Went down to the North Saskatchewan River to do some fishing. Ended up catching quite a few fish. Time well spent!

I am in Saskatoon and I fish the river to but I did not think you can keep the fish
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 4 года назад
It's not recommended but you can! The mercury levels are pretty high and they suggest no more than 1-2 a week.

that Walleye is why I don't like fishing the NSR. At least around Edmonton. If a fish probably isn't going to survive I want to at least be able to eat them without worrying about mercury and shit. Good catches, though!

Yeah, its pretty tough... My grandpa has eaten walleye from the NSR for as long as he can remember and he is healthy. I imagine the early colonists around here ate from it as well. I've heard its mostly the sediment that contains the mercury, I really hope its not us humans ruining it.

How many bait you can have at once ..bits look like you have more then 2
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 3 года назад
You can have up to 3 hooks on your line at once in Alberta. I'm using a pickerel rig here which has 2 single point hooks and a pyramid weight on the bottom.

do you ever get them with lures at this spot? lure recommendations?

also what bridge is that in the background
@KruksYT

You may be able to jig with a green jig but I never really use lures at the river. It's so murky that you need bait. The fish will hunt with their scent usually rather than their sight.

Can you eat the fish from the NSR?
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 2 года назад
Some do, some don't. Lots of Edmonton's waste gets into the NSR. If you go more remote its likely not the worst thing to do.

Never caught a walleye in the river with a pickler rig

What bait do you use?
@zackk2746
@zackk2746 3 года назад
@@KruksYT in the river, dew worms, frozen minows, make sure to salt them if not salted, shiners and smelts also work. Throw out a spoon to for pike sometimes walleye
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 3 года назад
@@zackk2746 I usually catch walleye on worms in the river but every other fish likes worms as well so its hit or miss..

what was your setup?
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 4 года назад
I usually run the Ugly Stik Gx2 combo in this river with some pretty hefty line. Not only is it a fast running river with lots of debrie but it also has the occasional sturgeon in it.

You shouldnt hold the fish and squeeze it by the gills put your thumb inside of the gills and if the fish won’t swim away rub them on the side
@danielfrechette2938

That’s what I meant haha couldn’t think of the name or do it bass style a lock jaw them
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 4 года назад
@@danielfrechette2938 Gold eye have wayyy to small of mouths to lock jaw. They're also tricky because the bigger ones are like a football and you cant wrap your hand around them. They're just completely awkward. And walleye - everything on them wants to hurt you lol. I've learned to grab them by the belly.

@KruksYT
@KruksYT 4 года назад
I was fishing in Canada - the North Saskatchewan River it's called. I think they're also invasive here but according to the fishing guidelines they're catch and release only so I don't think we can shwak 'em.

Just west of the high level bridge on the north shore in Edmonton. Have you ever fished the NSR?

Kruks yeah i’ve fished by goldbar park. I’m just trying to get my brother on some fish 😄. I also just started fishing last year. Only been catching pike and walleye
@KruksYT
@KruksYT 6 лет назад
Nice! Most of the Gold Eye were on a silver Mepps. The walleye were on the pickerel rig with night crawlers. It's not a bad spot but it can be very slippery. I might see you down there sometime, if not, let me know how it goes!

Kruks I’m pretty sure I actually saw you one time! I checked out your channel and i watched he video of you catching a pike 2 weeks ago and me and my dad were there with you! We were the ones to your right behind the bushes. A few minutes later a family came and caught some fish. Me and my dad got skunked :( but thats how it goes sometimes

Oh, that was down at Whitemud creek! I liked that place at first but after a while I lost interest. That location seems very pressured which makes fishing very hit or miss. I rarely see people at my spot and I end up catching more.
