Bought this off Deutche Auto Parts for my B7 A4 and I love it. I can throw it in my glove box and pull it out when I need it. Can't do as much coding as with your wife's Tiguan mostly because it's 2005 technology. But I was able to add the remote windows, seat belt chime delete, and door chime delete. I also was able to switch my headlights to Euro Mode which means I can have fog lights on with the high beams and my turn signals don't illuminate when the headlights are on, unless I hit the turn signal stalk. Love this tool
Getting an Android dirt cheap is real. I was able to run to a local Rite Aid today and pickup a LG Optimus Fuel for $21 and it supports the app. So its honestly not that bad.
I've had an OBDeleven for a few weeks and it's working pretty well. I'm enjoying using the apps to change preferences on my Mk7 Golf. I've also been able to pull ABS and Airbag lites from my MkIII GLX. I haven't started to figure out any of the coding or how to manually change things, but you can get up to 6 free credits daily just for letting the app show you advertising. Most changes cost 10 credits, so with just a little patience, you don't pay anything. Reading diag codes is free.
Most of the guides for VCDS are detailed and it's the same steps for OBDEleven just make sure that you look at the numbers beside each option within the menu :)
@ I'm a fucking apple user and I rebuild engines, design electronics, and do any fucking DIY I want, so the next two words I should say to you are obvious. BTW - Android users (not user's) can't do grammar for shit.
One more aspect regarding credits....these are pre-assembled applications that are made for people who want a quick fix, and cant be bothered with going in and understanding the coding changes needed to make whatever you need to work....work. You CAN go into the coding and adaptations and make the changes yourself once you understand what elements need to be modified or changed. It really is not a big deal to do at all. For me, I used the internet forums to get a list of modifications and code entries. Once I understood what the coding did, I put it in and tested it, and it works. Apps again, cost money, not a lot if you are in a hurry. I bought some, and then for additional tweaks, I surfed the net, got the coding changes from various websites and forums and made the changes myself. Easy. On a final note, you DO NOT need the apps to perform the coding. It is a convenience only, as all options for coding can be done manually by you. BTW, I am not in any way associated with this product, I purchased it, and learned how to use it. All fear of VW coding is now a thing of the past for me. Paz, M
Charles, thanks for the review. After viewing this (and going to DAP's site), I bought one to clear my air bag fault after my battery went dead a week or so ago - not only did it work fine for $55, I was able to turn on the comfort windows as well - bonus!!! Great tool, my '17 Jetta SE doesn't have as much configuration available via the dash as my '10 Jetta TDI, this helps close the gap.
I was lucky i got carista a few years ago and paid a one time lifetime price of £15 before they updated to the subscription and i still have full access for life. I also use carista all the time connected to Dashcommand on IOS for lap times, realtime torque, BHP, fuel consumption and alike. I really recommend carista.
Had something similar but spent a little extra and got an Autel MaxiDiag Elite. Covers Euro, USA and Japanese vehicles. Not fancy but does a decent job
Looks like a great device/app to have with some people that don't work on these types of vehicle often and would rather not spend extra money on an additional more expensive diagnosis device.
Bought the vcds cable for £15 of ebay and work great u can do anything u able with £300 cable It conect everytime and work well With vw golf mk5 and vw touran 2010 and sure many others The best £15 I ever spend saving me 70 pound each time for diagnostic by dealer
Major thanks for this video!!!!! I cant say how much I appreciate this! I am about to buy a Tiguan so this tool will come in real handy. Your videos are very informative. Keep up the great work....
@@HumbleMechanic So would I have to purchase 10 credits every time I needed to reset a service oil light or if I needed to do an srs reset? or does spending the 10 credits for the "app"/function permanently unlock the use of the feature?
I just order it and in jonction with my otel scaner i think it will be a great tool for the price. I work in an independent specialised in vw and I think it will prevent us to buy the really expensive vw stuff
so, i didint want to buy this because i didni't think it would allow you to write code to it (For example Remote window function) soo. now since you explained all this!! Im going to buy it! Thank you very much!
Very useful. On my Audi A1 I have the rear parking sensors but not the front. With the fronts too, the visual aid on the main screen appears when reversing. With just the rear fitted this option is disabled. With this kit, I was able to activate the graphic of the car, with visual space being show. Very good. They started making the A1 in 2010 so I assume that this situation could be carried over to A3 etc of the same age. Very useful.
I really wish I would have known about that device before I bought my Bluetooth device from Walmart for $50. $10 more I could have gotten a much more powerful tool that is more directed to my Volkswagens.
when i got this it worked great, with all of the updates it took away the throttle positioning ability away, it is very slow and basically i feel your better off with a Ross Tech device. i tried to contact OBDeleven but no reply. I have not tried to newer version, my trust value with the product is not quite there any longer. (01 MK4 Jetta 2.0)
After watching all these VW videos I’m more and more impressed with the amount of time and effort it takes to bring a car to market, think about the effort and time it took someone to program your ecu
I guess the guys who program the ECUs are Software Engineers. As a student, it’s quite fun to program anything! Never figured out how to program a VW though. 😂
I've never seen anything better than Vag-Com, I've had VW techs tell me they would prefer it over the factory tool but they are not suppose to use anything other than the factory tool.
