I have taken NR for four years, and upped my dose to 900 mg about two years ago. I am 72 and feel about 45. I haven't been sick from anything, and my skin is now smooth rather than rough as it has been on my elbows and knees.

Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people by surprise, unexpectantly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death. While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the war, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes. Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way. It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it......

I also started taking NR about the same time that you did. I had a massive boost in energy that lasted for a few weeks, then faded away. Since then, I've switched back and forth between NR and NMN, but I've not experienced that initial surge again. Recently, I started watching Dr. Brad Stanfield's channel. He did some research on different NMN brands, and found that a lot of them when tested actually had no NMN in them! Life is complicated, and it's hard to figure out what is really having an effect, but I think that I've had a better experience with NR than with NMN, but that could entirely be because my NR is from TRU Niagen (from the guy that initially found NR), and that the NMN brands that I've been taking all pretty much are crap. So that says little about the actual relative effectiveness of NR vs NMN. (Though it say a lot about the supplement business). Part of what makes evaluation so difficult is that when I get more energy, I tend to spend it all exercising. Which makes me more tired the next day. But I feel that when I'm exercising, and coming into it rested, that the NR does still help. I think another part of being human that makes evaluation more difficult is the way that we reset our expectations to the new normal. Sure, I might have more energy now, but I'm exercising harder, and overall feel the same. In any case, right now I'm taking niacin, NR, resveratrol, and TMG.
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 3 года назад
Thank you so much for sharing this. I can totally relate. Maybe your levels of NAD+ are increasing and you don't notice the surge of energy, but overall your body is doing better, working better, and you are exercising more. Sometimes it is hard to tell or even notice that you are still having an increase in energy from a supplement. But, once that energy level dips, then you notice. It is so difficult to figure out. :) I've heard that over-exercising isn't good either. I did that years and years ago and burnt myself out severely. I guess it's good to push yourself, but not over the top. Maybe it would help to lessen that a bit. Just a thought anyway. Also, I saw Dr. Brad's video as well. I like the Alive By Science products - really innovative, though I am biased. They have sublingual, liposomal and transdermal - ways to enhance the bioavailability of the ingredients into your bloodstream. :)

So nmn is what is in the mitochondria that turns into nad. But heres the thing, nmn cant get into the mitochondria. It has to convert back into nr, go into the mitochondria, then convert back into nmn before converting into nad. So basically, if youre taking nr, your skipping a step in the chain of events. The nr can go into the mitochondria without converting into anything, and therefore is absorbed a little easier. That probably explains why nr works better for you.

Hi Holly, very informative and interesting. Great introduction to NR and NMN; very helpful. Re: energy levels; purely anecdotal, but it seems from the comments on my channel that the be people who noticeably feel a boost in energy etc. are those who were either older or were more sedentary, this may also support the theory that a body really needs it. I would be interested to know more about your reason for not buying from Infinite Age any more. I agree, every time I upped my dosage of NMN I had increased appetite and disturbed sleep too :(

Hey Vince! So glad you watched. I hope people check out your channel as it's all about this topic and could be very helpful. Thanks for sharing that info about energy levels and comments people tend to make on your channel. For me, my lack of energy has been pretty up and down - possibly related to poor sleep and some other things. When I have energy I am as productive as possible. The NR has helped a lot with boosting the energy. When upping my dose though, I've never had poor sleep on it - kind of the opposite for me, though I've only taken 3 capsules at the most. I do notice the increase in appetite though. Also, if you ever feel like diving into InfiniteAgeCo, let me know. I am skeptical of them. I'll have to share that with you later. :)

Also, you should try taking benfotiamine which should synergize well. Also, you can try doing advanced tests for insulin resistance like HOMA-IR and 5 hour insulin and glucose challenge.

