Small thing I had a problem with at the dance, when it gets interrupted, they tell them to stay in the gym where it's safe. Now, growing up we'd have safety drills and such for weather and we were always told the gym is the worst place to be during a storm. Mostly because it's wide open and least anchored roof would be easily ripped away.

Love Tom’s comment about Chloe and Clark trying-out a relationship. From all their interactions, I got a sense that they were play-acting a relationship - everything was a bit forced, or in other words, too much. Clark was too attentive. Chloe was too cheerful. Of course, in Chloe’s view, somewhere, deep down she knew this was not going to last. Great writing! Great acting choices.

Smallville was a show that I grew up watching with my dad together. It certainly also helped me dealing with struggles with a disability such as cerebral palsy. I also connected with Clark when I lost my grandfather in 2005. Just as Clark lost his dad on the show. SV also helped me fill the void in my life of not having any friends. Michael and Tom and their characters became my friends week to week. They are certainly True heroes. And I anm happy to have them as part of my life.❤❤🙏

THANK YOU GUYS!! I can speak for us all when I say this means the whole world to us. On Eric Johnson, I’ve read that there was frustration on his part for how uninvolved Whitney was and that he may have had the wrong idea of Smallville being a more of an ensemble show than it actually was. I think it was a mutual parting. Eric went on to star in a few seasons of the Flash Gordon reboot and has also popped up on some cool shows, notably was a very integral character as it turned out to Sam Winchester on Supernatural.

Love the podcast gents. Don't know if this was answered already but when Michael asked "Whitney leaving for the Marine corps can they do that.." it is permitted it's called the delayed entry program. If you are a National Guard or US Army Reserves enlisted trainee you can attend basic training during your summer vacation and then go back to finish your senior year (must be 17 or older) after your senior year or GED completion you will then ship out for your advanced individual training which teaches your military job or specialty. The active duty military does not allow that scenario but the delayed entry program for active duty allows you to sign a contract up to one year out until you finish high school (like I did) prior to departure for basic training then immediately to job training and service. I've been active duty for 24 years (retiring this year) I know a little bit of stuff and forget a lot more lol. Keep up the great work!

The song in the opening scene (Stabbing Westward - "What Do I Have to Do?") is such a quintessential 90s alternative song. Its spiritual successor (Linkin Park - "Numb") would not come out for another year and a half after the airing of this episode, or else that would've been the more contemporary choice for this scene.

During season 4, I starting recruiting friends to watch the show by lending them my box-set of the first season. (I didn't get CW until season 4, so I bought all the seasons on DVD to catch up.) After lending it to one friend, she showed up at my house, at 2 am, frantic, demanding season 2. A day or so later, she did it again, demanding season 3...which I was watching when she came in. So she made me restart it. She loved the show. We talked about how great it was, while we watched all night. It is a great memory of connecting with someone, on a shared love of a piece of culture.

I watched til the end of the episode. Then finally, the announcer says stay tuned for part two of Smallville. It was a rerun show filler. I instantly fell in love with the show!! Later discovered there were 3 seasons in. So I binged 3 seasons in 3 weeks, lol!! I watched the show all 10 seasons! Now many years later I'm watching Rosenbaum and Tom on a podcast of this episode! Thanks guys you're the best! Love this!❤❤❤🎉

I love the show. Own every single season. Was originally going to follow the show along with you, but now I'm half way through season three. Haha. Such a binge worthy show. Haven't seen it in about three years, so it's nice to be back. Seen every episode at least five times. HUGE Superman fanboy and love Tom's version. Edit. Also love that you don't shy away from talking about Allison. All the bad things aside, great actor and awesome character.

I agree, despite what Alison became she did an amazing job with the character, a character that is now part of the official DC universe thanks to her.