It depends on your perspective; @$250-$350 compared to a pro level Snap On, OTC or Matco scan tool, there is no comparison, it is an incredible deal, in the pro level tool world. Those devices cost thousands of dollars and you have to continually pay for software upgrades, to keep up to date for the new vehicles, that keep coming out. VCDS has FREE updates for life and this is pretty much unheard of, in the pro scan tool marketplace! I bought my VCDS in 2007 and I can scan the latest VW/Audi cars, even up to 2016 and beyond! I don't know; of any scan tool, that offers that kind of compatibility long term, there is a reason techs are upgrading and trading in their old scan tools all the time. Ross Tech, also has real tech support; call in by phone or specific registered users only forums and they respond quickly, to any questions posted! I have saved thousands of dollars; in repairs by having and using VCDS. Now, having said that; $250-$350 is a financial investment but it paid for itself, the first time I used it and it helped me fix a airbag light and told me exactly what problem was (belt buckle receiver on drivers side). I bought the part from my VW dealer; installed the new part and cleared the code, done! Think about it; if I had taken my car to the VW dealership, the repair cost would have high. Most VW dealers are now $100 plus an hour labor rate and my repair cost, would most likely been more than the cost of VCDS! Thus, it paid for itself; in this first repair alone! :) The point here is; get a VAG compatible scan tool, no matter which one you buy or how much you spend, as it potentially can save you thousands of dollars, over being at the mercy of a VW dealer or even a VW independant shop. Knowledge is power and having a VAG scan tool, is the beginning to get the info, as to what is going on with your car. If you cannot afford that; there are alternative chinese VAG scan tools for less and this Android based OBDeleven scan tool, is most likely the type of tool we are going to see in the future. The chinese hand held tools; can be clunky to use, have limited to no support and the included manuals are typically unusable. So, is VCDS that ONLY option out there? No, there are more and more scan tools available everyday for the VAG world. However, if you want a solid VAG scanner; that will be compatible, far into the future, has true USA based human tech support you can actually talk to on the phone, true diagnostics info/forums online and will not screw up your car when programming or coding something like the immobilizer or key matching, go with the REAL DEAL VCDS! You will not be disappointed and I have never regretted purchasing it! Frankly, my VW would not be on the road today, without it! :)
the thing is that i'm not in the US, those 350 quickly turn into $600 due to expensive shipping and insane customs, add a devaluation of 15:1 to the US dollar and you can quickly do the math that it turns into practically an entire month's salary(if not more). instead that $60 obdeleven can pass under the customs radar, meaning it will cost me probably less than the fees on the vcds ALONE for the entire thing
Well, each of us; has a different situation and you need to figure out, what works for you. I have heard; many south american countries have insane tariff and duty fees. Depending on your country; some countries, have their own VCDS distributor, which may make it cheaper to purchase, than importing the product yourself into your country. In this case; this tool, could do pretty much what VCDS can do but you might just need to play around with it and research, the process of what you want to do. For the price and customs issues; this sounds, like possibly a good solution for you. I can only assume; that the software, is going to be improved as time go on and this is just the beginning of the product cycle. It already sounds, like they are going to add capabilities and features in the future.
I want to access. Module “08 - AUTO HVAC”, Long Coding, Byte 4 and change Bit 4-‐5, Set: “10 Recirculation Air Settings (after Ignition Cycle) stored” Will I see that text or will it be all just in bit terms?
Got the Carista and it basically changes nothing on my 2019 Jetta. It does scan for codes fast though. Couldn't even change my car so my fob could open my windows. They say more will come in the next Beta but I'm leery... Good thing is you get a free week or month (forget which it is) and can buy for a month or a year to use it fairly inexpensively.
My Tiguan doesn't have a CAT, and therefore I have an engine light that'll never go away. Could I use the OBDeleven to wipe the fault indefinitely or even have the 02 sensors stop reporting errors?
One thing i see as a downside is that there's no "labels" for the data channels, so unless you have a guide printed or remember by heart what does each value in each channel is you're SOL. You also can't monitor several different channels at once(useful for some pesky troubleshooting)
I have a 2004 Audi A4 1.8t I recently took out the battery and sent the car into some limp mode iv been told I need to set the back to "factory settings" would I be able to do that with this tool ?
Hey this was very informative but i didn't get one point that after installing retrofits, then only we have to do long coding or we can directly enable it through apps section?
The short answer is. NO The unit costs 60, the unit with pro costs 80. Once it arrives you find out that you need credits to use it unless you are going to long code yourself and if that is your plan its still not worth it because vag already does that and costs much less. Got mine to unlock video in motion. You need 100 points / credits to do that one thing which will cost you another 15$. You can watch ads 5x a day every day for around 3 weeks to get those. If buying something and watching ads for 3weeks so you can use it one time before watching ads for 3weeks to use it again sounds like a good deal to you, then ,,,.. well , what do you really say to someone who thinks that sounds like a good deal.
