The Shaman is the knife that I carry 90% of the time. It's freaking amazing. The only problem it's caused is my wife asking why I keep buying knives if I carry the same one all the time.

As a sheer coincidence, I bought a M4 Shaman a couple of weeks ago. Micarta scales. I usually prefer a smaller knife, then I got a Manix 2 and liked it a lot. Same with a PM2. Decided to try out the Shaman and don't mind telling you that I'm impressed. Love the thing.

Jade scales tend to be one of those love or hate things. I love mine.

So this knife. I set my email to be sent when it was ready, and had the web page loaded for it and had it all ready to go. It got released, in my time zone of EST, at 12 noon. I was working and had my mind on other things until about 1223, twenty three minutes later, I had remembered and went to buy it but it was fully sold out. So just a minute ago I did a check on eBay because I kinda wanted a regular shaman and wanted to see their prices. It’s awash with the BladeHQ M4 variant going to $325, $250, etc. That is deeply ugly. It appears that people solely bought it for resale value, rather than to buy it to be used. I wanted to try out M4 as a steel in an every day carry situation where I carry it and use it on a physical job. But I couldn’t due to scalpers, and that’s disheartening.

God this made me want to cry. I LOVE the Jade G10 scales and would love to have one! I missed all the sprint runs in them and they don’t appear to ever be going to make any more.

Regardless of whether you like the color of the scales, or the knife, the issue is moot. Blade HQ sold out within 45 min. of the release. Ugly.

Some rit dye powder, just a hint, In the steel pot boil and tint; Tie of zip and spyder hide, Ass of Jack and Shaman side, HQ's Jade and M4 Steel, L-B-H and Shabazz zeal, For a scale of powerful trouble Like a dye bath boil and bubble. Double, double toil and trouble; Stovetop burn and steel pot bubble. Make the scale look as it should, Then the knife is blue and good.

I'm going to pick one up as soon as it's for sale. I'm a bit worried it's too similar to the PM2 which I own and love.

Picked up one on the secondary market. Fantastic knife. My first Spyderco since my 94 Proventor. I would not have liked the scales if they weren't translucent. I think the see through makes it kinda cool.

The Jade G10 scales look good to me, and look even better with a black DLC blade and hardware. I was able to snag both the satin and DLC M4 versions of the BHQ Shaman. By the way, when you dye do you use the whole box of RIT dye for a small job like this? Or can you just use part of it?

every time i hear him say it wrong... i can't take it. even the guy on the spyderco channel says it the way everyone else should. i'm not gonna groan and gripe about his pronunciation, but just remember that spyderco has the final say on how it's said, so... nvm idk why i'm complaining about why he says it the way he does, you do you nick

That's a fantastic improvement! I too like the Shaman and only bought one because of the Nick Gem rating. The only issue I have is that the choil pecker on the blade hits my finger upon closing when I disengage the compression lock. I'll need to send it off to razors edge for correction if the Shaman ever makes into my heavy carry rotation. But why spyderco....why?

Still need to get one of those. I know you don't review MT because of the hardware. But, the Socom Elite uses all torx. I like small knives but the SE is close to perfect. It's a beast with a T20 pivot, highest grade aluminum, huge liner lock. It's light for the size and carries well.

Issue with dying G-10 (as opposed to FRN or other scale materials) is that G-10 is non-porous. So you're only getting the top layer (which is why you can still see the jade when the flashlight shines though) and, depending on how much wear and tear you put on your knives, you'll start getting ugly spots where that top layer has gotten scratched up or worn down. You can always re-dye, but the finish will be a little uneven. This is why I generally prefer after-market scales to RIT dying G-10. But, if you don't put that much wear and tear on it or don't mind re-dying or unevenness, it works. Also, adding a little bit of white vinegar to the powdered RIT helps.

As a person whom just got into the hobby within the past few months... my jealousy is depressing, lmfao. I can't even get a _normal_ Shaman (s30v, Satin, standard black g-10) for less than $250, and that's via Omaha Knives, Scheels, or Ebay. None of the usual suspects have this knife in stock at the original price point. That I wasn't around to even KNOW that a sprint run of this thing in M4 actualy happened? UGH. If only I'd known how awesome this hobby could be in 2019!

