Nikon D600 / D610 REVIEW : Second Hand Buying 2016 

Well my D610 cost $1,408 Australian, brand new, after the Nikon rebate about 9 mths ago, and I just bought a second-hand one for $850. I find the layout much easier than my olympus EM-1, touted as a "professional" body, which I've since sold. For the size, weight and price I think the D610 is outstanding value ! I rarely use live view (only for checking focus on landscape shots with a tripod), never use back button focus and so far have no complaints. The menu is logical, the user manual is very detailed and the buttons are "intuitive". I mean press the button, turn the dial, look at the screen. Olympus could learn a thing or two from that. If some of the better nikon bodies are even better, then wow ! But just for now this is all the camera I need, I'll focus on memorising the layout of the buttons so that I can concentrate on creating amazing images... Hope you find a body you're happy with soon Dom .. :-)

cant believe im wasting the time , but difference in exposure is due to operator error , instruction manual says to use viewfinder eye piece cover in live mode , not using it changes the amount of light reaching sensor, the difference in settings between vid and pic mode is obvious i.e. change your vid mode and watch it change again, f.y.i. vid input changes with frames per , meaning settings for pic WILL vary from vid depending on vid record levels to maintain proper exposure , best advise leave the pro cameras to the big boys and stick to your toy canons .......just sayin..............

I love AF back button and then no focus on shutterbutton, only exposure meatering. However, it should perhaps be a function for the user to choose, i think its possible to have it like "you want it" on the D7200 with a separate function for shutterbutton halfpress.

Nikon eventually began replacing the shutter FOC, don't know if they still are: no problems on mine. The video and aperture thing I knew about, think they sorted it on the D750, but I don't use video anyway - not at the moment anyway. I like back focus, no problem not having the focus on half press of shutter button. I guess the other things are frustrating if you've used lots of other cameras that don't have these flaws. For me its my first camera so I have nothing to compare it to but can't say as I've noticed them and I can live with them for all its other strengths sensor, focusing and price. I would like the slightly better low light capability of the D750. Think I paid £600ish for my used D600 and it had less than 10k shutter actuations. I might have gone for the D750 if the screen was fully articulating and wasn't quite so expensive - it was still brand new at the time I got the D600. Good review, thanks.

I noticed that Nikon is known to cripple lower end cameras... Example all the things you mentioned are software/firmware modifications that nikon just simply removes.. One that bothers me is the Kelvin settings.. jumping to odd numbers instead of just a simple progression... say.. 2700 to 2710.... they cripple it by jumping huge blocks like 2700... 3200...3560... and so on... fine adjustments can only be found in their highend models....

I see u are using a Tamron 24-70 VC g1 lens. Would u recommend buying one in 2019 especially it's now going for about $500-600 used from a good store with warranty. I am not a professional but would like your views on the lens.

I LOVE my D610. Except the sensor is constantly getting those oil blotches on it, even though they said it had been resolved.

I agree the sensor might be brilliant but the OS that nikon designed for it is the most horrible camera OS ever. Is there like a magic lantern or something for nikon? it might help overcome this bullshit
