Join Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum as they share their pinhole point of view on this week’s review of Smallville Episode #20: OBSCURA.
The guys grapple with the suspension of disbelief surrounding this particular FOTW episode and explore the drama surrounding the “Clana” vs “Chlark” relationships being developed.
Tom fondly remembers the technique to some of the oners in this episode and finds flaws with some of the logic with Clark’s powers we see.
Michael realizes what he’s been signing all these years and has issues with Jonathan Kent being too obvious in this episode. BIG finale next week. Don’t miss it.

It's beyond hilarious that neither Tom nor Michael had any idea what the octagonal keys that fans had them sign referenced. Especially since the damn thing is such an important plot device for the show the following 3 seasons. Really highlights the difference between what stands out in the minds of people watching the show, compared to the cast helping to create the show.

i think the reason Johnathan Kent was so up in arms about lex excavating in that field is because Kent knows lionel help them push Clarks adoption through. though lex and Clark are unaware of that information at this point in the timeline. Jonathan doesnt want Lex and LIonel connecting the dots about the "found child in the field's" adoption and the spaceship. Personally im glad they rescued the girls by the end of the episode and didnt drag it out over several episodes. i enjoyed the clairvoyance storyline.🌹🌹I really liked how Clark punched thru the ground and drags chloe out of the ground coffin and all. Chloe was probably too grateful to be rescued she didnt bother to wonder how Clark did it.

I love the patron’s theory about Lana drawing people to her, because every meteor freak and psycho in the tri-county area makes a beeline straight for her. Also, Jonathan’s continual mistrust of Lex does add to his journey to villainy. The writers do a great job of chipping away at his goodness, be it from Clark’s gaslighting, Jonathan’s seemingly irrational mistrust and Lionel’s machinations (and eventual preference for Clark). Thanks, guys!

Chloe was definitely in shock when Clark unburied her, and in absolutely no condition to question the circumstances surrounding her being saved. There's actually quite a few times that both her and Lana both come very close to uncovering Clark's secret, but his saving grace is their confusion and shock. Even if she recalled later the circumstances surrounding her rescue, she would most likely chalk up any irregularities to her being in shock, or misremembering things because she was in shock. If there's one thing you can always count on Chloe to be, it's pretty logical.

Even though we don't know that yet, Lois (and Lucy) is the only cousin Chloe ever mentions so we can assume it's her. Thank you, Michael, for saying exactly what I've been saying about Lex for most of my life (yes, I was young when Smallville came out 😅)! 100% Lex's downfall was in large part contributed to by his father's shadow (not to mention his father himself). Lex was so mistreated by so many people way back before it was warranted, and I definitely think Jonathan Kent played a decent part in that too (from several conversations, not just the one). It was mostly a self-fulfilling prophecy on the part of Lex's cynics. He was the victim that never got saved, as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, thanks for another enjoyable podcast episode, guys. I can't wait to see what's planned for the finale. (Get well soon, Ryan!)

One good thing I will say about having the longer 20+ episode seasons is that it gives the audience more time to spend with the characters and get to know them... The length lets you build a bond with the existing characters, especially if they are written consistently. Sometimes you don't really get to have that with the newer 8-10 episode streaming shows these days. I think its why so many people are still fond of Smallville. The amount of time we spent with the characters is something that is tough to replicate elsewhere.

Then the Kents keep telling him to leave it alone but when you think about it, why should he? He was directly involved in the crash. It involved his life as much as it involved Clark's. Lex was jealous of the Kent family and how close and supportive they were to each other, it's something that he once almost had before his mother died. So being outright rejected by Jonathan hurt him more than just the simple lines would imply.

I do like how you guys try and identify a plausible explanation of how Kryptonite powers are created/bestowed, work....its fantasy but you guys are trying to make it real... just like the rest of us fans. Another great podcast episode!

I have to agree,, Allison is an acting genius really. Loved the episode, guys. Am so thankful for every Wednesday. This episode was dark and confusing in a good way. I love Clark and Lana. Probably too much. But when Clark punches the ground and rips Chloe out and she says "It's always you" the romantic in me wants them to be together. Great episide. Started off fucked up but in the end i loved it. Thank you, Tom, Michael, and Ryan. Look forward to next week! Love you guys for doing this..... Also read an interview with Justin Hartley and he said he had no clue about the Smalliville animation continuation?????

