02:52 - Just in case you lost that small dialog box (lower left of the viewport) right after adding a mesh, you can still recover it by pressing the F9 key on your keyboard.

Was actually coming to the comments to say the same thing (lol but the video is 2 years old so of course someone should have already posted that ^^) One of the things I retained from "making a donut" with Blender Guru XD a while back.

Great explanations! Thanks a lot for the series! If anyone wants to use the cursor snapping with "Right click select", then use the cursor tool (second one on the left side, rigt click it to set a shortcut) and then just left drag with Ctrl. Also for anyone getting weird snapping for the cursor make sure you selected the snapping type as described at 4:42.

Snapping the 3D cursor, using CTRL. So it's Shift-Rightclick then MOVE, then CTRL to turn on snapping. Took me a minute. Shift-CTRL-Rightclick doesn't work, Shift-Rightclick CTRL doesn't work, you have to Shift-Rightclick, then MOVE the mouse, then hold CTRL to get snapping on. This video is packed with things to try!

Oh man, this covers some real fundamental stuff I didn't appreciate before, even though I'm only like a couple days in to learning Blender. Great explanation, you seem like a solid teacher and I feel like I've barely gotten to hang with your content just yet. Easy sub!

If you haven't yet, I enjoy both Maker Tales and Blender Guru. For organic modeling, I definitely recommend Blender Guru's donut tutorial. For precision modeling, I'm really loving Jonathan here. Both are great teachers and since their methods and reasonings for using Blender are slightly different, you get a cool well-rounded experience, approaching from different perspectives ^^

So what surprises me is that I am self taught on Blender other than using tutorials on You Tube and Udemy about making things, and I still find little things that I missed, and or they didn't teach in the use of specific video's/courses. So its like becoming a Brown Belt in Karate, but you missed just enough stuff that you can't finish to being at the Black Belt level, or in a sense you can be a Black Belt, yet you don't know some things that a yellow belt knows because you missed those Kata's. Anyway I am 3D modeling some elaborate Star Trek models that I am 3D printing, and not knowing some of the Curve menu operations, and or array techniques makes me do certain things the hard and time consuming way to accomplish them. After I finish this I think I will take your paid course. I also might have to learn a CAD program, but If I can do it in Blender I would be way happier about it, as I have used it for 14 years.

I can't seem to get the CTRL+SHIFT+Right-Click snap thing to work (5:24). I'm using Blender 3.4.1. James [Got it! CTRL key after I move it, er, kinda!]

I read "We always delete the default cube" is a blender meme, kind of a habit action in the community. Is that right? And that there's nothing really wrong with that cube, but if you want a special cube you may benefit from the creation dialog options in the lower left.
@TheSockMonkeyGuy
@TheSockMonkeyGuy 3 года назад
When you snapped the 3D cursor to the face of the cube, I noticed that it also rotated the 3D cursor (presumably aligning it to the angle of the user's view). Then when you added a new object at that location I expected the new object to be aligned with the orientation of the 3D cursor, but it wasn't. The new object was aligned with the world grid like all of the other objects. What is the purpose of being able to rotate the 3D cursor?
@Keep-Making
@Keep-Making 3 года назад
Short answer I don't want to give to much info too soon and long answer once you create a new object open up the dialogue box on the bottom left and there is an option there for 3d cursor orientation. Hope that helps

Hmm, here snapping works different. I can't use crtl/ shift rightclick, nothing happens. But shift/rightclick move and add crtl later to snap on the vertex. Works in Edit and object mode. Don't know the reason.

@Keep-Making When I snap my 3D cursor on faces or vertices of an 2 mm cube I only sometime get exact -1 mm coordinates, sometimes they are 0.99, 1.01, 0.9905 etc. means somehow close but not EXACT which I like to have for precision modelling. What I am doing wrong or is this a Blender thing?

When using the middle mouse button (MMB) to constrain movement of an object, I'm not getting exactly what that's supposed to do. It appears to allow me to change the X Y constraint interactively (and shows a dotted line that ends where it would go in X Y space) but it just keeps the moved object on either the X OR Y axis when I finish the move. Is there a way to get it to constrain on BOTH X AND Y when using the MMB, so the end result of the move places the object somewhere in X Y space? And what's the difference between constraining with the MMB and SHFT MMB? Thanks.

This sounds to be like your trying to get a plain constraint... do do this just go shit+(axis you don't what to move on)

My attempt to get the 3D cursor to snap to a vertex does not work. I have the snap to vertex set in the upper pull down, hold down the cntrl+shift+ Rclick, but the cursor does not move. WHY? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Not a fan of jumping right into keyboard shortcuts. That requires a bunch of memorization, OR I have to rewatch your video 100x to figure out how to do something. Showing a beginner where the menu selections are, is easier to start out with. I also fail to see how taking my hand off the mouse to use the number pad for certain things is going to increase the speed of my workflow.
