Splinter: I will avenge my master, Hamato Yoshi! Prepare to die Shredder! Also Splinter: We're totally BFF's now Saki wanna get wasted like the writers of this show?
But seriously, since this was The Return of The Shredder, he should have been seen at least once in the suit, right? Hell, imagine if instead of just seeing him laugh we see him putting it back on, at least the helmet. This isn't The Return of the Shredder, this is How Saki Got His Groove Back.
I like how there's a germ of a good idea in this episode but Next Mutation did it's best to kill it before it could be anything good. I like the idea of Shredder after having fallen so low, is forced to team up with the turtles to take on a common threat and the twist could be maybe this humbling makes him truly want to change his ways but because he's regarded with suspicion and fear by the turtles that eventually the alliance breaks down and Shredder goes back to his villainous ways and becomes a third faction with the Foot Clan making it's return.
@@alijahaskew4644 Unfortunately not, at least not as deep as this. Shredder and the Foot's main mutants team up with Splinter and April to take down the Triceratons in the Season 3 finale, but Shredder kills Splinter and forsakes the entire planet simply just so he could win.
That's basically Next Mutation in a nut shell. They get tiny bits of ideas for episodes that are interesting, then go out of their way to ruin said idea.
Also, I would've thought that with the Foot clan, that whilst it certainly would've been rather crippled, with them losing Shredder, that I can imagine there being members of the clan trying to regroup and rebuild slowly, supposedly over the course of the series, with someone else pretty much taking the helm. That certainly would've been interesting. Especially when, depending on the leadership, it could always leave the Shredder in an awkward position, if he did regain his memory, considering his organization would've been hijacked by another guy, whilst he was out of commission.
I think if the show was, well, competent, Venus could have a really interesting dynamic with Shredder. She doesn’t have a history of fighting him like the other turtles, so I could see her being more sympathetic to him. Perhaps they form a pseudo friendship of feeling like they are in a world they don’t belong in (Venus in New York and Shredder without the foot clan to command) I could even see a compelling side-swap story with Venus joining the foot clan, since she doesn’t get along with the turtles anyway
That would be interesting to see Venus start forming an pseduo-friendship with the Shredder since she does not have a history with him and could possibly ending up joining the Foot Clan which would make an interesting story arc had the series not be so awful in many ways.
Splinter: "Join me in the way of The Green." Leonardo: "What's the way of The Green? Don't tell some kind of weird hippy thing!" Splinter: "No, I am actually a notary for The Parliament of Trees. Swamp Thing is a friend of mine."
Out of all the episodes, why is THIS the one being taken down? Is there a angry fanboy who loved this episode and got offended and reported it so it would be takened down or something?
They should’ve had Shredder get amnesia from Venus, then show up as a bum who either befriends Splinter or who splinter runs into doing some good things, that way there could be a debate on whether or not they should treat Oroku Saki and this new identity the same or not. Maybe he has a pet who loves him like Splinter did Yoshi who becomes his mutant henchmen after he turns bad again. There could even be an even split of who wants to end him (Raph for clear reasons and Donny who thinks it’s the smart thing to do before the memories return) who doesn’t (Leo because that wouldn’t be honourable and Mikey believes in people like the heart of the team he should be) and who’s Unsure. (Splinter morality vs what happens if Splinter remembers and he could’ve stopped it while Venus could be dealing with the consequences of mind wiping. Maybe someone offhandedly blames her for the situation, so she vows never to do it again, hence why we never see it again.
See the problem there is that would be good writing with a genuinely complex issue that doesn't have an easy answer. We all know this show wanted no part of anything like that and actively defied any elements that could've improved it
Also, I would've thought that with the Foot clan, that whilst it certaihly would've been rather crippled, with them losing Shredder, that I can imagine there being members of the clan trying to regroup and rebuild slowly, supposedly over the course of the series, with someone else pretty much taking the helm. That certainly would've been interesting. Especially when, depending on the leadership, it could always leave the Shredder in an awkward position, if he did regain his memory, considering his organization would've been hijacked by another guy, whilst he was out of commission.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 Yeah, a lot of us forget that this show does not like to do stories with complex issues and alike. I do get why though... In terms of people expecting this show or its writers to stop constantly messing around and get serious at times.
