Nick Wright and Cris Carter discuss the benching of New York Giants quarterback for quarterback Daniel Jones and if Eli should request to be traded instead of mentoring the rookie. Eli has a no trade clause in his contract and has previously expressed no interest in playing for another team.

I would have to agree with Chris about the competition for QB1... Eli didn't get a fair chance to play for 3-4 weeks? Adrian McCoy you can also look at situations where the starter won like brady/garrapolo maybe eli thought he could hold him off like brady did, why is it so hard for people to realize that these professional athletes dont look at things like normal people man, especially when your an elite athlete you develop the mindset that you can do anything or beat the odds so eli probably just looked at this as another challenge for him 🤷‍♂️

Adrian McCoy 🤦‍♂️bro what cc is saying is that is wasn’t obvious that daniel jones was better because if it was THAN HE WOULD HAVE BEAT HIM OUT FOR THE JOB IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, so eli isn’t seeing someone in practice who is clearly better than him he’s seeing someone that he feels he is still better than at this point, and even beyond that you cant expect these athletes to see that even if it is true these guys are delusional about their own abilities man thats how they got to where they are

In CC mind athletes can't be replaced and to entertain the idea that they are dispensable after 14 yrs in the league is the biggest insult. Athletes are such divas these days, grow up! Welcome to the real world where if you're no longer capable of doing your job you are replaced.

Here we go again, Cris thinking that just cause he played that his points are valid and Nick’s aren’t. Nick made a great point. After the atrocious season last year, Eli DEFINITELY should have seen this coming. Then they drafted Daniel Jones, confirming they were nearing transition. Cris just called this dude a “superstar” when Eli hasn’t played up to that level in a few seasons. His time’s done.

Hear me out on this because you have to consider what Nick witness from his favorite team. I know Alex Smith is not on Eli's level, but once they drafted Patrick Mahomes, Alex knee his job was about to be taken. He prepared mentally and also did his part to help Mahomes develop. His point is that you don't draft a QB in the top ten to not start at some point. Everyone knows that but CC wants to compare all scenarios to his from 20+ years ago as a WR

CC comes off as completely unobjective and seems to give Eli's performance WAY more credit than he deserves. The Giants have gone above and beyond what most teams would do in response to (at best) average quarterback play. If Eli didn't expect to be benched at some point in the near future, then he's incredibly naive and lacks self-awareness. They've been a bad football team for years, and any other team would have changed QBs far sooner than now.

Chris’s dumbest take to date...when you play as well as Eli. Excuse me? He’s started 232 games, that’s not a small sample size. Aside from a couple seasons where he was really good (not elite, not even great) and a couple games where he was unbelievable, he’s been bottom tier to average. If Eli had any self awareness, then he saw this coming 3 seasons ago

Eli is 116 and 116. It's time. Better now than let it dip to below .500. It's been time for several seasons. Staying on to mentor Daniel Jones is something that he can do and it's really not so surprising. It's been a downhill slump for several years now For Elia and the Giants, but you can't take the two Super Bowls they won from them.

Im sick of people saying the phrase, "played as well as he has" in relation to Eli Manning. He is an average QB who had 2 incredible playoff runs. Quit trying to make it out like he has been one of the best QB's of his generation. Eli did have a chance this year, he didn't show anything, he can't move, can't throw with velocity, can't be a force multiplier, period. I am sure he is a great guy, nothing but hope that he lives the rest of his life happily, but this move has been a long time coming. Also, Chris Carter needs to quit using the argument from authority, just because you played doesn't mean you know everything. Holy cow.

Dear FS1 First Things First, Jenna Wolfe, Nick Wright & Pro Football Hall of Famer, Cris Carter: Eli is experiencing what is known as a "right to work environment" No need to take it personally. This is how the real world works. In fact, Eli is only doing what Eli does in his Football camps every year which is help players understand the Quarterback position. So in conclusion: Cris Carter don't get your pants in a bunch over this "real life reality". #AppreciateYaFirstThingsFirst

The giants have stuck with Eli waaaay beyond what was reasonable. He’s been really, really bad for quite some time. Where the giants went wrong is not getting his replacement at least 2 years ago. Yes, you can fault them for saying he’d play another 2 years. But I really believe they were surprised Jones looked as good as he did in preseason. They should’ve been honest with Eli after preseason that they were going to want to see what this guy can do sooner rather than later.

I watched the Dallas-Giants game replays. Manning can still make the throws, he still has zip on his throws, and can still throw the long balls. The fact is, Dallas is a much better team. The Giant's coverage was not very good. Maybe the Giants decided to replace Manning, but I don't know if that will make anything better.
