It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive RU-vid experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong (and frequently does)...
This time, as we test a 2003 Rover 1.4 Impression S3, we have to deal with self-inflicted wind noise, incessant drivel about gearboxes, too much information about pre-facelift and post-facelift alloy wheel designs and drone on about very little of any importance at all. Nothing untoward, then...

This is an exemplary Rover 45 with the 1.4 engine that was the envy of the other manufacturers when it was launched. In this condition, this colour, with so little mileage and driving so well , this is certainly a Keeper. Most enjoyable. The 2004 facelift with the BMW like headlights did look very modern but, ultimately, the twin headlights variants looked better, more Classic, I think.

Yes, Mr Golebiewski 's car is pretty good. I prefer mine of course, but it's a very clean low mileage car in a lovely colour. Thank you for watching, sir!

What a beautiful 45 this is and must be Stan's pride and Joy. Another excellent Review as always sir.

Mr Golebiewski does indeed have a very nice low mileage car. The accidental wind noise was a bit of a shame, I am afraid....

I’ve got a 45 I L 1.6 in Wedgwood blue(a nice shade of blue). I agree 45’s drives well, comfortable, I’ve just had the timing belt and all the other belts replaced on mine inc the Water pump which was leaking badly. Mine is a May 2002 car so pre project drive I think with the older gearbox which sounds like a Honda gearbox but I’m probably wrong. Anyhow good review mr Lloyd, that car looks in very good condition.

That wind noise was pretty bad, sir, but at least we got to film this nice 45. The 1.6 example you have I have most certainly seem before. The gearbox would not be the Honda PG1, but the old R65. Those can be quite nice if they are low mileage.

Stereo is original. I had the tape deck equivalent in my 25 1.4iXL on a 52 plate.

My first car was my mum's old Rover 214 si bubble shape (R103LHG since you didn't ask). I liked it and remember it being quite reliable and comfortable, I also remember the clutch had an incredibly high bite point, are the later ones the same?
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting Год назад
Yes, the clutches used to bite quite high on those. I used to own a 214 Si which was a bubble shape, the 45s have a hydraulic clutch, and are thus completely different in that respect.

I was thinking, surely you must have covered most of the versions of Rovers by now. But I suspect there are lots more. 🙂 It is interesting that they got 103hp out of the 1.4 but only 155 out of the V6. And not much torque, relatively speaking.

Mr Seabrook complained again about the perceived lack of torque in the 2.0 KV6 again when he attended the Fuel Power Party on 11th September, sir, so it's old news, really. He still seems to quite like the 45 V6, though. I would wager that, actually, I have owned my car for far longer than he had his, and you just get used to driving it in the way that it needs, and although I don't disagree that it's really not got the most low torque, I have driven cars that are far worse in that respect. The one which was the worst of all was the Mark I Toyota Yaris T Sport.

the diesel 2.0L has a very reliable engine and half decent fuel consumption for their age. My 1.4 had the headgasket fail.

Well, I am afraid that due to the Mayor of London and all his friends around the country with all their Ultra Low Emission and Clean Air Zones, we don't talk about diesels on this channel...