The best part about this week’s episode is the synopsis and the resultant friendly banter between Michael and Tom and of course Ryan at the end. Smallville had some good scenes especially the end one when Lex’s curiosity was set-alight 🌹+1/2

I was in high school when this show started. I had a rough freshman year of college and would watch episodes I had taped when I was feeling lonely. It's still a favorite comfort show. Really enjoying this podcast. 🥰

Obscura, with Lana ’s accidental visionary abilyty,tells us about the relationship between Clark and Clhoe in relation to herse, to Whitney also. And Lex’s thirst to understand the meaning of the meteorits shower , the spaceship with the " special object ", doesn’t mean for me any dark intention from him at this moment and you are all right in saying that the episode encouragés us even more to know the rest of the show. Happy to see that Ryan is going betterave to see Jason’s beautiful hair 😂 Thank you so much for these rich Wednesday, a treat 👍👏💙❤💖🙌🙌🙌

Ok, the notification having the "shipper terms" in them gave me very brief nam-esque flashbacks to those CW message boards. Man, people believed in those terms like they held the secrets of life, love and happiness. But the fights that happened over it. It's probably good those boards were purged long ago.

I binged most of these episodes, so now that I only have one a week… IT IS KILLING ME! But I really enjoy it! Keep it up, guys!! ❤ And this is one of those episodes where you are convinced that everyone in Smallville must have some good therapy because Chloe being buried alive, Lana seeing through the eyes of a psycho who is then shot and killed… those alone are enough to send someone over the edge. And we are on season 1 😂

Funny how Lana wore that chunk of kryptonite around her neck for all those years and it didn't do a damn thing to her. But _these_ chunks of kryptonite are a few inches away from her face for a few seconds and boom. Plot-driving psychic powers. I guess it was the explosion, right? Just add fire?

Chloe mentions that she was meant to be staying with her cousin in Metropolis. Presumably at the time it was just written as a random unnamed relative, but of course later in the show we find out Lois Lane is her cousin.
@notsosuperpete1689
@notsosuperpete1689 Год назад
@Twitter Is Cancer Not entirely sure I buy that. Central City, Bludhaven and even Batman are all also referenced in the first season, seemingly more as acknowledgement that the world outside Superman also exists rather than any specific set up. Also wouldn't Lois be maybe 16 at this point, so Chloe would say "staying with my uncle" rather than "staying with my cousin".

In some ways, Johnathan Kent had a hand in turning Lex into the evil lex we come to know. He's a great Dad but often a jerk to Lex for no reason. I love that the story is so nuanced- lex is intelligent and has a curiosity for the unexplained things that have happened in his life. Unfortunately, Jonathan's mistrust of Lex and protectiveness for his son cause the Kent family to constantly gaslight Lex. I'd probably turn into a villain too if my closest friend constantly made me question my reality and their family constantly questioned my character despite trying to prove myself. In many ways, Lex and Chloe are not so different - Lex is only seen as dangerous because he has the resources to look into these mysterious occurrences.

I can’t express how happy i am listening to you two, it’s so fun to see what you guys think of the episodes. For Example how lex always tried fighting the bad and Clark definitely helped him with the friendship, but then lost Clark and his mom long ago, has a horrible father. I feel sorry for him honestly he deserved better. For the title I gotta say I am team Chlark all the way haha but Lana and Clark is amazing as well but he has this whole real friendship connection with Chloe, while Lana is always just a crush.

Love this podcast! :) I love it that Clark did a double save. I love it that this episode was somewhat different than the freak of the week (nothing against freak of the week), because this time Lana had the powers. Clark was very sweet to invite Chloe to the spring formal. I especially loved it that we got a hint about Lois, long before she was on the show 😍 this episode is fun. 2 roses from me 🌹🌹

Just rewatched The Justice League Snyder Cut, and Joe Mortan played Cyborg's father. Not only did the Snyder Cut give more light on Cyborg, but MAN, it let Mortan shine too!!! I teared up when he died, because this cut got you invested in his character, and he played that part to PERFECTION!!!! WOW!!! It just shows what just AWESOME supporting actors this series had!!! Btw, the "younger version of Blue" reference is hilarious and spot on!!!! LMBO
