The contrast between the innocent children’s voices, the sweet melody, and the deadly seriousness, the underlying danger, was chilling. The music playing on the ski chase was brilliant, carries the danger and adventure and excitement.

This song is very sad. Just listening to it without seeing the film, you think it's just a nice and pleasant Christmas song but if you watch the scene in the OHMSS where it plays, it conjures up a lot of sadness - the bad guys are hunting down Bond with a view to killing him. The line in the song that goes "most of all they need love" reminds us that no matter how successful you are in material terms, you'll always feel that something is missing. That is unconditional love.

First saw OHMSS as an ITV British t.v. premiere in the late seventies as a kid, I already saw The Spy Who Loved Me in the cinema, BUT this movie got to me in a personal way.It's the first time I was hit by a movie in an emotional way. Needless to say it's become my favourite Bond movie because of obvious reasons.

When John Barry writes a simple Christmas song, it isn't simple. Playing this you are going to need to know all the chords. Worth it though.

A great 007 On Her 1:00 Majesty’s Secret Service movie circa 1969, IMHO one of the best Bond movies which closed out the Swinging 1960s. No gadgets and 077 finally falls in love! Great skiing scenes.

this song is usually completely lost in the OHMSS soundtrack, having so many great tracks. But I got a really soft spot for this, lol. Melody was always JB's strong suit.

A fantastic post! Thanks for sharing! After 25 (technically 27) Bond films, OHMSS remains my favorite Bond film. It certainly is John Barry's best Bond score, and this lovely song, and how it's used in the film, is definitely an excellent example of the many important facets of the score. The video is excellent too; great job.

This song came up on my playlist (as part of the OHMSS soundtrack) and is now completely stuck in my head. The combination of serious, melancholy -- and slightly whacky -- lyrics; the beautiful voices including the kids going out of tune on the first chorus. Great job mixing the OHMSS clips with a TV show appearance. I hadn't realized that Barry and David wrote this.
