Fabulous video, Kendra! I'm not a nutritionist but when I reviewed all the studies I could find about nutrition for fertility and egg quality, I came to the same conclusions....eat nutrient rich foods, keep blood sugar stable, stop restricting and learn to listen to your body's cues. I see a lot of fertility/egg quality "diets" these days that promote doing an elimination diet to identify food sensitivities, as well as sometimes general advice to avoid dairy and gluten. My sense is that this could be important for some people, but for a lot of people (most perhaps?) it's unnecessary and just creates a lot of stress and a general 'fear of food'. This is just my intuitive sense though, and I'm curious what your take is from working closely with people around their nutrition.

Thanks, Natalie! I’m sure you’re not going to be surprised by my answer 😆 I’m not a fan of elimination diets or really any form of restriction. People experiencing infertility are at an increased risk of developing eating disorders and disordered eating is higher in this population. So it feels far too risky to me to encourage avoiding foods. Plus many of the foods people are told to avoid are actually beneficial for fertility. But I also respect people’s right to make their own decisions about their bodies. So if someone decides to do an elimination diet, I really think it should only be done with the guidance of a well-trained nutrition professional. Self-guided elimination diets can go very wrong. I’ve worked with way too many people who never realized they were supposed to reintroduce foods. Often they end up undereating and unnecessarily avoiding beneficial foods. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop myself here.

@@LiveFertile We are so aligned on this. I have felt intuitively that there's a trend toward an unhealthy relationship with food in the way the fertility education arena has been developing. I like that you called out the risk for disordered eating. It's a perfect storm for creating a very dysfunctional dynamic. I feel like my take on food for fertility is much more "yes" than "no" and I'm happy to find someone else speaking to this in such a thoughtful and educated way.

I used to eat lots of vegetables but it gives me bloating and low energy. Tried carnivore diet for a few days and felt great on it - no bloating, great energy through out the day. There have been lots of talks on carnivore diet for fertility, what are your thoughts on it?

Hi there. Variety, diversity, and avoiding extremes are the foundation of my approach to nutrition. So I'm not a fan of the carnivore diet. Plus, I've never seen any research suggesting it's beneficial for fertility. What I can say is, I've worked with plenty of people who, in an attempt to eat a healthy diet, overdid it in the fruit and vegetable department (leading to bloating from too much fiber) and inadequate calorie and protein intake. In their cases, adding in more protein-rich foods, especially animal-based protein was helpful. But that's not the same thing as following a carnivore diet. They simply needed more balance not a new extreme.

I would love to take supplements but Im not able to swallow capsules. Can you please suggest an alternative such as powder supplements that you recommend?

You’re not alone with that! I struggle with it too. I know there are some gummy CoQ10s out there (I think Natalist has one and of course, CoQ10 is found in the foods I mentioned in the video.) I have a whole video about easier to swallow options for prenatals. Here’s the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NAgInOyUYx0.htmlsi=4zQ_Jj2gQbbhma8g
