This video will show you a way of getting your audio to work properly in calls on Android phones that use the okay google feature. Works with most Android versions, including Nougat & Oreo and the latest release Android Pie 9.0
It seems that as the app monitors the mic of the phone, under some conditions it will override the normal behaviour of the mic so no one can hear you on the other end, or it will cause the call to drop or just no audio at all.
By disabling the okay google voice monitoring, everything goes back to normal and you can enjoy using your phone again.

I've tried everything I can and I still CANNOT hear the caller but the caller CAN hear me. I have to put the call on speaker in order for me to hear the caller. I tried recording an audio and a video and my mic works fine. I tried to fix my problem by using safe mode, rebooting, turning off "ok google", and all the other things you mentioned in this video and the other video but still doesn't work. Please help!!!

Holy smokes I cannot thank you enough!! I do not know why I lost my ear speaker ability but right in the middle of the day my phone is my central means of communication and not being able to hear people on the other line was devastating. I'm having the opposite problem. I can hear when I dial I can hear other audio but on calls they can hear me but I can't hear them. I've confirmed this calling myself on landline as well.

I discovered that this fix will work even if all of the sliders are turned off. I had fixed my 5.1.1 LG44 using your method before, but I encountered the same problem today. I followed your advice after I had toggled all of the sliders on and then turned them off as per your instructions. Phone works fine now. This software/firmware (Who knows?) error is inexcusable.

My problem is that in phone calls I hear the person I am talking to, but they can't hear me, they say it sounds like I'm in a bottle lol I have to scream my lungs out so they can barely hear me XDD I haven't watched the video, but I hope it helps me...EDIT: THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHH IT WORKED YOU EARNED A SUB!!!! Im using an adroid 5.1.1 lollipop and there is static coming from the speakers when sound is playing and the original sound is not playing but when i have a bluetooth headset on it works.

My fix was during the call I've muted and then unmuted the mic. It was purely empirical solution for me. I hope it will help others.

this is a good idea and does the same kind of thing by "reminding" the phone you are actually using the calling side of the hardware and to toggle the the mic off and back on. This should be helpful for others that are struggling to get a result. Thanks for the heads up

Delete Google assistant, this is the fix, if you retsart the phone and the mic starts recording again on video as well as calls. It's not a hardware issue it's an embedded software functionality issue, I have removed Google assistant on multiple pixels and have considered them back to perfect working condition, so your turning the functions off in the settings was a great step, but the software is still installed with the bugs lingering, delete the app. Unfortunately it's the best part of the phone, just the problem for most of us though. Get assistant off your pixels. Your welcome.

Yes Mark I totally agree, this half baked assistant crap is really starting to piss me off! But it does bring in the viewers :-) I use the assistant quiet a lot in the home in combination with my smart devices like Hive and Meross etc, so I need some of the functionality that the google home / google assistant offer. I tried Amazon's Alexa and that was okay on the phones, but the eco system was so tightly wedged up Amazon's omnipresent butt checks that it had to go. So we are stuck with "hey GOOOOOgle" until Microsoft sorts out Cortana (that will be a barrel or laughs) Anyway time to medicate. Thanks for the comments :-)

The solution that worked for my problem on a moto g5. use an app called speaker dryer, it took a few tries but sound started to come out the speaker. its working now.

I don't how desabling Google apps options that you told will affect the microphone performance. Mine phone will work fine in sometimes and sometimes unable to hear proper voice

The hey Google app uses the microphone all the time to monitor for the command to be said. Sometimes the app doesn't hand the microphone back to the dialer app when the phone rings. So you answer and the the mic is still stuck listening for "hey google" The next time you answer a call and they cant hear you, say ok google or hey google and the app will start up straight away. Showing that the mic software has not swapped back into call mode. I hope this explains the problem

sapphireblu76 This is the only fix, factory reset your phone. Back it up . Do not allow Google assistant to be installed. Unfortunately Google hasn't issued a statement, because they are having issues with the software compatibility between Google assistant and Google's pixel microphone software, I'm sorry your all having this issue and no one has given the proper advice , Google has the best chance for the best phone , I'm trying to assist customers the best I can.

+Khad din happy to help! It seems one of the apps has corrupted the sound profile and this method appears to fix it. It seems worse on Nougat 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 standard 7.0.0 seems less affected for some reason. Anyway thanks for your comments hope the fix lasts!

It seems your mic is faulty or disabled. Can you try making a call with the headset and mic to confirm the fault. You could also try using soundabout to receive route the audio to the mic incase the headphones socket is sticking. Try these options and let me know the outcome. Peace

Didn't work for me. My phone calls are low volume even with incall volume turned up all the way. I have a Samsung J7 Perx ugh.. I have to have the person on speaker phone or use headphones with a mic.

+Brittany if you have very low volume it is probably a hardware fault. Although if it is fine after a factory reset it might be worth seeing if any of the apps you install cause the problems by installing one app at a time?

Why can the receiver over WhatsApp call hear when I play a random voice note from another WhatsApp conversation? They can actually hear everything when my phone is either on speaker phone or on my normal handset mode. This is scary to me. Any fix? Thanks guys. I have a OnePlus 5 smartphone btw.

This is the only fix, factory reset your phone. Back it up . Do not allow Google assistant to be installed. Unfortunately Google hasn't issued a statement, because they are having issues with the software compatibility between Google assistant and Google's pixel microphone software, I'm sorry your all having this issue and no one has given the proper advice , Google has the best chance for the best phone , I'm trying to assist customers the best I can.

I have a connectivity problem in my oneplus 3(A3000) , once a make a phone call.. The voice disappears after 2 or 3 seconds while the call is still on. I tried to recet the phone to factory settings and to change the rom, the issue happened in Android oreo and nougat. I got a call recording app, and a strange thing happened, the call is being recorded where the other person is trying to talk to me while i couldn't hear him.. The call recording only records the other person but my voice cuts out after 2 or 3 seconds. I wish i could get your help in this matter as it happens to almost 90% of the calls initiated or received.

+mostafa samir what mobile network are you using? Try going into sim settings and set roaming to manual then select your country. This is another android fix I am working on. Let us know how you get on with this

Awesome! Turned off Google assistant service and tada, phone audio was restored. Phone problem was that audio for calling out or answering calls would only be audible by speaker. After following your advice, all is well. OS version Android 12. Thanks! 👍

Yo Frank! Have you tried cleaning the headphone socket and checking for dirt and fluff? That is a massively common thing to trigger that kind of behaviour. Give it a go.