Shredder: “haha spar with me old frenemy!” Splitter: “we have fought hundreds of times and it’s always seemed like a draw!” Shredder: “perhaps deep down I’ve always had a respect for you and your students.” Splinter: “yeah but now that we have some kind of common ground, now Seems like the perfect time to mention a MacGuffin and accuse you of murdering my master and stealing it!” Shredder: “wait..did I do that? I’m genuinely asking because we’ve never mentioned this plot line before..” Splinter: “I hate you. I should’ve never helped you, even though I will again later, any chance of us being uneasy allies forged out of respect is immediately gone and it wasn’t even reached organically.” Shredder: “ok bye, I’ll go laugh somewhere for no reason and then turn evil again at the end of the episode, character development is lame.” There. I basically short handed the entire episode.
You know, between Shredder and Splinter, I wonder what's with sanitation work: Splinter makes Saki cleans the sewer here, and on the '87 cartoon episode where they body swap, Saki turns the turtles into house maids 🤔
Does anyone remember back in Going Ape when Lulu Calliope said that the bar couldn't go any lower? Well the bar is near the center of the Earth at this point!
Geez, the fact they're being so relentless on THIS episode of all things. We appreciate your diligence, Phelan, no matter how much I still enjoy this stupid ass show I have enjoyed every episode of this immensely and can't wait for the finale and Power Rangers crossover, this has been a sheer joy of a roast.
It's bizarre how out of all the episodes, THIS is the one that keeps getting taken down. Then again, the fact that anyone, even copyright holders, care enough about this show to want to take down these reviews in the first place is surprising enough.
I know this is Shredder we're talking about, but damn the turtles were sociopathic towards him. Then we pile on the stupidity of bringing Shredder, their arch enemy, the man who would stop at nothing to brutally murder all of them, to their lair. Of course they don't expect his sudden but inevitable betrayal as a serious possibility because no one on this show is capable of coherent thought or foresight.
Hey Venus was capable of coherent thought on a rare occasion, she just got drowned out by the sheer stupidity of the other 4 so often it rotted what little brain she had by this point
@@zeroattentiongaming820 True., no one is safe and there's no one strong enough to resist the next mutation turtles' stupidity aura. Even exposure for a short time can rapidly kill brain cells. It's like their super power or something or if you'll forgive the pun their "stupor power."
@@johndoejjdujd Or the creators of The Next Mutation They must have gotten butthurt that Phelous trashed their magnum opus (citation needed) and this episode in particular was (somehow) their favourite
The message I get on those older uploads says "This video has been removed by the uploader". I think Phelous removed it himself due to it being demonetised.
Why the hell does this keep getting taken down? I'd say it was the copyright holders being malicious, but then I'd expect them to take down the others as well. Maybe the UK censors found it and tried to censor Phelous too.
It's ALMOST like the entire DMCA system was never designed to be run by bots, but put no limitations in place to prevent it being abused as such, making the whole system complete bullshit for the users and creators, benefiting ONLY the copyright holders! But that'd just be crazy.
Shredder: “wait wait wait wait! That thing was magic!?!” Splinter: “you didn’t know?” Shredder: “hell no, I took that thing just to be a dick, all this time it could’ve helped me!?!”
🇺🇸 Jon: Garfield you are a bum! Garfield: Yes, I know. Now change my kitty litter. 🇬🇧 Jon: Garfield you are a "bad cat!" Garfield: Yes, I know. Now change my "box".
Going with the mirage comics orgin of shredder killing himato yoshi after yoshi killed his brother orku nagi. Might be a decent reason for splinter felling sympathy for shredder.
Shredder did some cool things this episode: Stopped being a bum, accepted tea from Splinter and fought against the dragons. UK edit: Shredder did some cool things this episode: Accepted tea from Splinter and fought against the dragons.
