I'm a little sad that Diabarha didn't have more mention other than a clip of Uranoid at the beginning haha, Diabarha is still making insanely good Extratone and Speedcore stuff even over a decade after that original song.

@@maythefool9904 ummm i don't really know... Like I just listen to extratone... and I make it, based on these songs from JP artists I listen to.... I just don't like how Psycho Filth Records is basically never mentioned, they are doing it so well... (waaay better then Diabarha IMO) (examples of an awesome songs from Psycho Flith could be "Xystran - Depressed Mind" from "1000 OVER!!" or "t+pazolite - Saw-Saw." from "666 OVER!!") EDIT: ok so actually, last time i listened to Diabarha it was like few YEARS AGO, I now checked his latest songs and wow, i must say he improved a lot! They actually sound very cool now! - still not quite as good as Psycho Filth :p

Haha, wow did not expect this video at all. I was (well still am) involved in the splittercore and extratone scenes back in the late 2000's and it's good to see you cover it like this. I was honestly expecting it to be mostly made up lies but you got some key facts down and am thankful that it wasn't skewed entirely as "LOOK AT THIS WEIRD THING". Few things i'd like to point out though 1) Extratone in its purest form did not actually originate from speedcore, it was more of an experiment from a guy called "Einrich 3600BPM" who back in 1998 coined the term because he wanted to make the fastest music possible. It has more in common with noise music than speedcore. However with that being said there is some overlap between the 2 genres and people like Annoying Ringtone, Kurwastyle Project, Imil, Loffciamcore etc have all made extratone-styled-speedcore but not "pure" extratone. though with that being said most people in the scene these days do recognise that style as just being straight up extratone. It's really interesting! I'm actually helping someone out write a book about these genres as there is a lot of history behind it - though I get the youtube format, I could speak for hours about it. 2) Extratone parties, if you can believe it, DO exist. Mostly in berlin with the Trash & Core collective. People like PRESSTERROR, Ralph Brown and others perform there and they play straight up extratone. there are others dotted around eastern Europe but oddly the cultural hub for Extratone is berlin - Probably because of that collective If you want any more in-depth info about it for research purposes do poke me!

I actually know quite a few people that unironically like Extratone (myself included). I think the overall appeal is just... Think of Extratone as abstract art, it makes no sense, but it sounds awesome once you understand it. There are also subgenres of Extratone, by the way! Extratone is between 1000-15000 BPM, Supertone is 15000-1000000 BPM, Hypertone is 1000000 to infinity!

I'm so stoked that you're back !! You are an inspiration. Anyway, quick question, where does Black MIDI fit into this? Whilst I understand that Black MIDI is more about the composition and the fact that it is specifically about midi processing and midi playback, it still is a song nonetheless. Yes I also know that Extratone is more than just midi as it incorporates samplers and synths and everything else that a techno song would have (just sped up to 1,000 BPM), I feel that Black MIDI should play a big part as a "stepping stone" to Extratone and maybe should be included in the history and chronology. This is not a critique. You rock and I think you are extremely knowledgeable and do an awesome job. You are NOT A SHITHEEL !! Anyway, thanks for finally returning to RU-vid. !!

This video (and the whole genre of extratone) seems to come from a fundamental misunderstanding of what BPM is. Ironically, the first extratone song he showed is actually around 120 BPM. just because the number on the program says 1000 BPM it doesn't mean that's what the actual music will be. The Speedcore was right at around 230, and the Gabber slightly slower at about 190 - but that's about the same speed as Cartman's german dance from south park. All they're doing is looping a sample at a very high rate and using it as a note - using this exact same process you could claim that classical music has tempos up to 20000 BPM
@lars38010
@lars38010 6 лет назад
The very first track that you hear is 15,000 bpm. Not just 120. Everything over 1000 bpm sounds like a tone. Instead of beats. I mean you can compare this 15,000 bpm to the rpm of the engine of a F1 car. You can actually go to 1000+bpm. [Tutorial] How To Go Faster Than 1000 BPM In Garageband

No it isn't dude. I'm nodding my head along to that song at 120 BPM -that's where the pulse is. There are 120 pulses per minute ie 120 BPM. You even said it yourself, "Everything over 1000 bpm sounds like a tone" which is exactly my point - tones don't have pulses, but a series of tones will. Just because the individual tones were made in a program where it says "1000 BPM" in the corner, that has no effect on the actual BPM of the song. Yes, Garageband and many other programs will let you set the BPM at 1000 or some other really high number - but that does not mean the song is at that tempo. Tempo is the fundamental pulse of a song - it is literally impossible to have a pulse at 1000 BPM our brains cannot discern rhythmical elements with such a small time value; we perceive them as pitch instead. When you nod along or tap your foot to this song, you do it twice per second (120 BPM) If it were at 15000 BPM as you claim - you would be nodding your head 250 times per second - that's fast enough to produce it's own sound. And technically - that's all a bass guitar is doing to make sound. the string is moving back and forth 250 times per second - by your thinking - just hitting a ass string is playing at 15000 BPM. As I said first off; you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what BPM actually refers to. What do you think BPM means?

Sigh.... No, not what do the letters stand for. What does Beats per Minute mean? What does it refer to in terms of music?
@lars38010
@lars38010 6 лет назад
The amount of beats in a minute. But you are seriously telling me. That the first Extratone track is as fast as the pop music sweet spot?

Allow me to introduce you to hypertone. 1.2 million BPM and above. Admittedly, I've only ever heard two songs from this genre that I'd actually consider music but ah well. (The two songs, if you were wondering, are 'Singularity at 2.64e+6 BPM' by Kobaryo and a song I don't remember the name of that I think was by Gabba Front Berlin. The first one is genuinely just a banger I listen to in my free time, the second is just... Okay, listenable yes, but nothing crazy.) Kobaryo has sone good extratone as well.

Oh thank goodness! Yer back, and you referenced gabber, which I miss sometimes. If I may, you seemed to entirely skip out on the snare rush, which is defs related. As it has been employed by folks like Aphex, Squarepusher, and Venetian Snares (who used an extremely sped up snare rush to play the Sesame Street theme at the end of Getto Body Buddy venetiansnares.bandcamp.com/album/the-chocolate-wheelchair-album) the snare rush is absolutely "extra tone" territory. Come to think of it, breakcore in general kindof deserves a spot in this discussion, speaking of very high BPM. Maruosa comes to mind.
