Was lucky enough to be able to get both cards on launch days and decided to go through some benchmarks in F1 2020, ACC and iRacing. As a bonus some 10900K vs 3900X with the RTX3080 at the end of the video!

Awesome to see the benchmarks since almost all of them so far have only looked at single-screen settings which isn't always the most useful for those of us doing sim racing on triples.

Great video Dan! I‘ve been looking for benchmarks of triple 1080p setup but not been able to find many. Actually for the X-Plane flight simulator instead of iRacing but your results for iRacing give me confidence that I must be able to get decent fps with the configuration I had planned in X-Plane as well. I prefer your calm and to the point way of presenting over the horrendous over-the-top style of some tech review influencers. Keep up the good work 👍

That was great, Dan, it puts everything in proportion in a way that the manufacturers don’t often do! Some videos on the basics would be great - for example, I spent ages learning left foot trail braking, but useful though that is, I gained more time by reducing the steering ratio down to 900 so I could correct oversteer more effectively. Also, a few videos to prepare people for the demolition derby that is iRacing rookie racing would probably be well received! After all the info iRacing put out about how responsible everyone is expected to be, I was completely unprepared for the reality - you aren’t even safe staying at the very back, because they keep repairing and diving out of the pits to kill you! My favourite so far has been a double t-bone which left me laughing so much I had to pull over - and I still finished fifth, despite not overtaking anyone... Just keep it up, mate. I haven’t had so much fun with a game in ages.

Dan, big thanks for doing this. This is the first helpful benchmark for sim racers. I finally managed to order both a 3080 and 3090 to try out on my Odyssey G9. Based on what you’ve learned I’ll probably be keeping the 3090. I also flight sim and MSFS 2020 is really heavy on vram so it looks like I’ll be breaking my bank with the 3090!

Most vr headsets are able to run maxed at 90fps with a 2080ti, maybe even a 2080 or 2070.. Any of the 3xxx cards (3070 or above I guess) will be well more than enough for vr. The only effect in benchmarking them would possibly be for the valve with “experimental 144hz” or for any future headsets that can run higher than 90hz.

Awesome stuff, just what we like to see. VR is the one thing I would love to additionally see since there are plenty of us VR racers but others have already shown that the 3080 is fast enough to make VRT possible in ACC and that alone makes it a worthwhile card to own. It is just a matter of finding one for sale...

@@DanSuzuki The most important thing is - Can it maintain the native framerate or will it drop to reprojection mode, this makes a huge difference in my opinion. It would be pretty interesting to see if there is a difference between 2080Ti / 3080 / 3090 in VR with High presets or if VR Users are limited by the CPU (when we drop to Reprojection)

Thanks for doing this Dan! Also please continue testing ACC even if it may have some issues. On my AMD pc i had to disable fullscreen optimization and set DPI scaling to application for more stable framerates. I believe ACC can get unstable with some overlays like monitoring.

Great stuff! I've got 3 x 32" 1440, was running on i74900 and 2x980ti. The new machine is coming this week! Ryzen 5800x and 3080! Seem the perfect match for the monitors as they do 75hz. Great Video Dan, Love the racing benchmarks. As a sim racer I haven't seen anybody put out good sim racing benchmarks. Please do more sim racing benchmarks! I'm planning in Zen3 5800X upgrade but still waiting for video card info as it looks like Radeon 16GB 6900XT is going to be competitive with the 3080 forcing Nvidia to release to 20GB 3080. Waiting for one of those two cards.

Nvidia is going to release a 20g 3080 regardless of AMD's performance level the question is when and what will the price tag be. Granted serious AMD competition may get that 20g card released a little quicker and at a better price though. Only thing I would not hold my breath on AMD exceeding the 3080 performance level. Most reports from reputable sources (non fan boy articles from either side) predict the AMD6900 16g card to fall between the 3070 and 3080 on the performance scale. Faster than the 3070 but slower than the 3080. If that is true look for a quicker release of the already leaked 3070 16g ti card with boosted clocks to match or try to exceed the 6900's performance level at around the same price point as the 6900.

This video was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Have been holding out for a 3080. Currently running a 3600x and 5700xt on 1440 triples, so your benchmarks on cpu were clutch. Will definitely look for your benchmarks on the new amd cpus coming out soon.

I did Assetto Corsa 3080 VR test using Content manager benchmark tool with Reverb, if you go to 250% and max settings gets you 78fps so you could easily max it out..... However on online racing I seem to get fps fluctuating alot not sure how does online differ from benchmark tool, I run at 150% SS and not even maxed out I can see sometimes fps goes to 45 to use the ASW thing

Dan this is exactly what I needed as I'm wanting to upgrade 3x1080's with a 2080s to triple 1440p. Do you think you could do one more quick benchmark and let me know how it goes? Triple 1440p in iRacing at Daytona at night? The night racing in iRacing with a bunch of lights rendered can eat a GPU for lunch. It can close in on ACC level demand. Unchecking higher detail in mirrors saves a ton of FPS though.

