They need to bring this back. We been cheated from this competition. I am sure plenty of players would love to showcase their speed. It’s like the dunk contest.
Wish they had this in the 70s when I was a youngster. We had some fast players, but not like these guys. We had: Cliff Branch, Mel Gray, Roy "Jetsream" Green, Isaac Curtis, Johnnie "Lam" Jones and Wesley Walker, Curtis Dickey, Wes Chandler and John Jefferson.
@@joeschmo5021 Roy green West Chandler and John Jefferson Are not in the same class as the other guys you mentioned. And those guys were just as fast as these players were statistically possibly faster.
*This was actually the 1986 NFL's Fastest Man Competition, not 1984. Thanks for uploading this classic which I haven't seen since it originally aired. And some of the guys here are laughably out of place: Anthony Carter?! Vance Johnson, Eddie Brown, etc.
This was the first of 4 NFL Fastest Man competitions that Green won. He finished undefeated & after winning his final one, at age 31, said: “ This is my final race. I’m going to give somebody else a chance to win”…lol A drop the mic statement…🖐🏾🎤 Btw, this was 1986, not ‘84…😎
Right, right your right on the year that's the same thing I was thinking. Cause we won the Super Bowl in the 1985/86 season and this was the summer of 1986.
Its actually 1986 the first one. Thanks for posting. Does anyone have the 1988 one. It features. Mark Duper. Darrell Green Vance Johnson. Haywood Jeffries. Ricky Nattiel. Rod Woodson to name a few. I had it on video but lost it in the 92 hurricane in Miami.
Much respect I have been searching RU-vid for year trying to find this,if you find 1986 NFL fastest man with Herschel Walker that would be awesome! Thank again!
I think DG just needed a little more coaching on his stride to really burn the 100..but 10.08 is still pretty dam fast in the 100....I see alot of the NFL players now have pretty quick 40 times but their 100 time is no where near Greens, he was all-around fast..from behind, on the field, on the track..I used to just watch the Skins to watch him play!
@@kennyeverett318 definitely. One of the top 5 fastest ever for sure. Definitely couldve competed in the Olympics if he trained for it. I'd love to see him race jett or galloway though
Green ran faster times in the 100 as well with less experience and Trindon Holliday, Curtis Dickey and Rocket Ismail would be untouchable in a 40-60 race
@@croplaya I definitely do he ran 23 races in his career and lost once by a hundreth of a second, he beat Jett all 3 times they raced in College despite very limited practice as a Track guy and Galloway ran a 10.71 as a Sr and Rocket ran 10.41....In '91 Rocket had the World's Fastest 55m time up until April with a 6.07....Galloway wasnt close after 35-40 yds and Jett was much more experience in Track so he would take over around 85 meters but was an excellent 200 meter runner.
Anthony Carter played in the USFL from 1983-1985 (Michigan Panthers and Oakland Invaders). Are you sure this event was held in 1984? The video references AC playing for the Vikings which happened in 1985 after the USFL folded.
its said that darrell greene once challanged deion primetime sanders to a race twice, but primetime declined the challanged, because deion would have got smoked
@@croplaya Flipper Anderson, Hunter Smith Michael Haynes, Randy Moss to name a few as well as ALL the Raiders receivers who had a noodle armed Hostetler underthrowing it 3-5 yds every time
During the countdown of the NFL’s all time 100 greatest players, Carl Lewis did the intro for Daryl Green & let it be known that Green NEVER beat him…lol 🏈
Y’all forget and bye y’all I mean you just because you ran against a great sprinter doesn’t make you one. Y’all do know that in college he lost to Willie Gault in the hundred both times they raced.
This looks like 1986, if I am not mistaken. If it is, this is the competition where Green had not eaten in 24 hours and had a 102 degree fever the night before.
You are correct about The track being faster than grass. What you don’t take into account is that all official 60s are done indoors. This is outdoors and was wind aided considerably. They were notorious for running whichever way the wind was blowing. So what they lost in track footing They made up for in wind.
No way, if there's any difference, then some 0.02 second, but it depends on the quality of the grass track! Over 100 m artificial tracks are a 0.04 second "faster" than cinders!
@@johnnwako2488 artificial tracks are only four 100th of a second faster than cinders? where in the hell did you get that nonsense. It was considerably more than that.
@@ryangulley2051 I don’t think Ross could run a 4.22 anymore. Moreover, it’s more so he just put together a perfect run at the combine than it is him consistently being able to run that fast. His game speed is also lacking.
He’s only fastest because of his abnormal long strides. Definitely wasn’t the quickest within 30-40 yards on the field. But boy could he fly. I once saw a race by Jim brown and franco harris in tv around 1980.. brown was close to 50 and franco smoked him. They were very competitive before the race. Talking real trash.
There was another world class speedster in the NFL in the early to mid 80's named Renald "Skeets" Nehemiah. He played for the 49ers. You can find him competing in the "Superstars" competition videos here on RU-vid.
Green still would’ve smoked both of them. Bo’s best time in the 60 yd dash was 6.19. Green’s was 6.09. In the 100 meters: Bo:10.39. Deion: 10.23. No documented time for the 60. Green: 10.08.
He caught Dorsett from an angle, to which many forget Dorsett gave it a go for that game with the sprained ankle, but Darrell showed he was the new sheriff in town that Monday night, and he caught Dickerson from straight behind, but he didn’t catch Herschel. Herschel beat Darrell twice in the 100 yard dash in the NFLs superstars competition.
@@TruthProvidedRemnant Herschel never beat Darrell Green in a race period. If you go to Herschel Walkers highlights here on youtube you will see Green catching Walker on a "angle" but he still got em.
@@kennyeverett318 I respectfully disagree bc in college Phillip was a track star as well and held the record at tcu for years but who knows it was a great race which should have been the finals lol