I have started taking NMN which I bought at Donotage. I had tried NMN and NR in the past and felt that I had a reaction to it. I convinced my mother to try it and she said she also felt she had a reaction to it. The first attempt was only 200 mg and the Donotage capsules are 1000 mg, so I didn't expect it to work for me. But, everything went OK with no reaction. Like you mentioned, I have noticed more energy. This just seems impossible. I have been embarrassed about my general clutter, and noticed that I just started organizing things automatically. BTW I have taken a lot of niacin, because I read a book by Abram Hoffer about niacin. I used it for pain relief because of rheumatoid arthritis. I did feel this worked too. My last blood tests for a routine physical were surprising, with my lipid profile being stellar. The tests before that weren't stellar, for sure. So the only thing in supplement land that I can praise as much as NMN and niacin is broccoli sprouts. But that a food, not a supplement.

So, now I take Thorne Research (ResveraCel) once or twice a week and just started with Alive By Science - SC NMN capsules (TMG + zinc) intermittently between the ReveraCel. So far so good. The SC NMN capsules are a time release, which is great. Hope this all helps with my experience and helpful.

Thank you so much for providing us your experience with NMN/NR. That being said, I am happy you had a very positive noticeable effect with the NMN/NR.

Hi Dr. Casey! Thank you for the comment. I do need a good functional medicine doc. There aren't any in my area, so I consult with one who is 8 hours south of where I live, but I think I need someone new (with my region of the state at least). I did the DUTCH complete test on my own & my functional doc looked at it - actually had very low cortisol. Although I have had great results with NMN, I still have issues with my thyroid. So, thank you for the reminder and advice. There just aren't many options by me. I can't even find a doctor nearby who will prescribe my NDT (natural thyroid medicine). Anyway, I just subscribed to your channel! Thank you for the comment! Have a great weekend.

@@LifeDIY man that sucks you don’t have anyone local. That is the downside to functional medicine, is that there are so few of us out there that it’s like mainly large metropolitan areas. I’m in miami for example. A good functional doc won’t just diagnose your adrenal deficiency or hashimotos, but will ask the deeper questions as to why you have this to begin with. Given your improvement with NMN, maybe a mitochondrial cause. That being said, in my experience usually not just one cause but causes. Anyways I hope you find someone who can help you put the pieces together. Good on you for researching and bio hacking yourself!

How old are you. I can understand wanting to get ahead of the game, or, if you have health issues, but for someone as young, vital and lovely as you, I would think you would wish to take it slow and realize you have much time ahead to ease into this. I just began a program of NMN, Resverastrol, Querciten, and Apt???? whatever the hell it is. I am 73, have been a vegetarian and health conscious avoider of fast, processed, fat foods, since age of 23, and have had great luck with remaining healthy and vital. That has proven out for me. Now that the science has begun to show veracity in the slowing and reversing of age, I am, understandably intrigued, and am jumping on board as much for quality of life as I age, as I would be to live longer. I have little to lose by going for it. Thanks for your viewpoint and best wishes for a long and vital life.

Thanks so much, Clifford. That's great you recently started on NMN, Resveratrol, Quercetin and Apigenin? Those are the big ones. I am 39. Some people tend to start on these supplements around 40, though some people are younger. I was dealing with a lot of fatigue before I got on the supplements and so far they've helped with that a lot. I'm feeling pretty great, other than a shoulder issue. I too take Quercetin and NMN. If you ever want to chat with others who are on this journey, you can may want to join reddit and chat on there: www.reddit.com/r/NMN/ and Alive By Science has a subreddit too here: www.reddit.com/r/AlivebyScience/. It's nice to chat with others doing the same thing. I've been doing testing of my NAD+ levels and my biological age (epigenetic test called MyDNAge) and it seems the supplements are helping! :)

You seem like a really sweet, caring and humble person. I can see you get emotional when you talk about your lack of health (swallowing a lump in your throat) pior to taking NR, it seems you've gone through difficult phases in your life. Have confidence in yourself, you are doing great and your video will help many people. I notice the same hunger from NMN. I started with NMN and found that even at 125mg per day, it can push me too hard, especially mentally (a bit like Ritalin), with or without TMG makes no difference. Like you I tend to take only twice a week. I have also taken NAD+ complete which combines NR, NMN and NAD, and I tend to prefer that one, I feel more of the relaxing and quiet energy compared to NMN. I haven't tried NR in isolation and now feel that maybe I should. Do you notice a difference in effect between NMN and NR other than the hunger feeling?

