Finally got ahold of the Peter McKinnon Everyday Camera Bag and figured what better way to review it than do a Cheers to Gear! Also, had to compare it to my Peak Design Everyday bag. What's your favorite bag? Sound off below in the comments.

Hey Wendy, thanks for watching and commenting. As far as I know Nomatic is still fulfilling Kickstarter backer orders, but I believe once those are filled then they’ll be sending them out to retailers. I could be 100% wrong though since I don’t work for Nomatic nor am I an affiliate.

Alex, I can’t wait to get my bag! Been waiting almost a year….. have the original and 2 peak design bags. The Peak Design and PM are equally comfortable, try on yourself and make your own decision, no one should tell you what shoe, bag, pants, etc is more comfortable. That statement might be true to that person and can equally be false to you. As much as I want to love Nomatic as a company, and I own many of there outstanding products, this kickstarter was handled horribly. I am still waiting for my everyday bag, and paid last summer as the bags we’re supposed to arrive in October. As someone who is 100% fair on this and I didn’t receive a free bag, I can say the fact that Nomatic changed the design on the cubes and made them look all wrinkled was really unforgivable. Nomatic did I this to say money and NO other reason. And that’s really a shame.

It’ll be worth it once you get it. Also, I didn't get a free bag. I paid for the bag with my own money and was a backer myself.

Is your pm logo on the front straight? Mine appears to be crooked. I also immediately hated the top where all the zippers meet, the zippers from the quick access compartment make it difficult to use the main zippers. Not sure if it's a build quality issue or design flaw.

Mine seems to be pretty straight. The top compartment zippers with the backside zippers originally get in the way, but if you move the top compartment zippers to either side then the issue is no more.

@@alexshotthese ah so I drew the short straw and got the crooked logo, dang it haha. I'll have to fight my OCD and learn to have the zipper to the side cause overall I love the bag. I forgot I bought it until a couple months ago because of the long wait so it was almost like a surprise gift to myself.

I almost forgot too haha. It also could be the way the bag sits or the fabric isn’t stretching enough to make it straighter? Idk, you could always take a photo and send it to Nomatic and see if they could replace it and you send that one back? I wanted to zip from the middle too, but honestly these zippers are so dang smooth I don’t have an issue at all moving them to one side.

@@alexshotthese it's definitely crooked but doesn't bother me enough to send it back. Yes the zippers are so smooth. I have the original bigger pm bag and I love it but damn the zippers are like too heavy duty or something cause it is difficult to unzip.

You praise the Nomatic bag for opening from the top but the Peak Design does so also. Is there something different between the two from how they open from the top?

Hey thanks for watching and commenting. The PM bag can have a cube placed in the top so your gear isn’t moving around loosely. The Peak Design bag has a top section too, but your gear will just sit in there loose which could potentially damage it.

No problem! Yes there are a ton of camera bags out there to choose from. The peak design is a great bag though as I state in the video, but I just prefer having top access to my camera. Makes it quicker for me grabbing my camera and get to taking photos. I also REALLY love how the PM bag stands up on its own. It’s great.

Best review and comparison video out there. Very relaxed, great shots of the bag and make some great points about all the bags you showed in this review. I have the same issue with my PD bag as well, it's the main reason I went for the McKinnon bag. I'm still trying to figure out if this bag is the right one for me though, but I like your idea of the smaller cube up top!

It’s more of an initial impression I guess, but I have already been using it for multiple shoots and it is holding up nicely. I’ll definitely do a review a year from now.

Most points you point out as annoying with the Peak Design is something that I actually like the most. Straps are way more comfortable, the side access is a trillion times better than only full access from the back. Means I never need to put my back down on the floor to get my gear. The nomatic also uses a lot of plastic around the backpack, what PD doesn’t. Have to admit I really want to like the Nomatic more, but at this point the PD wins. Hopefully the V2 will have side access too instead of only full back accessibility. 30liters would also be awesome.

After having the bag for so long now I’ll have to agree to most of your statements. Except the straps. The straps, while still really comfortable on the PD bag, they just aren’t as comfy as the Nomatic bag. All that said though, I actually swapped back to my PD bag. It’s just such a perfect travel bag.

Roughly about the same. Peak Design is $289.85 and PM bag is $249, but you’ll need to purchase either a cube separately or dividers.

cubes are trash quality. Nothing like they showed pre release. rest of the bag is good though

My cubes, while not completely straight, work just fine for what they’re designed for.

@@alexshotthese true. They will work. But nothing like what we were shown. Go back and look at the photos and videos from pre release. I definitely would not be proud of them. I took mine out and took the dividers from my extra V1 McKinnon bag. I really like it way better now.

Poor cube/divider setup on your PD is the real Issue. One side fits perfect for a 85m/longer lens + a wide 16-20+/24-70 lens on other divider.

I would do this exact setup, but in the video I state how I hated having to swamp to the other side to swap a lens and the bag, over time, won’t open properly so I began setting it down. After one month with the PM bag, I don’t regret my decision. Been perfect for me.

I know, but that’s Kickstarter for you. I will say, not sure why they did it through Kickstarter. I only backed one other thing and I had to wait months to get it since they had to produce it. It’s a weird way to go about doing things.

The Peter McKinnon has thick straps but they're not flexible and people have said it's not as comfortable carrying weight around all day. Hoping there's going to be more pockets in the final product doesn't help us!

It’s far more comfortable than the peak design. If you want more pockets than what I talked about in the video then this bag clearly isn’t for you.

@@alexshotthese it’s NOT “far more comfortable” it depends on the individual. I like the PM bag better, but the Peak design bags are incredibly comfortable. I’d say the Peak Design bag is more comfortable and I own 2. However I like the PM bag better for other reasons, there’s no right bag for everyone in every situation.

A lot of companies were affected by Covid. I know it was still a mess and still continues to kind of be a mess, but it is a solid bag.

@@alexshotthese please stop bailing them out with Covid there were numerous issues that had nothing to do with Covid. You really think people are this passed off because of covid set backs? I've been waiting on custome key caps for 3yrs now and I couldn't careless it'll come when it come but how Nomatic dealt with this screamed incompetence. Not to mention the cubes are nothing like advertised.

Yes there could have been more communication, but I guess I’m one of the people that wasn’t NEEDING a bag. My peak design was getting me by so I had no problem being patient. My cubes aren’t that bad. They aren’t as straight as the original introduction video, but they hold my things so I have no issue with that. Now if the bag itself was not like the original and worse then we’d have a problem as that’s what people see. The internals of the bag work fine and no one sees the cubes.

@@alexshotthese glad you had that privilege. Had to buy the PD everyday bag last minute for a trip and am loving it. Not communicating that the cubes were being radically changed to backers a long with not just terrible communication but what feels at this point like endless lies mounts to a great disappointment. It's also not about that the cubes don't look pretty it's that they now don't hold things like they advertised with certain lenses or configurations. Also people made up their minds on the cubes because of the structure they provided for whatever reasons they had for it, at the end the cubes and how they were presented were a big reason why i bought the bag. Please don't diminish it by saying it's just a looks issue.

Peak design bag is a nice bag, but over time I realized I hated how I had to get my camera out. I’ve had no issues with the cubes fitting anything. They didn’t change the design radically or anything. They’re just not as stiff as the original ones looked to be.