The problem with video in motion is its in that liable area if you had an accident so unless its a buddy doing it for you most shops would and probably should say for their own sakes say no to doing it. So this or vag com might be most peoples only option. I will say that I just barely went out and enabled VIM after writing that and it was both easy to do and worked. If they gave you 200 credits to start with (thought they did when I bought mine, but apparently that was just a limited time promo) I would say yes this is worth it, but buying something for 60-85$, and then having to right out of the box spend money to start using it is not something I could or will recommend. I bought mine over 3 weeks ago, and have had to log in and run 5 ads every day just to finally use it once today. A more fair system in my opinion would be to give buyers access to what is out there if they buy pro, and charge credits for any new aps designed to reward future development.
Charles, OBDeleven will most likely never go to Iphone since Apple doesnt allow for Applications to access the Bluetooth Directly. I was part of a car club that Was among the first people in North America to get these. it saved my but on a Roadtrip with a P2015 Fault code. and resetting the Maintenance interval after doing oil changes... Too bad I already dropped 400+CAD on a Rosstech Cable...
+brad450 agree on the IPod thing. Kinda stinks but android devices are pretty cheap. I love VCDS and it will continue to be my go to when I am not using factory stuff. But this is a sweet alternative for a lot of people.
Charles & DAP, at this point in the video 3:55 there's discussion about needing to know what we (DIY mechanics) are doing or search google for the information. If the manufacturer of the scan tool designed the tool DIY mechanics, isn't it reasonable to expect to have a resource from the manufacturer that provides all necessary information for the scan tool i.e. codes that may need to be entered? If I'm looking at this the wrong way, please let me know. I'm interested in the tool but if it works well for mechanics who know the codes but not necessarily for DIY mechanic who do not, what good is the tool for a DIY mechanic? The app interface looks user friendly. Great. However, I'm concerned that ease of use and effectiveness for a DIY mechanic falls short.
I have an Atlas. Id like to OBDELEVEN unlock the ability to roll down windows with remote, gauge sweep, video play for touchscreen etc... but I don't want to effect my warranty. Will doing this coding effect warranty ?
Still thinking of getting pro for iPhone Can vw mechanic find out if I make minor app changes and then change back to stock when going back to dealership? Afraid of voiding vw warrenty
the keys in my 2010 VW Jetta stopped working. They will no longer unlock or lock my car via the key fob, only via the actual physical key. I've tried all the tricks to put one key in the ignition with the other in the driver door to re-sync the keys to the car, but nothing works. Batteries are brand new. I read that when both keys stop working, you might have to reprogram. Will this OBDeleven allow me to reprogram the keys?
I found my obdelevenpro app to be very slow to start and then it wouldn't work - at all- without internet, so I sold it at a loss to get Ross-tech VCDS and have something reliable. I found out when I sold it that you cannot sell the license you bought with the device. Everytime the device changes hands the new user has to buy the license again. Sorta like if you bought a computer and bought and installed Windows but then would have to buy Windows again if you give it to your brother. Never seen this type of business model and I am glad to be done with this device. Buyer beware, with OBDeleven, it's all about the company's well-being, no concern for user convenience nor rights. Microsoft is fairer and friendlier to it's users and that's saying something.
What does it mean to "have all of the consumers shut off" as mentioned at 2:16? Does it mean things that will consume battery life like lights, radios, etc.?
I know kung phu...a friend is considering this for his 06 T1 'egg, cuz as you know, some VWs don't age as well as others...even my 04 gti could benefit from this so we might go in halfzees...and I'm considering a GSW/Alltrack so it's usefulness to me could be long lived...Happy Friday 13th. 🦄 Cheers
Can this tool shut off abs codes? I run a collision repair shop and sometimes need to shut lights off. I just realized you have printed articles in a tool magazine, keep up the good work.
I haven't figure out what I'm doing with the tool yet, but I have been able to use it to read ABS and Airbag lights with my 98 Jetta, so it will read older vehicles. The tool also does a good job of changing the coding on my new Golf.
Hello Charles I have a 2003 Jetta 1.8t with Transmission problems I replaced the solenoids and need to re adapt the shift parameter which scanner would you recommend for this year car for readapting gear shifts thanks
OBDeleven cannot support iOS (iPhone or iPad) because iOS does not allow 3rd parties to use bluetooth radio. The only workaround is to use custom browser frontend on WIFI AP (which requires that the thing with the OBDII connector includes WIFI access point). This limitation is caused purely by Apple. Android allows free access to 3rd party bluetooth devices and can supports devices such as OBDeleven easily.
Can this device/app be used for a specific coding? I'm in process of upgrading from halogen to bi-xenon headlights and I'll need do do some changes to the central electric module after the hardware installation. To be more specific, I'll need to enable and disable certain bits in certain bites such as deactivating the high beam, enabling the xenon headlights, the auto headlight levelling and headlight washer system. Can I use this device for this purpose or I want too much off a $60 thing?
The capability was awesome, but the hardware ended up failing on me. I stored it in my glovebox and one of the interior components came apart (could hear a rattle inside it) barely outside of the warranty. Wish I just bought the entry-level VCDS for $200 instead of sinking $80 into a now-worthless chunk of plastic + $30 for a burner Droid.