At 59 (male) I experience the same thing and have noticed it in others who take NMN. For me it's the number one noticeable effect. I find that since starting NMN it has short term and long term effects, both being the same but the long term effects (i.e.If you stop taking it for a while) improve your general health let's say 10% to what it was, while short term effects (within an hour of taking it) boost the effects about 70%. Each time I stop using it, there's always a definite improvement on last time.

Thanks so much for the nice comment. I have learned so much since I posted this video. I am going to do a major update video soon. You are right that sometimes a lot of NMN is necessary for it to really work. But, if you take a form that gets into the bloodstream better (liposomal), then you don't need to take so much. Also if you take too much NMN or NR, you can cause issues due to excess NAM. I've been taking liposomal NMN and also monitoring my NAD+ levels through bloodwork, and it's working well. I am going to do a video on that too. Thank you again for your comment!

@@MsSilkyJuneja there was a study published out of France in 2012 using C60 that increased lifespan of the rats by 90%. They generally live about 2-2.5 years and the rats lived to 5 years with C60. It was from a company called SES Research, Inc, based out of Texas. I take their C60+olive oil variant. I have done pretty extensive research on C60 and it seems much safer than NMN. NMN sounds good, I'm still researching, but there is the propensity for it to increase risk of cancer in some people from what I've read. I will probably try NMN at some point, though. I take NAC daily and S-Acetyl L-Glutathione about 2x/week. NAC replenishes intracellular glutathione, and the Acetyl variant of glutathione is more readily absorbed by the body. So, on the days I take S-Acetyl L-Glutathione, I don't take NAC. I'm also looking into Nattokinase and Serepeptase. So far I'm liking what I'm finding in the medical journals/research papers. All of the aforementioned with exception to NMN have inhibitory activity against SARS-CoV-2. I take melatonin as well, which is a powerful antioxidant and has been used to treat COVID patients as well, but in high doses (36-72mg taken 4x/day). I take zinc + Quercetin and D3 with K2 (MK7) also, as well as a multivitamin with selenium and Resveratrol. All of these also have inhibitory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effects against SARS-CoV-2 and pretty much act as prophylaxis. Been taking since Feb 2020 and never caught COVID, nor anyone in my family. VitD acts as prophylaxis due to D3 causing viral infected cells to undergo apoptosis. 9/10 patients that have died from the RONA are deficient in VitD. Also, selenium, melatonin, and L-Glutamine deficiencies also affects the outcome of COVID patients. Check out Dr. Neel's high dose melatonin video on RU-vid. Learned a lot about a variety of supplements that are beneficial for your health, and as a bonus they all are effective to one degree or another against SARS-CoV-2, so I revolve my supplement stack around that. Hope this helps

NMN really shows drastic results in people who are either chronically ill or over 60. My 83-year-old mother started taking it November 20, 2022 at a dose 500 mg per day. At that time, she weighed 85 pounds and couldn’t walk without a cane. Had to hold onto to furniture to walk around the house had no appetite. Flash forward to today she’s gained 10 pounds. She’s now 95 pounds and does not require a cane, does not have to hold onto furniture when she walks around the house and she can taste her food again, she didn’t realize that she had lost her sense of taste. That’s probably why she had become so frail. For myself, I’m 59 years old have been taking it over the same period of time and have noticed weight loss, increase muscle tone, better sleep, sharper, focus, and cognition (my dose has been 1500 mg daily) I also added fisetin once per week 500 mg. I'm 68 and have been taking a gram of NMN daily for almost four months. The results are fantastic. I have more energy than I have ever had, even when I was young. But what I have found is that to be really effective, the NMN has to be supplemented with exercise. It seems to give me a little more energy to exercise, and if I take advantage of that and do exercise, the energy multiplies, and keeps multiplying the more exercise I do, till I start craving exercise all the time and jump on the exercise bike every chance I get. But if I can't exercise, the effects of the NMN are not so noticeable. BTW, haven't noticed any effect on my skin so far.