Great comparison here, ty. Currently running ACC on triple 1440p monitors w a 4th screen at 1080p on a 3080ti. I run the game 1080p in a mix of epic/high setting and foliage, fog, etc in mid settings in order to maintain decent frame rates and not roast the graphics card. Hopefully Kunos better optimizes the game or we wait for the 4090 to save us.

Thanks for these niche benchmarks which most media leave untested especially triple screen setups. I personally have 3x 4k 32inch triple screen setup and im getting 3090 for acc, ac, ets2 (sadly my msi 3090 order still did not arrive since 2020-09-25) I currently run them with my gtx 1070 and in acc with 4k triples lowest graphical settings i get 24-36fps, ac1 low-high settings solid 50-60fps. For acc its good idea to lower mirrors resolution and shadow quality few notches down and then performance gets decent. What i can say that 8gb vram is NOT enough for triple 4k, lowest settings on acc, dont even think that 10gb will be enough still on lowest settings, i havent tested but high settings on 11520x2160 res acc should require more than 10gb, so thats one of my excuse to buy rtx 3090 :D

this helps me massively Dan, just make me confirm that i want a 3090 despite the price on that thing, just bought triple 1440p. Nobody else that I've seen has done benchmarks for racing games like this. I hope that you can do the same benchmarks when the new ryzen cpu comes out.

Do what you want but a 10% increase in fps between the two cards is equal to 100 dollars a frame. 3090 isnt made for gamers. Way overkill for gamers

Dan love the videos please keep them coming. Sorry, I did use twitch but, I'm s subscriber on RU-vid. I'm looking to upgrade from a 2080 to a 3080. In Iracing do you recommend for triples running each monitor separate or Nvida surround enabled and do you have SMP checked.I run triple 32"s just looking for the best setup with what I have. Hopefully the 3080 will help the 3090 is just a little over priced IMO.

Yeah definitely enable SMP! I don’t use surround, mainly because it doesn’t work with my capture card, but I think it makes things easier in a lot of cases

So I just upgraded from a 2060 to a 3090, changed a couple settings like the sky and pits from low quality to high, ramped the memory up and just changed the mirrors from 2 to 4, and I’m barely getting over 60 FPS... any chance you could do a little video on the settings you used? Cause this doesn’t seem right. I’m using a 49” ultra wide 1440p and Ryzen 7 3700x. I did an F1 2020 benchmark, Ultra High + DLSS. Avg 106 and Max 120 FPS.

Thanks for this! I have a 2080 ti hydro copper, I will wait till EVGA comes out with a 3090 hydro. Water cooling helps in that you can overclock your graphics card if needed :) I am wanting to move to 1440p triples but right now I have a 75' Sony TV that I can set to 1920 x 1080 at 120 mhz with V-Sync ( 3D TV's can do this ). I prefer though to push out the 4k 3840 x 2160 at 60 mhz V-sync'd. With V-Sync the picture looks amazing( very high settings ). Did you run any tests or have monitors that support G-Sync? My TV does not, so I rely on regular V-Sync. If I missed that I apologize, thanks again for the good reviews, like most folks, Racing benchmarks are very welcome!

Check your gpu usage with afterburner, your not maxing out your card, My 1080ti is at about 90% utilization with tripple 1080p.

Do you have VR headset? Because the resolution is low and maybe compareble with 1080P benchmark My 2080ti can not drive good in VR in comparison with my 40 inch triples @ 7680 x 1440 resolution because in VR gpu utilisation is only 60 % and with the triples 98% So i’am very curieus if the 3080 or 3090 can drive a VR headset in high framerate with a high GPU utilisation In high graphics detail in ACC and Iracing

Were you rendering the full field on the imsa races? I'm able to get about 120 fps mid race on my i5 6400 gtx 960 12gb ddr4 if I run mid-low graphics, single 1080p, I couldn't imagine how big of a jump in performance I could get if I made some cpu/gpu upgrades Also managed to win gte in split 17 at petit lemans :)

Tracks are triangle dependent, a oval track be 7/8/9/10 times smaller than say just 1 large track say Spa so you’ll see a massive difference, but great comparison roughly what I was seeing in ACC

i would appreciate it if you would somehow be able to test this setup in VR as well, most preferably a pimax or valve index, kinda hard to find a VR test of this kind of high-end pc in iracing

I havnt long bought the 3900x (1080ti) running triples 1080p 144hz.. its just about coping with iracing + streaming + all the overlays ect (single pc) 3080 be a good step from here? Or do I really have to consider building a 2nd pc. An pos going intel route 🙄 CPU less than 30% v GPU 98+% mostly iracing)
