Nike Alphafly 3 at 500 Miles

Updated thoughts on the Nike Alphafly 3 now that I have over 500 miles on my pair. I have run two full marathons in them and ran more than 50 consecutive days of training runs.
Disclosure - I am partnered with Nike Running and these shoes have been sent to me in conjunction with this partnership.

After using the AF V3 on three shorter marathon pace workouts, I'm absolutely in love with the shoe. And comfortable....WOW, I don't even notice it on my foot. It's so smooth, stable, and light. Still trying to quantify data I am seeing that shows my HR on in the AF V3 is consistently 2-5BPM lower compared to the AF V1, V2 and Tempo Next%. Which has to be the reduced weight without sacrificing any of the main characteristics of ZoomX and the airpods. Throw in the potential longevity of the shoe...and Nike might have over built it! Time will tell. Keep up the content!

Wow, that's a lot lower if it's the same pace! 🤯

Just subscribed. Awesome review. I'm not able to use the AF1 and AF2 due to the arch issues and so super happy now that I can actually use the AF3. Finally managed to buy a pair last week after always sold out. Managed one run - it was awesome but back in the box they go 😢 due to the price. Can't wait for race day.

Amazing that they held up that well after 500 miles. Wonder how they feel compared to a fresh pair now.

They still feel pretty good, but not quite like a fresh pair. I had no problems running Houston in them though!

That’s an incredibly durable Super Shoe. How much of that do you attribute to a more consistent and efficient running technique? I’m a middle of the pack runner at best but I’m still excited to get a pair of Alphafly 3s when they launch to use for my Interval Sessions and upcoming Half-Marathons and eventually a Full Marathon. Keep up the great work Ben!

Did Nike remove the "NEXT%" designation because the Alphafly 3 does not have more energy return than the Nike Alphafly 2 NEXT%? Every single Nike Vaporfly or Alphafly shoe has had a 4% or NEXT% designation in official Nike documentation until the Alphafly 3.
@benjohnson763
@benjohnson763 8 месяцев назад
This rumor seems to be going around. I was going to make a video about it soon. 👍
@LearningFast
@LearningFast 8 месяцев назад
@@benjohnson763 it does say NEXT% on the sticker on the box but honestly that could just be the Chinese manufacturer not knowing that they had removed that name. It definitely doesn’t have the energy return of the other Vaporfly or Alphafly shoes. I was able to measure that difference with my Strydpods. However, the difference is small. The light weight more than makes up for the slight difference in energy return. They are trading energy return for weight and it really makes the AF3 better than anything else before it.

I think the biggest miracle is how they still look so clean! Mine wouldn't be this clean after 500 miles even exclusively on a treadmill 😅.

Thanks for the info…so when would you retire these shoes? 500 miles seems pretty awesome just wondering how far you will push them. Would you do another race (any distance) in them?
@JMC2727
@JMC2727 8 месяцев назад
I took my alpha fly v1s to just over 1000km and only stopped wearing them because I popped one of the pods in the right shoe. I think the foam could have kept going for another 200km.
@zixednatz
@zixednatz 2 месяца назад
@@JMC2727my AF1 also popped at 1,100kms. So that could be the airpod's limit. I returned it to nike and got a refund. Apparently they have warranty up to 2years. Great customer service. So after 2 iterations, im hoping they've improved the durability for AF3.

Enjoyed the vid. I run only slightly slower than you at 56 yo and assume we put the same force into our foot plant. How you get this mileage out of the shoe is amazing. My 3 pairs of V1 lasted about 150 miles before the sole and upper started becoming detached. Might be the tropics and I am a HEAVY!!! sweater. I have a pair of V1 at 430 that would take a close look to determine they are an AF because of all the repairs and holes. I have noticed that a pair I've worn through the cool season might make it to 200 miles before I'll be adding glue to something after every run.
@tgibridays
@tgibridays 8 месяцев назад
That's super impressive mileage. I've always been a bit skeptical of most reviewers durability estimates. But I'm also guessing you're more of a forefoot striker with good running form/economy which probably also helps the longevity. How has the durability of these compared to the vaporflys or the previous versions of the Alphaflys?
@benjohnson763
@benjohnson763 8 месяцев назад
I would agree that my foot strike doesn't normally cause excessive wear, but I found that the forefoot rubber on the Alphafly 1 and Vaporfly Next 1 and 2 was much softer and wore down more quickly. The exposed ZoomX on the Vaporfly 3 and Alphafly 2 scuffed much more than on the Alphafly 3.

Wow! This pair looks almost new after 500 miles! I've got 400 miles with my Nike Vaporfly Fllyknit before I retired them My AF 1 have only 105 miles though and my VF 1 and 2 only 254 and 165 km respectively but all of them are still in excellent condition.

Hey ben, great review and great recap on the marathon. I’ve found your IG a little of a month ago and when you started your channel and said that you work and have time to run, train, live with your family and run marathon? It inspired more because i always think that i have no time. Again, good luck and great video as always!!

I am partnered with them. I am free to share my experiences even if they're not unanimously positive. Ideally my content can help build excitement (which is very easy for me to create when I love a product), but even if it doesn't work for me, don't expect me to just trash it. My primary objectives are to create awareness and understanding of the products so that potential users can be best informed when deciding what to get.

@@benjohnson763 Thanks for the honesty, I share your excitement with the Alpha/vapor fly's for sure. I hope Nike get back on track with the daily trainer market after a few uninspiring years. Fingers crossed the peg turbo changes that, as the the turbo nature, peg 39/40 and invincible 3 were less exciting developments. Maybe you need a scale of excitement in the future🙂

The Alphafly never had this. Only the Vaporfly.
@TheSiameseDreamer
@TheSiameseDreamer 8 месяцев назад
@@benjohnson763 Though not as pronounced as the Vaporfly, the Alphafly features asymmetrical lacing. The lacing structure curves slightly towards the lateral side of the foot. By arranging the lacing this way, the top of the foot gets less pressure. That is from WearTesters

Mine fall apart after 150 usually. I live in the tropics, HEAVY sweater and run only harder sessions which are around 5:50/mile. I can get them to 400 miles with repairs after almost every run. My guess is it is the water that causes the sole or upper detachment.