Can I just say that your NAD levels at your age is still pretty high - it decreases rapidly with age. I started taking NMN, TMG and other anti ageing supplements I can afford. 4 years ago The company I use is a British company called DoNotAge it only produces pure products and explains each supplement and it’s benefits it has a group of scientific researchers who are on the cutting edge of this subject, you don’t sound as if you have looked into these things in an in-depth way. David Sinclair has written a book about NMN and the science of ageing and becoming ill, He says ageing is an illness and and we don’t need to have it. He believes in Health span, rather than lifespan although he thinks that age will be extended. My own experience of starting taking in NMN at 70 has drastically changed my life. I can go up ten flights of stairs never touching the hand rails without noticing it, not so before when I was noticing the tole age was having on my health and abilities. people of forty are huffing and puffing while I race ahead !!. Don’t be so uncertain find out about things, never buy things off Amazon most are fakes & the reviews are even more so. Go and look at Vince’s site my NMN experiment. He stared taking NMN 3 years ago and he roots out the fake sellers there is a recent review on the types of products sold on Amazon & Amazon itself is currently banning fake products. Hope you read this and it helps.

Hi Angela. I am so sorry for my late reply. I planned on replying weeks ago and not sure what happened. I am sorry you are dealing with the thyroid problems. That is terrible and I can relate. I used to have that symptom of my thyroid swelling and hurting a lot also. I would have that when I would eat gluten or just when the autoimmune issues was flaring up. I haven't had that in years luckily. If you have some time, I highly recommend checking out the website of Izabella Wentz - thyroidpharmacist.com/articles/. She has a book that also helped me immensely in getting to the root causes of my problems. You may also want to check out or look into something called LDN - low dose naltrexone. My doctor prescribed it - though I had to be totally off of gluten and dairy - and it drastically improved my life and my issues lessened so much. At one point I was able to get off of thyroid medicine. I've basically been on it for about 5 years and I have had to change things up since I've been on it so long but it is still helping me quite a lot. That's too bad they didn't even test you. But, it seems obvious based on your symptoms as it is usually Hashimotos. If your doctor isn't helping you and if you want or need my doctor's info, I can email it to you. He is in southern Wisconsin and he takes on clients from all over the states I think. If people can't get to his office (even I live many many hours away) he does phone consults and I think his prices are really reasonable. He deals with people who have thyroid problems - whose doctors aren't helping them properly. Besides that, if you ever needed testing and could afford it, you can also order labs online and you don't need your primary doctor. Anyhow, I just hope things get better. Let me know if I can help in any way. I might make forums on my website and if I do that, I will have a health section for this. Anyhow, hope you have a great rest of your weekend. :)

NR and NMN deplete the body of methyl groups, which leads to elevated levels of homocysteine. That increases heart attack risk. In order to counteract this effect, you need to be taking TMG along with your NR. Also, niacin is another precursor of NAD and it is dirt cheap if you don't mind the flushing side effect. Sustained-release niacin and extended-release niacin don't cause flushing, but sustained-release niacin is associated with liver damage and I take plain old niacin (500mg) to be on the safe side.
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 2 года назад
Thanks, Richard. I agree that it's possible for methylation issues when taking higher amounts of standard NMN or NR. But, if you take a form that is more bioavailable (lipsomal) it will be much less of an issue. Many people take TMG just in case though. I do as well. If anyone is interested, I could always do a histamine & homocysteine test sometime and share the results when taking TMG vs not taking it with NMN to see what a difference the TMG can make on the levels.

I continued to feel absolutely dreadful mentally but around 5pm I went out and did some shopping. I didn't notice anything at first but the further I walked the more I realised I was speeding up, and on my way back from shopping I was racing down the road. My legs just seemed to want to work as fast as they could and with ease too, I haven't been able to walk like that in years. I love your username CatMan. And, I am so sorry about the health problems. Chronic health issues are extremely difficult...I really hope you continue to have increased energy from the NMN. For some people it happens a bit right away and for others the results happen over time. I have a newer video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-admkZ0AbqOE.html sharing my story of health problems and my experience with actually taking NMN, if you want to check it out. Have you found any other supplements or medicine to help you at all, before the NMN?

