want to be for forced down the electronic shifting route. (Like myself.)

I don't care for 12 speed, but mechanical is the only way for me and this might actually make me change from SRAM to Shimano at some point. I need bicycle gear to be affordable, easy to maintain and repair and sturdy.

Hi Cade Team, my new Focus is coming with 105 mechanical, it was all I could afford and I have no regrets. I don't race, I've never owned electronic, I'm just happy I could afford entry level carbon frame with disc brakes, and it's an endurance. I'm happy, and i'll probably switch out things like the handlebars, new wheels for climbing, and maybe some other weight saving upgrades. Chelsea c:

Would love to buy some new 105 12 speed mechanical with a nice wide 11- 36 cassette, but there's no rim brake option... So it looks like I will be running my carefully horded Shimano Ultegra R 6800 and R 8000 for the foreseeable future...

You guys nailed the “who is this group set for” question in my opinion. There has been a noticeable gap between Tiagra and 105 for some time. Does this mean then that Tiagra will get turned up to 11?!

The 8 speed claris is great tbh. Replacing the cassette is like 20€ at decathlon and riding the bike is very cheap overall. Makes it a fantastic experience. I wait for the new grx because 11-51 will be perfect for bikepacking

The Cues cassette is more durable as it is made from a sheet with a thicker wall. Also good for chain eaters like e-bikes.

For myself, 12 speed a good thing as I want big range and climbing gearing from the 11-36 cassette. I can already get 11-32 and 11-34 from 11 speed. Only 105 officially supports 11-36 , So I make a choice. Either am locked into mechanical = 105 levers/RD/FD or... I am locked into Di2 = 105 RD but can choose Ultegra or Dura ace for the levers and FD. Either option allows any crankset model. I have looked at the 105 di2 levers and the buttons are unacceptably cheap, wobbly and feel terrible. So the choice becomes clearer: Either Full 105 mechanical or, ultegra Di2 with a 105 RD. That is a big price gap between those two options!!

Does anybody know SHIMANO mechanical road 11s pull ratio is compatible with Shimano mechanical road 12s?If so GRX 12s Mechanical shifter can mixed UT8000/DA9000 RD and still use 12s road cassette.

If anyone was buying mechanical and didn't by Campag Chorus 12 speed, they need their heads looked at. Its light years ahead of the rest, in fact its better than most electronic shifting in my view defo the cheap stuff. Probably the best bang for buck group set out there all things considered.

Cues uses the same linkglide tech as their e-bike groupsets so the drivetrain should be more durable than their other groupsets. Perfect for your lazy maintenance routines

to be honest, a lauf with AXS rival is $3k right now. I think we're talking more a $2k price point but that is the right take, it's to spec a bike to a price point.

If you wanted mechanical, would you spend your own money on this or would you buy one of the of Chinese 12 speed groupsets instead? Sensah or LTwoo? Or would it make even more sense to buy Sensah/LTwoo 11 speed (which are about £200) and drop the savings on better wheels?

But then frame manufacturers have to put cable housing stops back on the frames. The little companies would do this but trek, Giant and specialized won’t go back to that. It would require a new frame mold.
@davidnicholson6680
@davidnicholson6680 11 месяцев назад
I predict very few people will actually buy 105 mechanical. 105 mechanical is priced at $1200 MSRP here in the US, 105 Di2 is about $1900 MSRP. Both likely sell for less and the differential on complete bikes won't be much. Rival AXS groups can be found for less than $1500, Apex AXS is even cheaper. 105 mechanical is just too expensive to matter. I'll bet the perceived benefits of the electronic groups (easier internal routing, less post-install maintenance, push-button shifting etc) make spending the few hundred extra easily worth it for most buyers. If not, I predict the top of the range CUES will be a great option for cyclists looking for a less expensive mechanical group. Preemptively: I don't want to argue about the perceived benefits of electronic, please don't respond saying electronic is pointless.

Yes, the price is way too high. My next build will be with ltwoo erx. I already have a spare 11 speed cassette and cranks laying around. I'm personally sick of the high prices. Just because I can afford it doesn't mean I want to buy it.

When did 105 move from an entry level groupset to a mid-range groupset, and Ultegra move from a mid-range, to a Pro level groupset? I don't live near any mountains. I don't need a 34,32,30, or a 28. This is why I still ride with 7800 and a 12-25. If I was still racing, I probably have to get disc brakes, and a new bike.....Damnit.
