A brief history of the former Orphanage, Mental Hospital and Asylum in Newsham Park in Liverpool. This is not a ghost hunt, just a look at one of Liverpool's outstanding buildings which is in an abandoned state. Also a look at the beautiful park in Autumn 2021.

Really good video - thanks so much for sharing. I lived in Clubmoor in my early years and later moved to Woolton. My friend and I used to be allowed to play in Newsham Park when I was aged 7 in 1955. I was told by my mother not to talk to anyone I didn't know and NEVER to climb over the railings around the pond! Sound advice - but things were so safe then. There was a 'Parky' or 'Cockywatchman' that used to patrol the park in those days looking after the park itself and making sure no-one got into any trouble. Those were the days! Much more freedom for kids than today.

I recently found your channel and find it very entertaining. As a young lad in the 50's my mother took me shopping along West Derby Road as we lived just off it. She used to shop in the butcher's there as it was our main shopping area. My grandmother passed in that hospital in the 80's, sad times, but I have many happy memories of both parks off West Derby Road, thank you for this video it was heartwarming. 👍✌💗

My mates Dad had a butchers shop on West Derby Road called Neville Smith Butcher, when my mate also called Neville joined him ( which he didn't really want to do) it became "and son'.

As a scouser I was born in Mill Road hospital in the 40's and lived in a street off boaler Street behind the Palladium Cinema so Newsham Park was the one of our to go to places also Sheil Park now gone, that had thee swings. At the time the larger lake had rowing boats for hire at quite a low price so us children would club our pocket money together and hire a boat all lying about our ages. The smaller lake was for pond yachts also quite shallow this being a good thing because we where always being pushed in. As for the hospital we did climb the walls and have a wander around the grounds but there was something about the place we did not like other than being chased by some one who saw us there, I left Liverpool in my early twenties so I do enjoy your wanderings with the camera thank you for tour efforts much appreciated

I was born in Mill Road Hospital in 1951 and lived off West Derby Road in Boundary Lane ( where Ogden's was ) my sister lived in Mirfield Street, you may know it. I miss those times and the area it has many fond memories for me. Both parks were my playground and we also hired a rowing boat many times. Happy Days weren't they? ✌💗

@@susanmason6476 Thankyou ever so much. I also wish you the same, I do hope your memories of childhood in Liverpool were as good as the ones I have and of course the not so good ones are intentionally forgotten about.

Great information about this fantastic building . I often visit newsham park . My wife’s grandad died in newsham hospital . Think it was 1984. I always remember how dark it was in there. But an incredible building .

Looks like exactly the same build as woolton convalescent home in woolton woods. Now woolton grange nursing home. That’s haunted too. Great video 👏🏻

I imagine it is. Can only catch glimpses of it these days from the woods, shame it's lost for most to see. Glad you liked the video!

Hi Jeff Altthough I concider myself a ( Swanite) I was acctually born between Derby Lane and Green Lane, which came under Tuebrook which came under Everton ? as on my Birth Certificate . However to get to the point I spent a lot of my earlier years around Newsham Park , and I seem to recall that there was the ruins of a Windmill at the end of the lake to the left of the Building you have Just shown. If I recall according to history way back in time there were lots of Windmills around the Merseyside and Wirral areas.
@Jeff1photo
@Jeff1photo Год назад
That's interesting. Yes I know Woolton had at least one Windmill, and probably two at one point in history. Lots of farmland I suppose before these places became populated and built upon. Boundaries have changed over the years. I didn't know Tuebrook was part of Everton but I wouldn't doubt it.

Jeff, is Derby prounounced DARBY o DERBY? A or E? Here in the USA it's with an e. Football Derby I hear British say with a...Derby. I'm watching live from Los Angeles Everton vs Liverpool Derby Match!
@Jeff1photo
@Jeff1photo 2 года назад
Derby as in West Derby Road is pronounced Darby with an A. Derby match between Everton and Liverpool also pronounced Darby with an A. Darby match. So many regional accents, I guess some areas pronounce it Derby with an E. Wiki page for Derby the city in the Midlands, home to Derby County Football club states. Derby is pronounced (DAR bee) and the football club states (Darbi). So different spelling. But both state Derby pronounced with an A. Snowed here on Sunday, and overnight last night, I thought of you in your shorts, you'd love it here, every day a different day. 4-1 wow Agent Benitez!
