I really wish someone would start producing them for us. I've heard all the arguments striking the idea down and I have to disagree. I think a non-Russian or non-Chinese SVD would see massive sales. Even a US-made SVD. As long as the quality is there people will line up to buy it. I mean, if the Zastava M91 sells out at $3000 every time a batch comes in, do we really believe an SVD wouldn't?
Rob did the Fime 54R trigger and the KNS piston and was running the S&B 174 grain and he and his daughter were making hits consistently at 600+ yards. The S&B ammo is also around $2 dollars a round. 😂😂 I've also read online where a guy was running the same set up and was running the heavier Yugo surplus M80 ball rounds and was shooting 1 MOA with it. That's pretty damn good with military surplus ammo. It is advised to do the KNS piston though if you want to shoot anything over 150 grain or it will beat the rear trunion to death. With the KNS you can adjust it to bleed off some of the excess gas.
@@colddeadhand7414 stock with basic milsurp ammo? Yeah it’s a fun gun at the range but nothing to write home about. Put a little money into it with some quality ammo and it’s well worth owning
@Gunscarsguitarsandbars 😅Agreed I just did the KNS upgrade last week. Worth noting the mil surplus amo is 762x54 is cheaper than 308 right now. I have a 76 and the barrel is still like new.
I can definitely second Rob's advice to tighten the mount tension screw down hard. My PSL shipped with the 4x PSO scope from NPZ. I *thought* I'd adjusted the tension correctly when I zeroed the rifle, but when I was putting it away I noticed that the mount had just the slightest bit of play on the rail, although it had been solid when I started, barely thirty rounds of 150gr 7.62x54R earlier. So...back home, that tensioner got turned up a notch, and now the mount is solidly clamped to the rail...solidly enough that it needs bad language to help get it un-latched for cleaning the rifle.
I got a master mount kit from Rob for my Zastava AK. He even personally responded to me. I can confirm it holds zero even after taking everything apart to clean and reassembling. I wasn't sure about it at first, but Rob was right.
When you said ak master mount, the first thing I thought of were those rails that mount with the trigger pins…. I was in shock for a min until you showed it used the original side rail lol looks like a good setup!
Awesome! I still haven’t taken my PSL to the range yet, but I’ll definitely get one of these and find an optic to pair it with. I don’t mind the Russian optic it came with, but I definitely want to keep that one in good condition
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I've been shopping around for a mount like this for about a year now with no luck. Glad its from a reputable company as well.
@AkOperatorsUnion So, im a proud owner of the FEG HD 18. The svd clone. One thing ive been worried about is replacing parts over time. Do you know what parts i should look out for in the event something breaks? What are the most common parts over time that would need to be replaced?
I used the Midwest Industries ak rail (centered over bore) and picatinny mountable 8x posp 1000m on PSL. Only a little hand fitting and have had no problems.
Outstanding, video, my friend! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you for sharing it. With the right preparation and equipment, the AK based weapons are more formidable than many seem to believe. I am a big fan of the AK based platform, but prefer the milled versions above the stamped units.
S&B 174gr Red Box is shooting very well. If you want to stick to surplus ammo, look for Czechoslovakian made - it was very decent. But corrosive, so cleaning is a must.
I only run the surplus ammo. Or brown bear steel. If you get a set of calipers check the dimensions of your surplus ammo against our domestic steel and brass you'll find a lot variations in the dimensions. Brass has a habit of sticking if this happens use the cleaning rod to push the caseing out so as to NOT brake the extracter claw!!! Best to just mill surplus!!!!!
Rob id love to see you start reviewing other rifles and do runs similar to what 9-hole. Like an X95, everyone swears the tavor bullpups are innaccurate for american standards but itd be interesting to see you run an x95 with something weird like a 4x acog and a huxwrx 556k
I have a PSL, and have been constantly saying there needs to be a side-by-side video with an SVD. Scrolling through RU-vid, I saw this and was like WTF?! Turns out it was posted 10 hours ago lol
I remember them talking about it, but I'm not sure anything became of it. Keep in mind the SVD uses an out of battery safety sear (like an SKS), so that might give some problems with the ATF since that can be used as an auto trip sear....even though the SVD was only ever offered in semi auto. Yugo/Zastava M76 for example, was declared a machine gun by ATF for this very reason despite them being semi auto only. Those imported into the country had to have their receivers destroyed and replaced.
@@wirelessone2986 Also keep in mind that most of the surplus ammunition out there was designed for machine guns and not DMRs. So it has more deviation in the ballistic performance of the rounds. for best results you need to run commercial match.
RS Regulate just came out with a new dedicated mount just for the PSL, I have the old RH10 PSL mount and recently I messaged RS Regulate about my mount they said they no longer recommend the old mount for the PSL 😅
I owned a Romanian PSL rifle once, I bought a scope mount and put an American rifle scope on that rifle. It made the rifle a lot more effective! The old ass Russian garbage scope would wobble loose, had lousy glass quality and 4X was way too low for precision shooting at distances past 300 yards. Having the rifle in 308 Winchester would be a huge advantage over 7.62X54R. I would not recommend using the PSL rifle with the Russian scope. Get a scope mount and put a real scope on that rifle. You can get 2MOA or even better out of the rifle.
