For this upload we watch my most recently captured garbage truck video, taken in my local area of the Sydney northern beaches. The 1st of July 2019 marked the start date for a number of domestic collection contracts in Sydney, one of which was a 10 year partnership and commitment between Northern Beaches Council (NBC) and United Resource Management (URM). This is the first time a NBC truck is being featured on my channel, seeing that the council was only created in 2016 - the result of amalgamating the former Warringah, Pittwater and Manly. A number of local governments merged in 2016, but NBC has been the first to fully integrate waste management across all of the former council areas into a single streamlined operation. The region has seen a new collection contract put out to tender, 330000+ new bins delivered to replace all existing containers, 40 brand new collection vehicles hit the road, a standard collection service provided to all residential properties and the rezoning of the previous 15 Mon-Fri area schedules into 5 areas.
To the trucks, we see an enormous contrast compared to what has been around in the past, with an equipment workforce of 30 side loaders and 10 rear loaders to look after garbage, recycling, vegetation and booked clean-ups. Every cab chassis is a Dennis Elite and every lifter/compactor/body is a Superior Pak unit, all painted up entirely in 1 of 9 different colours including red, yellow, blue and black. The new stuff definitely makes for a very attractive group of machinery, which also features some awareness messages for extra character. I was out on the second day of the contract and managed to find a handful of new side loaders, capturing a few photos along the way, however I only videoed the bright green truck we see in this video. Midmorning on that Tuesday I made my way to the suburb of Elanora Heights and quickly found this truck doing the garbage run, with a good bloke I’ve known for a long time behind the wheel. The video kicks off with the first 80L bin back at the run, starting the fourth load of this truck’s life, where we also see the new hopper cover design actuated. There’s still more of the old Warringah, Pittwater and Manly trucks to come in future, along with hopefully more of the new coloured fleet!

Surprised that URM bought Dennis eagles for Northern beaches very unexpected

Apart from those GenV's they got new in 09 this must be a milestone for URM! They should put a company history up on their site and write "purchased brand new trucks for the first time in nearly 10 years". Those automated Hopper Covers look cool, be funny if one got ripped off or damaged by a tree.

Don't sell them short mate ey, they also got 1 new JP5 in 2009 :P Hasn't been much in terms of new equipment recently, but they got a few new Garwood/Hinos for Leichhardt recycle not overly long ago, otherwise some half new/old chassis and body combos here and there too. I reckon a few of those hopper covers will get knocked by tree branches a bit, we know what happens to the front of hoppers in general haha I was shown the flaw about them but... you can't see into the bin when it's in the hopper as the cover obstructs the camera's outside vision, only giving a look at what falls on the packer.

I'm both shocked and impressed URM bought new trucks, albeit crappy Dennis eagles. Are the hazards set to flash automatically? That hopper cover seems pointless as the pendulums are touted to be a clean pack, anti litter escape hoppers. Is it a council requirement for lids shut or just the usual factory warranty extra slow speed setting?

Council wants lids shut and bins standing up back where they where found. Arms do flick the lids open cause most drivers tend to leave the first and last bin on each street with the Lid open to show the streets been done.

A surprise for many amongst us, even a surprise for many of those working for the company no doubt! :P No chance of being allowed to get second hand, let alone being able to source what they needed. I understand low entry trucks was a requirement of the contract, so they basically had a choice between the Econic and Elite... Dennis has come a long way here since 2011 anyway. Not sure about the hazards, didn't really notice and cbf checking to confirm now. I guess the covers have merit if the hopper is overloaded above the pendulum seal, otherwise they're probably not too necessary, same with the rear loaders, packer lowered = hopper covered. Thought it was almost a standard thing for lids closed in contracts... but it seems more the initial factory setting with slow lower + closed lids effect.

@@Garbo164 I absolutely hate it when they don’t flip lids especially when it’s a truck that is able to flip lids

Good video. These new trucks look really nice. Shocking that URM decided to purchase brand new trucks. Do you know why they painted the trucks in different and unusal colors? Sadly URM got the contract again, i thought the council had enough of them after 10+ of crappy service. On the other hand, they lost Sydney so theres some good news too :) . Do these new trucks colllect Manly too? Does that mean that there no more Heils? The new bins look good too but the older bins like the Sulo2 where better.

They do stand out quite a lot! A Google search with the right keywords will bring up a couple great photos of the trucks lined up, featuring one of each colour together. I think the idea came from what Blacktown Council has done - they were the first to do it with different colours representing different community campaigns. I was half surprised and half expecting about them getting the contract back, but money and power talks, at least they're a step above the past with a new fleet at the beginning of it all. Yes all these new coloured trucks now also service the former Manly area, which also means the Heils are gone now. The council does all public litter bin collections themselves, which is what the existing Manly garbos now do with trucks run by the council.

I love the hopper cover idea. When did that even come in.

As far as I know the first place this has been done is here on the beaches, closest you'll get to something similar is Solo RR with their curtains you pull down over the hopper. The new little rear loaders NBC has purchased of their own for litter bins are also fully enclosed, much like security destruction trucks with the hydraulic rear cover.