I'm always happy to watch a reupload and do my part to attempt to repair the like count, but I'm especially glad to rewatch this episode. This really is a dreadful incarnation of Shredder, but your mockery makes it all worthwhile! Keep up the amazing work. 🖤
Why do I get the feeling the Next Mutation Shredder is behind this? It seems like he didn't want ANYONE to see how humiliated he was in this show so he decided to report this so he could get it down.
Personally, it's Dragon Lord. I mean, sure Oroku would be ashamed by this but at the same time, this whole series is shameful to his legacy given how the turtles are a constant pain in his ass. If anything, the Rank would try to get rid of this given how this is the last real end of their run despite the final episode.
Imma say this here too but I'm surprised that this show knows what a Shuriken even looks like. You'd think they'd grab a stick paint it gold and call it the Golden Shuriken
I love the "🎵the Shredder-- is-- 🎵pathetic!" edit you did here. It would've been great if it could be used as often as "I hate Splinter" and "Michelangelo is braindead"... but that'd require him to be in the show more often.
If phelous ever does a full review of the 87 cartoon (or at least the questionable episodes), I can see it being used often there. Since there's lots of instances of shredder being pathetic.
Maybe for slightly better story to the show would've been if Shredder was the one to release The Dragon Lord and his cronies out and gets betrayed by them and make temporary alliance with the turtles
Much like with the vampires and Bonesteel, there was some potential here if Shredder was still a threat to see him take on Dragon Lord and his dragons as a means of securing his territory from a rival faction or even seeing him join forces with Dragon Lord to get revenge on the turtles...but as always this show can only be a disappointment.
Christmas is coming. There is an adaptation of A Christmas Carol done by Good Times. It’s what you’d expect. You gotta make it happen this year, Phelous!
I would LOVE a TMNT universe where the Shredder became more of a frienemy by the progression of the show 'cause of a bigger villain. There's potential of a reformed Shredder and Splinter friendship
In the idw comics shredder & splinter do become friends in fact splinter helps him redeem. Himself and shredder becomes a good guy after splinter death in the comics and helps out the turtles
14:54 That scene is bad enough in the show, but just imagine being someone who trained in martial Arts for years to be a stunt actor in Hollywood. You keep putting out your credentials in hopes of getting your dream job but don't hear back from anyone. Then one day, you get a call from these showrunners saying they want to hire you and it's for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project! That'd look great in your resume! You take the job and all excited for it, sure the costumes don't look great, but whatever work is work and this will surely help your career. Then one day for shooting, the director tells you and the rest of the stunt actors that they're going to wrap white sheets around your crotch and tell you all to act like babies. I can't imagine the humiliation those poor actors must have felt. If I was one of them I'd probably never take my mask off just so the director couldn't see my looks of disgust and anger at everything.
I was wondering what happened to this one. Maybe it's the UK editors, desperate to cut the remainder of the episode. Maybe you can replace the video with a grappling hook!
@@MinscFromBaldursGate92 Exactly!🤣 I mean theres already a lot people who have said Venus was the main reason this show failed. Yeah not the fact it has unnecessary slapstick, sexist remarks from Raph (who is my favourite turtle) and the villain in the final showdown defeated by frickin itching powder, nah it's the Ninja Turtle with boobs that broke this show's back. Lol.
I will never understand why no one batted an eye for the first twenty-four episodes, but then this episode ended up getting raped by inexplicable claims
Clearly, someone was involved in this one episode and this one episode alone and they want all traces of that humiliation buried. Understandable, really.
12:50 I just love Donnies pose and movements in the background as if he's praying to the script Gods for better writing and at the same time he can hear them saying "NO!"
This series did worse by Shredder than the first 2 movies. Keep in mind in the first one he fell off a building into a garbage truck which then Casey started the crusher. The second one had an entire wooden boardwalk fall on top of him. Minor detail but how are Shredder and Splinter are nostalgic over sparring when in this incarnation they only fought a few times as it follows the first 3 movies but they say they've sparred a lot
I love how Shredder acts as if he had no idea he was carrying a magical MacGuffin which could supposedly grant him ultimate power in his pocket this entire time until Splinter brought it up. "I just kept it because I thought it looked good on me. I had no idea it was magic! Thanks, rat! Now I shall use it to destroy you all! Muhahahaha!" Another reason to hate Splinter.