Hey, I’ve been a subscriber and a member of AK operators union for a while. Do you have any directions on where to find a bolt and other spare parts for saiga.308 ak
Just curious rob. I see you using a lot of master mount recently. Do you prefer master mount or RS regulate? Any particular reason you prefer one over the other?
Master Mount is one, piece construction is more rigid, Master Mount has steel reinforcements to prevent destruction from the stronger recoil (this is present even on their AK mounts), Master Mount has larger clamping surface. RS Regulate is more modular. Something for something.
hay rob just want to ask will the fpk bolt carrier fit the psl-54 i am thinking of buying one to use to upgrade my rifle by putting a adjustable gas piston in my psl-54 rifle thinks.
Vepr 54r is using usually regular AKM mount style, Choose AKM LONG for Vepr ak4774.com/product/ak-master-mount-optic-mount/ - it has steel reinforcements too
Ii got a question about zastava m91. I'm a left handed shooter and I want a optic rail that is on the top. Any recommendations? Is F.A.B Defense any good?
Good luck. Most DMR mounts do not fit the M-91 with out modification due to the relationship between the location of the side rail and the front sight.
Would this work on a Zastava M91, or is the mounting system different since it's a Yugo. I think I remember somewhere that the M91 has the same side mount as the PSL and SVD, but can't seem to find anything on it.
Clicked on video just to give my man robski a thumbs up and comment for al gore rhythm....can't watch because I want a psl bad and am sad I don't have one.😢😢 maybe when blue helmets come soon I will!!!!
On a psl, i have really weak ejection. I think its my gas. Ive checked the ejector, claw and spring (swapped out) If their a way short of drilling the berral to up the gas? I've seen the kns piston, it seem seem to only lower gas Ak team suggestions?
KNS piston won't help you with adding gas - it will make the situation even worse because KNS piston leaks gas even when fully closed (head design). I bet someone screw up gas block alignment when installing gas block on the barrel - put the borescope to the barrel and see how it lines up with the hole in the barrel. This will tell you right away...
@AkOperatorsUnion thanks for the reply ill try that. I ran wire through it and it slides easily, if when I bore scope it and it is lined up... Would it be good to open it up more? Time to call a gunsmith? Get a little crazy with a dermal tool? Sell it and pretend it never happened? It's an early build, even lebeled as a dragonov, but clearly not think it's a kit build from the 80s, got it for 1k .
@@AkOperatorsUnion awesome. I've only found one company that makes one and it's been on backorder forever and just a heads up I got one of the 20 round magazine for the psl and it runs amazing if you want to look into that for yourself
One, piece construction is more rigid, Master Mount has steel reinforcements to prevent destruction from the stronger recoil (this is present even on their AK mounts), Master Mount has larger clamping surface. Center over the bore is none issue, even if you will be slightly off center, after zeroing at 100yds, your "mechanical" cone of fire based on basic rifle precision will exceed any errors from that.
Sir I saw your video on Israel. In live people make a choice. I dont have the right to harm any one. I would never take that right. If a person harms people I love. May god forgive him or her. I wil not do so.
Hello! My RAK 308 likes the 178 gr ELDX and Varget loads! Are you fully pressing the trigger to the rear when you shoot? A light trigger pulls causes an unwanted double tap for me. I'm not use to smashing and holding a trigger press. Thank you again!!
@@AkOperatorsUnion Outdated 3 to 4 MOA rifles compared to MOA to sub-MOA capable AR10 platforms is money not well spent. The only reason SVD costs what it does is because of an importation ban. As for PSL54 - overpriced garbage.
@@Enjoyer.762 SVD or any import rifle prices - it’s artificially inflated price because of sanctions and import bans - remove those and you will have them for fracture of today’s prices. But because US firearms manufacturers didn’t like the competition, strong lobbying and stupidity of our politicians, mainly “thanks” to daddy Bush, we have rifles import ban which was beginning of the end.
Rob great news there are 7 ship's from Russia in the harbor unloading 400 million rounds of Russian made 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 being unloaded starting yesterday! The Obama block of the Ammunition is done and unconditional, and the important license and application for import license is good to go! Again the ammunition is being sent to distribution companies ASAP!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! IT is real.
Well, at this point this isn't just Obama's ban, but few years ago, massive new sanctions were added, which blanket cover everything even if Obama's sanctions were removed today...so I wouldn't hold my breath...
AK’s suck, especially since they’re not $400 anymore. And I wouldn’t expect any AK to be able to run with no malfunctions or cleaning beyond 8,000 rounds.they suck give it up already. SVD’s are even worse lol
I served in 2 branches and I'm friends with a retired Master Sargeant from the green berets...and if you said that about AK'S to him he would shut you down..did multiple combat tours and worked with indigenous forces and that's what they used.
You already know this guy doesn't know his hears from his arse...or he is thad one guy who toxic goes around looking for his fulfillment of drama online to feel like he matters somehow .
No, unfortunelty it won't work. It slides into the side rail, but then mount will hit the rear sight leaf which would prevent from going all the way in...
@@AkOperatorsUnion Which is what I am worried about will happen with the M-91. what you are describing has happened with just about every aftermarket mount that has been tried with that rifle.
