NEW WSM WHEELS & BRACES | POLY WHEELS | WSM LEG BRACES

Due to hard to roll across paver joints, I replaced the type wheels on the wsm, and to add extra strength, added stretchers between each wheel bracket so it would roll as one wheel across the pavers. The upgrade was highly successful. There is an easier way to achieve this by using flat steel stock with holes across and between each wheel. I added a picture how to do this just like fellow pitmaster Rob Weiss did his. That way is much more simple and easier which I suggest you follow if you are interested in this mod. I am well pleased with the outcome and it works great now.

Using these edger blades was brilliant. I have about three old worn ones sitting on a shelf in my garage. I doubt I will ever use them for a WSM. However, I am taking away from this video that the one day those old edger blades may find a reason to be repurposed. So I won’t throw them away yet. You worked hard it you solved your problem.

Hey Lew. Yea I've had a stack of these blades for years. Finally got to repurpose a few of them. Worked out real nice. No more problems with that thing rolling across the pavers. You didn't see it, but a lot of fitting, cutting, adjusting, and sweating. Hard on an old man. LOL Thanks for watching.

What up Chris. Yea, this type project is tedious and will test ya. Worth it in the end though. Lot of cuttin, drillin, fittin, sweatin, then doin a lot of that all over again. It all turned out good. Kinda tough on an old man. That cooker slides over the pavers now. Thanks-phil

Hey!!! When did you sneak in my garage and use my workbench? I thought something was missing! HAHAHA… Great engineering and video, Phil. My wife has hounded me for years about not being able to throw things away. I cracked up when you showed the old edger blades… ‘cause I have a stack too! You know how it goes… “I might need’em for something someday”! HAHA… I loved this…

Hahaha, I just had a big laugh as I read your post out loud to Janet. Treasures and Keepery piled up in my shop room has been a Co main topic of discussion along with the Socialistic anti-American Congress who want to destroy this country. Kinda important and a sense of urgency. That's why you didn't see any panning around of the camera. LLLL. More to this story later. The gloves are on. LOL Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed. Have a great weekend Grumpus.

Hey there Lasse. I learned: Things aren't as easy to do as they use to be, my shop needed cleaning up, the weather is still hot, I didn't know my cooker had 3 legs not 4, Drill low rpm and apply lots of pressure on hard steel, and there is an easier way to do something. LOL Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it.

Great Video, It helped understand that the WSM can be modified with wheels. My dilemma now is which one to purchase? The Webber SMCS (22") or the Pitt Barrel Jr. Prime? Funny thing is I see you have both in your fore ground. Smoking Meat and Veggies is so addicting. Thanks Again!

@SmokinJoesBBQ 4 года назад
HEY PHIL, man that was a awesome video my friend, that was a fantastic idea to cross brace the WSM to have it better role across your pavers, it was a lot of work but in the end it payed off for you, I would like to try that idea but I really don't have a problem on my wood deck. I need to do some modifications to some of my toys and that is what I liked about being an electrician not bragging, but I am fairly mechanically inclined like you are but never showed my skills on camera. Maybe you will see me in action one day LOL.!! AWESOME JOB MY FRIEND. GOD BLESS YOU AND JANET.
@progers5019
@progers5019 4 года назад
Yea, this is not something all wsm owners need to do. If you don't move your cooker, or either you have a smooth surface this ones not for you. Thanks for watching. Let me see you pound on something and jerk some wire. lol

Hey Phil! I enjoy watching your Metal Skills! Your work bench looks like it has many projects going on. :-) Sure you took the long way to get there..... but you got there and I personally like the larger smooth rolling wheels! It only makes sense to do a Mod like this for rough terrain......Chris at CB needs to watch this! Metal On My Friend!
@progers5019
@progers5019 4 года назад
hahaha, work bench lots of projects going on. Well, when the kitchen was remodeled, there was a shifting in junk from one room to another into the gagage, then into the shop room. We just got done cleaning out all the junk in the garage. Had to buy and install some storage bins and cabinets to put all the junk we didn't either throw away, give away, or keep. Since the beginning of this video, the shop started out full of junk, then just two days ago, Janet went out and began boxing up all my stuff to get me motivated. When I couldn't find my bits, blades, and some other stuff to finish the video, I decided to get involved. lol A work in progress. Still got a lot to let go. You know some of that stuff is 45 years old that just won't leave. I love my new wheels and braces. That wsm doesn't hesitate crossing over the pavers now.

Is this the Pitmaster that came up with large offset Guru to get your flame going, you need to add software to keep temp where you want it, not to mention logg feeder to keep Firefox topped off, I see where Weber is going to be coming out with pellet grill can hardly wait to see what you have in mind for that pit. Guru on\🤘/.

Wow! You do it right big boy. Are you going to add cruise control next? Ha! Now you are a machinist/cook. When are we going to build your gazebo?...working with wood is easier than metal ya know. Oh. what did you do with the 4th wheel? Enjoyed your mod...get ur done!
@progers5019
@progers5019 4 года назад
Hey Mike. I began with a simple fix but the more I worked on it, the more I worked on it. The larger wheels were an improvement, but did not give me what I wanted. So, off I go to tie the legs and wheels together to make it one when you grab the cooker and push or pull it. Now the paver joints are not an issue. Still in the same place on the shelter whatever that may be.

Phil I could just say thanks for Sharing, but I'm not. After watching your video's and Introduction, makes me wonder is it the fact Janet is spinnin you too quick, or is it the PIF finest bottled and aged. Where you come up with your latest and greatest Ideas. Next what are you edging where you can wear down a blade like that, like the wsm Jack while your doing reconstruction, aka paver. My wsm still in garage waiting to make it's debut, I'm still trying to use all the accessories for Weber Kettle, I'm saving Wsm for large long cooks and then try hangin some ribs. Your very handy, I was thinking I might have to grill in the garage, poor a smooth cement pad or just move to a more pit friendly home. One reason I say this my vise is not like your vise I'm still have to medicate myself thinking of my experience with shelf brackets 😃, Couldn't get the ole pin to pop. In closing nice job, your replacing Batman as my new hero. P.S. I liked the galvanized pipe look as to paint. In some up coming video you will have to show us old smokers how to clean the grill grates if your only doing low and slow, do I just have to break down and have hot sear so I can get grates respectable again.
@progers5019
@progers5019 4 года назад
Well, Janet does spin me so it plays out in my vids. Holy Batman Robin, what's next? I noticed in some pics you have lot more pavers than I have on that half acre pavered patio. Just go with the single stud wheel and the metal band material. That is pretty easy. You can roll the wsm across, just need to go slow and lift up when you feel it stick in a groove. I prolly won't paint the pipe until I see any rust beginning. Grill Grates. I find it's best to clean them soon after using, like the next day. (too tired and worn out after the cook) There is clean, then there is shiny clean. I just scrape off with a spatula, then brush off with a wire brush, then clean with a rag or several paper towels, wet ones then dry ones. Then hit it with some PAM. Thanks for watching John and your support to the PIF channel.

Mikey, when you use the vortex, it's generally not a low n slow, and the vents are 100% open. Mine is inches at the top and 12 inches across the bottom. I love using it with wings. Ry over at Cooking with Ry has a lot of cooks using the Vortex. Check it out.
