For this upload we watch my most recently captured garbage truck video, taken in my local area of the Sydney northern beaches. The 1st of July 2019 marked the start date for a number of domestic collection contracts in Sydney, one of which was a 10 year partnership and commitment between Northern Beaches Council (NBC) and United Resource Management (URM). This is the first time a NBC truck is being featured on my channel, seeing that the council was only created in 2016 - the result of amalgamating the former Warringah, Pittwater and Manly. A number of local governments merged in 2016, but NBC has been the first to fully integrate waste management across all of the former council areas into a single streamlined operation. The region has seen a new collection contract put out to tender, 330000+ new bins delivered to replace all existing containers, 40 brand new collection vehicles hit the road, a standard collection service provided to all residential properties and the rezoning of the previous 15 Mon-Fri area schedules into 5 areas.
To the trucks, we see an enormous contrast compared to what has been around in the past, with an equipment workforce of 30 side loaders and 10 rear loaders to look after garbage, recycling, vegetation and booked clean-ups. Every cab chassis is a Dennis Elite and every lifter/compactor/body is a Superior Pak unit, all painted up entirely in 1 of 9 different colours including red, yellow, blue and black. The new stuff definitely makes for a very attractive group of machinery, which also features some awareness messages for extra character. I was out on the second day of the contract and managed to find a handful of new side loaders, capturing a few photos along the way, however I only videoed the bright green truck we see in this video. Midmorning on that Tuesday I made my way to the suburb of Elanora Heights and quickly found this truck doing the garbage run, with a good bloke I’ve known for a long time behind the wheel. The video kicks off with the first 80L bin back at the run, starting the fourth load of this truck’s life, where we also see the new hopper cover design actuated. There’s still more of the old Warringah, Pittwater and Manly trucks to come in future, along with hopefully more of the new coloured fleet!