Ya know, looking back at this I had a theory that the reason they wrote Shredder out may have been due to the show wanting the villains to be more cartoony and comedic rather than human like to avoid being censored too much. When you look back at it, the guys hardly ever fight and for the most part when they do it's with those COVERED dragon scouts. You know how the 80s cartoon made the Foot Soldiers robots in certain episodes to allow the guys to cut them to pieces while at the same time prevent them from getting censored by NOT killing humans? The same rule seems to apply with the dragon scouts as because we KNOW they aren't human, the turtles can kick their asses as much as they want but with Shredder, not a chance considering he's the most competent fighter in the series. They can get away with it when you put Bonesteel on screen because all his fights are comedic and goofy with all the moves usually being the guys wrapping him up in something like a 3 Stooges gag rather than real hand to hand combat. Even with Dragon Lord they didn't fight him a lot and he was supposed to be this massively powerful being that could top Shredder but they never did anything with him. Shredder was just a commodity they didn't want anything to do with because he wasn't 'exciting' compared to their new dragon villain but probably because of restrictions they couldn't utilize Dragon Lord for more than anything but sitting around and plotting stuff, also because the costume was so poorly made it may have made fighting a headache to do.
Splinter brings Hitler to the lair. Mikey: How the hell is Hitler here? And why did you bring him here? Splinter: I believe he is a changed man. Hitler: Do you have any WW2 history books? Splinter: Right over there. Hitler: I am going to borrow them? Splinter: Sure Mikey: Master, stop him. Splinter trips Mikey. Hitler goes back to his time and changes history to his vision.
@@SanFran51More like they didn't give a damn about the Turtles since apparently some of these writers would go on to do other work which were better than their writing here but w.e.
The Turtles keep allowing the villains to cause mayhem in the streets and don't care how many people the dragons eat. When you really think about it, it's no wonder why New York in this show is a ghost town.
Ah hobo Shredder cause that's what we needed, then again it would be cool if they added a golden shuriken shredder. A new power up to fight the turtles & a new toy to buy.
When you realise Shredder looks confused when Splinter first mentions it, that indicates the character was not aware of it before or the fact the he ‘stole’ it😶…………. AH probably a coincidence 😜
Actually the ORIGINAL cartoon series KINDA already did this idea where Shredder had amnesia and the Turtles take him back to the lair. However Splinter was smart because after Leonardo rightfully pointed out the danger of letting him stay Splinter hypnotises Shredder into thinking he's Michaelangelo. He remains that way until apparently hearing his old name snaps him out of it and he still pretends to be Michaelangelo setting the Turtles up for a trap. Actually the whole episode is cool and everyone ACTUALLY acts smart; mostly. Next mutation just crapped all over this concept done 20 years ago and also made everyone an idiot.🙄
I just realized something. What if by happenstance that this show's existence is predicted by the "Wacky Deli" episode from Rocco's Modern Life? Someone in charge of The Next Mutation in whatever department it's for hates the TMNT with a burning passion that their mission is to do whatever they can to sabotage the show, and yet, the higher exec's from Saban looked at this and said "WE LOVE IT!🤪" and that's how it was able to have a full season and a Power Rangers collab. I think I deciphered it. Rocco's Modern Life predicted the existence of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.
Just thought you should know that without the episode number in the title they stop showing the next review at the top of the sidebar. Also, searching for 25 turns up the finale instead of this. I'm guessing this one is suffering in views as a result.
Speaking of TNM being a pseudo-continuation of the 90’s movies, this show was a result of a cancelled Ninja Turtles IV movie which was also called The Next Mutation!
Pretty sure Next Mutation used the same set as the second Turtles move since it's more a subway than a sewer, not sure if it's just because they are all live action but I always thought Next Mutation was following the movies.
I'll the Shredder is the worst. He keeps shredding this Next Mutation review. Thankfully, Phelous is dedicated to his craft and able to fix it so it's clear to go.
