This is like a BIM technology in a very large scale. As a designer, I see the omniverse is a tool for design and innovation. This tool will dramatically increase the accuracy and efficiency of design and innovation projects. Omniverse is different from FB's Metaverse.
BIM technology is 20+ years behind what Aerospace & Automotive have been doing with CAD/PLM since the 80s. I do not see Ominverse a being a replacement for CAD/PLM .... actually I don't see Omniverse as a coherent product at all; but that is most likely attributable to my ignorance of the product, for now.
@@BeppeRGDL you should see what BMW and Siemens are doing with omniverse. The data they are imparting into the digital twin is literally a large scale CAD
i totally agree what omniverse heading now is different from metaverse. But do you think once the technology is well polished through industrial use, it will be capable enough to go commercial and become a virtual reality as well?
@@x3LightNinG i personally imagine it should be not hard for omniverse to become a virtual reality for commercial use but I doubt if Nvidia want to do that because this company has been doing things behind the scenes. They are more likely to do B to B businesses with omniverse, in my opinion.
It would be interesting to have a 3D overlay to a city where you can find all kinds of interesting stuff, with information about restaurants and gyms, which you could click on and get more information. I suppose like a 3D clickable googlemaps. Also you could walk into the buildings, if you have the permissions of course, and perhaps go to work, buy stuff, socialize etc.
Omniverse is a 3d modelling and physics tool build by NVidia for photo realistic presentations. To get from that to some kind of universal 3d virtual world is a very far stretch. Its like Microsoft saying MS Word is some kind of Universal translator that will allow all people in the world to communicate using the same language. I am all for great visions, but this is 99% hype and 1% tech.
Fully agree. If one were to believe their pitch you'd think they master CAD, FEM, Fluidic simulation, manufacturing end to end process simulation, PLM, etc... A tall order even for all mighty NVDA.
It's because of lockdowns, but Omniverse is a toolkit for developers and media producers. It's in open beta and you can try it for yourself. GTC is for professionals, so this video is trying to market nvidia goods to other businesses. Facebook Metaverse is for the average joe

Can’t fix the real world since everyone has a different idea on what the “fix” will look like. Things are way too political in the physical world. In the virtual world you can find your niche.
the virtual is only possible from our understanding of physical. And the impact on our physical world is real. This isnt imaginary cities or cars that they were talking about in the keynote.

The answer is no, in order to create a success meta verse you have to make peolpe feel like they are better in a digital world. there is pros and cons on this tecnology but everybody can chooise the kind of life thet want it to live... i 100% prefer to spend my time in a real world, real people.
this is more promising than facebook metaverse because, it's coming from the angle of design, engineering, simulation, which is made to be accessible virtually and allow for multiple collaborators. a Metaverse designed by productivity software already in mainstream enterprise level workflows then later the social aspect ontop of that is the right approach because it truly gives the participants in the Metaverse full Content Creation capabilities, then just add the NFT blockchain technology to mark the creation of digital assets, and now you have the perfect metaVerse, Mark Zukerberg needs to colllaborate with Jensen Huang if he want a real chance at capitalizing on the MetaVerse industry!
This is something I’ve been thinking about since I read the book The Singularity Is Near. If humans ever become completely virtualized, one of the main jobs left will be creating things in the virtual universe. Interesting to see an idea similar to that presented here.
No man. I work in a warehouse and they have a bunch of technology however they still need people to open and close boxes. People are cheaper and more flexible and resilient than stupid machines and VR. Will never happen.
@@Galbex21 Will never happen, for now. I disagree on people are cheaper though. Car manufacturing are automated and tons of other products are automated because it's more cheaper. Computers and robots doesn't complain and they can do it 24/7. Some areas of robotics and AI are expensive sure.. for now.
The point of a metaverse is that there are no "versions" of it. It's like saying Facebook, Google and Apple should have their own "versions" of the internet. That is not what the metaverse is, such things would exist within the metaverse.
@@Moctop I really hope it turns out this way. The reason why the internet became a level playing ground for everyone was because it was mostly initiated by the US government. I doubt Facebook, Google and the other big companies are gonna come together on this one. The'll invent their own glasses, worlds, documentation etc. Unless I am missing something here though

Exactly! I was wondering that for years too. Also, why no simulations use interchangeable assets, not to mention adopting inter-sim communication akin to what the military use (different sims model different things, but the results can be seen across the grid).
@@Moctop yeah but its far from practical in its present state. you have to jump through lots of hoops to get results. i hope one day, you can just transfer over EVERYTHING like materials, sims, animations, etc

Hahaha I seriously doubt 90% of engineering firms use Bentley software. I work with a lot of engineering companies and exactly ONE uses Microstation. Everyone else is all Autodesk all the time.
Yeah i am IT support for few companies and they are using bentley too. Its popular tool for this type of things like Office for document writing and Adobe tools for design.
A lot of criticism that we want to escape reality here. Got your point. But it is not to escape reality but to extend it. Our problem is that we are overproducing ideas, as our creative brains work nonstop. However it is very hard to make our ideas into reality and there are hard physical limits like the amount of materials you dig from earth. This will help a lot of people live better lives. Imagine you are talented artist in Zimbabwe with low demand for your services. Now you can create for the whole world and people can consume your work instantly. Think of this like RU-vid (and opportunities videomakers-youtubers got) - but for everything and everyone else.

This is what happens when some ultra lucky tech companies get more money then they know what to do with it. As Nvidia was simply a graphics card in a PC once upon a time. Goes to show what could be manifested with the right minds, creativity, resources at hand and time invested with the right intentions. I like it all but the implementation of $ into 3D objects limit the creativity and freedom of people playing in this omniverse. People should go into the omniverse or metaverse to escape and be freed of physical constrains, not to be constrained further

The biggest problem with all these "verse" ideas is that VR headsets make 40-70% of the people who try it nauseous. Theres NO WAY most people are going to be spending most their time in VR, not a chance.
phones were bulky too, and eventually they became very portable. VR headset would probably turn into small chips that somehow directly connects to your neurons, which then trigger these"verses" or simply create augmented reality on demand. think 'neuralink' by Elon Musk.
Bruh, everyone in this world has VR goggles on. It's sad that people are so immersed in this material world, now that they will be a whole simulation inside the material world people are going to be even more lost and will never find there true self.
