Join us this week as Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum revisit Smallville Season 2 Episode 9: DICHOTIC… Not only does the show welcome a notable guest star in Jonthan Taylor Thomas, but our pod gets graced by the one and only, Aunt Nell herself, SARAH JANE REDMOND.
Yeah folks!
Sarah remembers what it was like during the early seasons of the show, her connection to David Nutter, and a crazy story of how they made Baby Lana cry in the Pilot.
While Michael grapples with the idea of every character acting crazy in this episode - Tom talks about working with JTT, the insane Lana dam stunt, and another “damn who’s that” Pete moment.

I don’t think Lana moving in with Chloe was out of nowhere. In the previous ep, Lana was researching how to become an emancipated minor and Chloe walked in on her. That’s how Chloe got the idea to ask her dad if Lana could move in with them.
@jerodast

Yeah it honestly was weird how they seemed caught off guard by both that and the bit where Martha started working for Lionel. I thought both of those were well set up by previous episodes. I would guess it's because they did the previous few episodes in a batch, then paused, and by the time they came back to get into this one, had forgotten some of the details that set it up.

Yeah... I'm trying to figure out if it's because they're older people now and forget stuff. As someone who is almost 40 now, I forget details of things that really seem like they should be easy to remember. I'm saying these two are elderly, but I have noticed across the episodes that they even forget details of episodes they're discussing right after they've watched the episode. Tom often sounds like he's been distracted when watching the Smallville episodes, maybe because he has little ones running around.

I loved the scene where Clark stands his ground with Lana and Chloe. A person who keeps secrets is not the same as a person who is untrustworthy or a liar. Clark may not tell them his secrets but he has constantly acted to help them out and that should have counted for something. That was a first for me in the genre of teen romances, usually the guy is just relieved that things are back to the status quo but this time, it's Clark who actually lays the ground rules (even though he'll eventually break them). It was refreshing to see at the time.
@jkhoover

To be fair, Clark also, at one point, says, "What friend would ask you to keep secrets for them?" That's definitely hypocritical for Clark.

@vbrandy7088
@vbrandy7088 Год назад
I loved that he stood his ground too but Clark not only keeps secrets he lies too. Perfect examples is when Lana told Clark she saw him saving her in the tornado and he straight up lied to her by saying he wasn't in that truck. Or when Lex told Clark he was sure that he hit him with his Porsche during the car crash accident in the pilot and Clark denied it. Both Lana and Lex could tell that Clark wasn't honest which led to Lex investigating on the car accident and Lana starting to doubt Clark's word.

There’s still at least one more opportunity to get either Shawn Ashmore or JTT on the pod. Because we still got the episode Asylum in season 3. Which is honestly probably one of the best episodes of the whole show, and is yet another representation of how good of an actor John Glover is. I thought the final scene really had some great acting on Kristin and Allison’s parts. Clark’s words strike them in different ways. With Lana you can see her heart being broken (friend-zoned) but with Chloe she’s disappointed in herself and wants to be a better friend than she was. All this was portrayed and expressed without a word said from the girls explaining it. This ep was underrated because it dealt deeply with the relationships between the characters, imo.

For some reason even though it was unusual for Lex to lose his cool like that, it didn't seem totally out of character at the time I watched it. In answer to Raj’s concern about Clark catching Chloe, they made up some comic book science in the comics to explain this. Superman generates an invisible aura of energy that is both the reason everything bounces off of him, and it helps him lift heavy things without them falling apart under their own weight. So this aura is what protects people from breaking apart when he catches them, or runs them around at supersonic speed. It’s also how he flies. Gotta love comics, when you can make your own science

I think what's being lost in this episode (something i hadn't noticed in all of the times that I've watched this series) is that everyone's other side of their personality was highlighted to show the duality or dichotic nature that everyone has in them, even Clark. I mean when does he ever really stand up for himself when it comes to Lana. He usually takes the L, but this time he stood up for himself. When you look at the episode in that way i think it makes way more sense. Same thing with Lex and Johnathan.

I enjoyed the insights about this episode. Michael, I consider myself a manly man, but I wanted to hug you when you mentioned your mom sending you to school with oatmeal in your hair! Wow. It's amazing you turned out as caring as you did. Last May in St. Louis my wife and I wanted a selfie with you and you held my phone and took like 5 or 6 selfies. You are one of the good guys.

The literal spanish translation of the line: Always hold on to Smallville is: "Siempre aférrate a Smallville"... but in the Latin dubbing of the Smallville finale Jonathan Kent says: "Y nunca olvides a Smallville" which means: "And never forget Smallville". But anyway, it's really cool that you guys try to say that line in Spanish, I'm sure the Latin American fans really appreciate it.

I enjoyed this episode, especially the end when Clark stands up to Chloe and Lana. I really appreciated that he actually stood up for himself since he usually just lets things slide and they tend to take advantage of his kindness. They're always talking about him keeping secrets but he doesn't owe them anything. They don't have the right to know his secrets any more than he deserves to know theirs. He's clearly a good friend and looks out for them so that should be enough imo.

This is an enjoyable freak of the week episode. Jonathan Taylor Thomas played the two timer role really well. I like Helen’s character and thought her and Lex had good chemistry throughout their storyline. I really like how Clark stood his ground at the end with Chole and Lana for questioning him. Clark definitely can be frustrating throughout the show but it was pretty obvious Chole and Lana’s personal grievances with Clark clouded their judgement. This episode gets a rose from me 🌹
@jerodast
@jerodast Год назад
I had forgotten Helen and Lex met in this episode. I looved their chemistry right away, whereas later in the arc they get more caught up in just managing the relationship and butting heads and it's not as cute. Honestly best part of the episode for me, I wish the guys had talked about it more. But the moment at the end where Clark kind of confronts the girls was cool too. Clark is mostly in the right, although it is just kind of annoying that the not-really-romance with Lana is soo drawn out, which is partly his fault. Hard to separate the legitimate teen drama from the show pacing issues with that storyline.

The story about how they got the little girl to cry in the pilot... at first I thought she was just going to say they had her bring her favorite doll and then had her mom take it with her off to the side which made her cry, which somewhat cold-hearted of me I was like "okay, the kid can deal with that". But for a mother to dangle it in front of her face and say "say goodbye, you'll never see it again. I'm never giving it back to you".... what is wrong with people? Jeez. lol Way over the top.

I disagree. Rosenbaum correctly addressed this before when saying you’re not “pissed because you’re working instead of being a stay-at-home wife” it’s also, and chose to work for the man who doesn’t just literally represent everything that’s wrong with the world and is the exact opposite of what John stands for, no, it’s also the guy who blackmailed you into doing probably your most shameful decision ever.. and they all know! Somehow, they’re just cool with it cause, she needs the work. Wth lol

Lots of fun stuff just thrown in around this episode, with nice new character arcs with the whole Lana/Chloe close quarters angle and Johnathan becoming incapacitated along with of course the crucial Lex/Helen storyline. However I do completely agree it was sloppily done as a whole with so many things trying to be inserted to progress the rest of the season however everyone pulled it off!
