man I remember when I was a kid playing this with my brother at the Arcade i use to use up all my quarters in it...I remember saving up for weeks just to go to the arcade...I miss the Arcade :( i wish they were still around
Final Fight series is good, but it helps to have a healthy dose of nostalgic memories attached! Just so you know, Final fight series isnt cheap, only the first one. 2nd, 3rd and final fight guy are expensive
This was a surprisingly thorough and professional review. That statement comes from someone who viewed this vid embedded, btw. Final Fight is indeed a classic that ruled arcades in my neck of the woods in the late 80s/early 90s. I'm not sure if you've checked out any of the other old arcade ports that were butchered on consoles, but SNES and Genesis had plenty. Anyway, keep experimenting, keep reviewing, and more importantly, keep gaming. Toodles.
Great work as always, friend. =) I loved the "reenactment " of you guys realizing you couldn't play it on two player. xD Some of the text that would appear while you were talking was a little distracting and I missed what you said (or what was read) but I still like it when you do that stuff. It just works better when it's directly flowing with the same thought as what is being spoken. There's just critique for ya. ;)
I reviewed this back in Feb. I love this game and have many memories as a kid playing this game til my thumbs hurt! Final Fight is one of my favorite series on the SNES

I can only imagine what else lies ahead in this area (the opening seemed to tease you possibly reviewing Axelay? Bring it on!). I loved the bit about 'Two P.' I played this on my Gameboy Advanced SP and it was possibly my favorite :) It was the first game I ever beat without my older brothers help although it did take forever
Had this one and Rival Turf for the SNES back in the day but couldn't give either their due thanks to obsession with Street Fighter II. Looking back now, these side scrolling beat em ups were pretty interesting stuff. Certainly worthy followups to the ones I loved on the NES (Double Dragon, Bad Dudes, River City Ransom etc.)

Ahh, the old two player thing. I had the same reaction when I downloaded Double Dragon on the VC. I thought it was a two player cooperative game, and when I found out it was Mario style, I was not happy.
errr... because I wanted to review a downloadable game, like I said in the intro. I arbitrarily picked Final Fight not knowing how it compared to the arcade version. I can't see how that is so hard to believe....
Hands down, the best home port is on the Sega CD. It retained all of the characters and enemies from the original and also added the bridge stage. I believe it had a time attack survival mode as well. I had it back in the day and loved how faithful it was to the original with some added bonuses, such as cheesy voice acting during the intro. The 2nd best console port is the original arcade version on the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 for the PS2
We have an arcade in Paris (well we have numerous, but this one is special) that features only fighting games, and is 3 euros... A day. Yeah. Like 3 euros and you can spend the whole effing day in there just beating the shit out of your friends. And it's in the basement of an awesome video games shop with nice oldies (yesterday I got Ninja Gaiden 1 complete with leaflet AND original packaging from them).
Gotta love old school games but I could never bring myself to buying them on the Wii or 360. Rather stick to going to local stores and buying the original cartridges for a few bucks, it increases the nostalgia factor, even more when played on an old TV.
It was a great arcade game, and it's a shame they only made it 1 player on snes as sega cd. Note the the re-release of this game on gba is awesome and has alternate outfits you can unlock. If you have a gba or ds, I highly recommend getting that version of final fight.
No enemies exclusive to one area of the city? G. Andore and U. Andore are only encountered in the cage portion of area 3, the west side. Sure, they are pallet swaps of Andore, but it still counts.
Great work on the video guys! Yeah i remember this game very very well and being always annoyed me and my cousin had to take turns playing rather than both of us fighting together so we just stuck with Streets of Rage.
and here I thought I was the only person alive that liked TMNT the reason that car smashing seems as familiar as it does is that Final Fight started of as a Street Fighter sequel
What the hell, out of all the versions they chose the porting disaster that was the SNES FF for the Wii?! I understand Nintendo not wanting to use the Sega CD version, but what about the GBA version?!
Funny, I just got all into Streets of Rage 2 recently, great game. No nostalgia needed for enjoyment! The controls are similar to FF (run into enemy to grab), it's kept at 2 buttons to make it more accessible I guess. I really miss the old 2D sprite stuff, busy playing Metal Slug now thanks to friends recommending it (can only vaguely remember playing it in arcades as a kid), I'm just blown away by the graphics! I'm really amazed how well some of these games hold up...
At first I was like "Heh... Thinking Two P is player two is pretty sillyHEY WAIT I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS BASED OFF FORGOTTEN WORLD D:" Very informative review! My first experience with Final Fight was on the Amiga. I don't think that had Two Player either, but we did have Poison in it.
I had the GBA port of this, but it just didn't have much replay value for me. Once I got good enough to finish the game on command with any of the characters, there wasn't much left for me. I sold it on eBay for . . . um . . . I forget how much, but I don't regret it.
Oh man I saw Phantasy Star 2 in the montage part, I loved that game before. Also you should do a review on Forgotten World where two P came from lol. It's a fun two player game, with power ups and cool bosses.
They are also coming out with a port to XBLA and PSN called "Double Impact." Unfortunately it isn't a retro revival like "Bionic Commando Rearmed" but the same Arcade game only smoothed out and with remixed music, but it does come with another game "Magic Sword."
Take a look at the sega CD version. It allowed you to play as all 3 of the characters that were in the arcade cabinet. You also get to enjoy the 2-player function. I really don't know why Nintendo used the butchered SNES version for their virtual console. A straight arcade port on the virtual console should have been possible as well.
If there a game that not a lot of people played it was Bucky O' Hare the arcade game. I missed that game so much I managed to purchase one of the huge arcade machines for it. Every now and then when some friends come by we play it together and I am hit with a nostalgic atom bomb. The great times I had at chuck e' cheese pouring every token I had into that game. A lot of the times when I mention this game other people they have no clue what it is. So yeah hint hint.
Yeah, it being for one player only sucked. If you access the options menu you can asign the special attack to button A if you enable the extra joy option. One game that you really need to check out is Mighty Final Fight for the NES, surprisingly it has some of the things you were asking on the review, new abilities as you advance, more specific enemies on the level and for god's sake the special moves on it are just awesome.
I agree, this has nothing to do with stealing or disrespecting game makers most companies treat gamers like idiots, remove backwards compability, block games from other regions and make you pay for game fixes or patches latest Price of Persia expansion was not released for PC, just consoles wake up, suckers...
Nah.. I believe you.. I keep forgetting the age difference. I literally grew up with Final Fight at the Arcades. I can tell you many stories. I remember the feeling seeing FF on the SNES for the first time... Like I also remember seeing how lazy Capcom was with FF GUY. But I was never prepared for the Sega Cd Version. Back in 93, the console version of a game was always inferior to the Arcade version. Capcom went overtime with the port of FF on the Sega CD!! Check it out if you have a chance!
there was a very similar game on game boy advance called final fight one, in that one there was an extra character which was supposed to be cody's friend :S
If you thought this was at least pretty okay, I'd actually really recommend the SNES Batman Returns, which is very very similar in gameplay, but quite a bit more fine-tuned.
the sega cd version of this game so much better. The opening scene has voice acting, music is way better, two players, has guy(he is the third character), and all 6 levels.