Worth saying....that modding pocket knvies might not go as planed especially if it's your first time disassembling a pocket-knife. Not the most compliated "tool" but there are "small things a newbie" might not know and overlook...having had no experiened/superviseed by a "professional"...just having watched the odd YT video...where you can barely see what's going on sometimes. Add some might only plan on modding one knife....or none at all. IMHO...it's better to save up and buy the "premier version" of that knife already with CF/S90V...or Alu/K390 steel...from the factory or from a shop with an "exclusive LTED run"...or a "sprint run" from the knife company....plus you void the warranty. This is an item that "spends most of it's life in our pockets..." :))

Get that Wiha/Boker stubby torx driver from knives and tools website. Its only £11 plus £3 odd shipping. Its really nice quality. It works great in my Spyderco knives. Comes with 7 Wiha torx bits. Magnetic holder.

Ooooh, thinking about doing this to my tan civivi praxis because after carrying it for a week, my jeans have died a blue line across the g10 from where it rides in my pocket.

You know what's not great? Screwing up a perfectly fine 0560. Not a good day. But, lots of lessons learned. It was a sad state.

Just bought a Shaman and my first mod is going to be to remove the nub. For the life of me, I cannot see how that design choice made it past testing.

M4 is a little overrated, especially in a folder. I'd prefer something a little more stain resistant.

I'm not a fan of the jade g10 either. Hoping I can snag one anyway..scales can be fixed or swapped as you've obviously proven.

IF I had the option, every g10 scaled knife I owned would be the jade... I must be part of the tiny minority that actually likes that color

If they made a Salty LC200N Shaman, they’d have my money instantly. Admittedly, M4 is a far more fitting choice on the current Shaman platform.

I love the "Go in the other room and die" bit. I can just imgaine a To-Do List for today and at the end just "Go into the other room and die." Just walk into the other room and collaspe as if someone flipped a switch.

The original color was hideous in my opinion, but I kind of want to buy a knife in that color just to try dying the scales. It turned out really well. I had no idea you could do that.

Can anyone explain why spyderco knives are so much more expensive now? I went to buy a delica last night, and it's almost twice the price as my last one.

I like the Jade G10 look on my BHQ Manix 2 quite a bit, but it always looked off on the Shaman. I think it was chiefly the 3d machining along the sides that made the Jade G10 on the Shaman so off-putting. Looks far better on flat scales.

I've avoided blades with the jade g10. It just doesn't catch my eye at all. I remember when you put the black vinegar patina on your opinel. I always think of that whenever I get the idea to do something on my own.

Well that sold out fast... Bummer! I actually really like the black-on-black DLC variant, but the M4 for $10 *less* is a no-brainier. Would love to see DLC on a nicer steel for the next sprint run.

Nick, bro, you are lucky. Perhaps it is a disproportionate belief in fair play, but I have told my beautiful, faithful, loving wife that I am worth much more dead than alive. She hasn't stabbed me yet. And, for some strange reason, that makes me paranoid. And add into her belief in VG-10 and my strong preference for Bohler M390, 20CV, and CTS 204, I am surprised at this point that blood hasn't been drawn. Anyway, I am stoked for the Shaman in M4. I have been considering the Bradley in M4 as I have only one knife with any kind of toughness. I have been considering the super freek as well, but I prefer the compression lock to the axis lock. And both knives are price comparable.

Now that’s a nice Shaman!!! I’m an HVAC tech and EDC the Shaman S30V and it kicked the ZT0562 out of the pocket.

i avoid bladeHQ. and jade G10. other vendors are going to make better versions than this. ill hold off for them.

Woah, didn't think you'd have a video up that quick...For the record, I still think the Caribbean is the natural evolution of the PM2. Only issues being social stigma and local laws, neither of which are an issue for me.

I got a look at these compression lock ! and they use the liner lock as a block like the triad lock and being on the back you don't have to put your finger in the guillotine ! now that should be a very strong lock ! I was thinking they were regular liner locks just on the top ! have to take another lock at these !.