@@LifeDIY Hi and thanks. My cats have saved my life on a number of occasions. I was taken by surprise at how 'eager' my legs were at wanting to walk today as I hadn't expected any results from the MNM for at least a week and I felt groggy all day, so had no reason to expect any effect. But I usually struggle to walk and left home without even testing to see if I could walk normally, I adopted the walking style that avoids causing me to veer sideways but suddenly I felt my legs just wanting to do more and it was quite fun to be 'in action' again. In fact a friend shouted out to me along the way and commented on how fast and well I was walking. I started a number of health foods and supplements designed to tackle heart disease but stopped after three days due to another episode of extreme tiredness, so thought I'd give them a rest until I was ready for them again, but then the NMN arrived from the US and I was eager to start on them. I hope this carry's on. I will watch you new video now, thanks.

@@LifeDIY Yes, notifications are a bit unreliable on YT. I meant to post an update today anyway. I've been on a low dose of 100mg per day and had simply amazing results but stopped them for three days as I found them a bit 'heavy' on the mind. But started again yesterday and was astonished this morning when I managed to do quite a bit of exercise without any indication of Angina, usually I have problems even at rest and even after taking the angina tablets. One of my biggest problems is mental effects, fogginess etc, and it doesn't help with that, but activity wise, I'm now walking at a fast speed like I used to 6 years ago, and find that the more I walk the faster my legs want to go! I'm still trying to work out the best way of taking it, I think the idea is to have a few days on and few days off. It's sill early days but I recommend everyone to try it. My cats are my life ^..^ and they've saved it as well a few times when I've had a stroke in my sleep.

When I started taking NR and NMM with resveratrol I had the most vivid dreams, nothing bad...it was like living two lives and I was excited to go to sleep in the evening. The effect lasted a couple of weeks. The excitement about NMN is that it requires only one reaction to make it into NAD+. David Sinclair seems to think it is slightly more effective then NR but offered no proof. I take a bit of each, NR and NMN, about 500 mg total between them. The other niacin that recharges NAD+ is nicotinic acid, it has it own pathway but requires several chemical reactions for the conversion. I take 500 mg to 750 mg a day...super cheap but it does cause flushing, that is why I take 250 mg at a time, above that and I flush. If you don't go into a deep flush....it feels really cool. :) A full flush with itching sucks. :(
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 3 года назад
Thanks so much for sharing some of your experience. The dreams sound fun! I've also read that NMN might more easily convert into NAD+. But, taking all three types sounds like a great idea too. Did you notice changes in your energy or health overall? I noticed I'm able to exercise a lot more, where I had very little energy to do so before. I haven't had a niacin flush before - sounds like a hot flash. :)) Thanks again for sharing this! And, when did you start taking these?

Really interesting video! You talked about fatigue...do you feel that the NR & NMN has stabilized your energy levels much more now? And do you feel a change now after almost 2 years of taking it compared to when you put out the video? (when you had tried it for 9 months)

@LifeDIY 2 года назад
Hi Emil, thank you! I definitely feel it has helped increase my energy levels. I am not sure about NR anymore, as I currently take NMN. I did get a huge energy boost from the NR that I was taking in the beginning and I am sort of convinced it was from the resveratrol or the combination of resveratrol with a NAD+ booster. I am super sensitive to resveratrol. It really amps up the energy for me. I am still taking NAD+ boosters (NMN specifically now) and I feel like my energy levels have stabilized or raised higher than they used to. And, I even feel like I don't need to take it everyday and I can take lesser amounts and still feel great. :)

I had a very similar experience with increase in energy levels when I started taking NMM supplements as you had when you started the NR. It was quite pronounced, a really kind of clean, motivated energy. I’m not sure if I still feel like that, I think my baseline energy has improved a lot so I don’t notice the effect anymore. I have a much more pressured job that I never though I would keep up with before. I exercise most days. It’s definitely not a cure all… I’ve still had colds etc but I feel healthier at 43 than I did in a lot of my twenties to be honest! That’s probably down to a lot of other factors also.

I helped conduct a trial that lasted several months and you can see some details and results here: alivebyscience.com/renue-serum-trial/ and it really helped improve the skin for many people. Other than that, I would recommend either a retinol type product and/or the use of glycolic acid peels somewhat regularly. I think those help improve the skin so much. They help with cellular turnover and renewal. Have you tried many skincare treatments or products?