That is how I felt watching 24. That was the ultimate cliffhanger show. I was so mad watching this episode back in 2002 and seeing the "To Be Continued" and my daughter (who was 3 at the time) she was so upset because I told her she had to wait a week to see the next episode and kids that age have no concept of time. lol

About the tornado scene with Lana and her back shot getting in the vehicle, I don`t think it was long for me, because it looked like she struggled to get in. It looked like the wind was really strong and she wanted to get in but she was pushed away by the wind, I think it looked super realistic, and even wondered if it was her acting or if they really were blowing her away from the production 😁 I liked the way Clark left the ball behind Chloe`s back, I thought to myself, maybe that`s the way normal people feel it/see it, he just disappears quietly, with no sign, because we usually see him move and run and all due to effects, but in real situation probably the normal human senses won`t catch anything, just maybe a little wind?

Great finale and great Talk Ville episode. At 25:45 to Tom’s point about not shooting a character running away, funny enough I noticed you can see Kristin’s wire for her mic pack when her back is turned. Thanks guys for creating Talk Ville. As a Patreon member, this has been so much fun to rewatch the series with other fans. One thing that I have taken away from this experience is a new appreciation for Tom as a person. I feel like when the series originally aired, I didn’t get a lot of info on who he was. He was kind of a mystery. It’s been through Inside of You and now this season of Talk Ville that I feel I’ve gotten to know him. I appreciate his sense of humor and enjoy hearing his expertise on the show and in the industry. I love the friendship of Michael and Tom and believe that helped make the show so great and now make this podcast so fun. I also have a better understanding how hard Tom worked for so many seasons, but I am so glad he can celebrate now. Thanks to Ryan, Bryce, and Jason and Team Talk Ville that help put this together. Love you all. Can't wait for next season!

I bought and watched the first season of Smallville in 2005. I watched the entire season in 3 days! The finale cliffhanger had me totally spun 😂. Bought the next two seasons (I think) as they were the only ones out yet. I never watched it on the CW because I couldn’t get “caught up” instead stalking Best Buy for the seasons on DVD.Those same DVDs brought me here after my modem was taken out in a lightning storm… had to watch something on DVD. A couple seasons into it this time I was searching Smallville on RU-vid and found this podcast. I am thrilled to go on this journey with you. IMHO Smallville still holds up AND is better than anything that’s on network TV now (and the last five years or so). This finale was crazy good. 3 roses definitely 💯 ❤🎉.

Lex's right eye is the one that gets all bloody, and it's his right hand on which he later wears the glove. When Tom said something about Lex losing half his vision that sparked an idea: it represents the dichotomy within Lex, the half of him that's good (or wants to be) and the half that's not so good. Also perhaps foreshadowing a little to what we see later, Lex as President with the white suit in a nightmare vista: his vision of the future is soaked in blood. And I have always loved the way Rosey played that scene, man, your expression in that scene is SO haunting. Cannot wait for part 2 next week, and for what else is to come! Always hold on to Talkville!

The opening scene - the lighting and angles did a great job of making Lex look small, and more like a little boy; while making Lionel look bigger than life. Which contrasted with their end scene, where the angle and lighting made Lex look powerful and strong and Lionel look small and scared. That contrast really stood out.

One of the best TalkVille episode so far! This was a fantastic season finale and I love that it was a slow burn. I remember when I first watched it in 2002 I was in shocked at that ending Lana stucked in the tornado, Clark rushing to save her, Lionel and Lex fight scene 😮🔥... And like Tom & Ryan I was mad that I had to wait months to watch the next episode. That finale definitely left us wanting more and exicted for season 2! I give Tempest 🌹🌹🌹

Smallville always had the best cliffhangers👍Lex is reluctant to save Lionel! That was the first time I saw something (really) sinister about Lex, aside from future scene in "Hourglass" and ( maybe) spying on Clark. Luthor mansion scene, when storm blows out a window was epic. Reflection of storm lightning on Lex's bloody face was great little addition. Lana and Whitney last scene was touching❤ Cellar scene was great. Rosey >>>>>>Gene>>>>>others. Definitely. Everything in this episode worked really well and was great closure of S1. Looking forward to season 2.🙂

@Michael Rosenbaum, you mentioned that you didn't think it was in Lionel's character to fire those people after giving them a speech, but that is something Lionel would do to punish his son. If you remember when Lionel asked him to fire twenty percent of the workforce Lex came up with a brilliant way to keep the crew and still operate with twenty percent efficiently, Lionel wasn't impressed or happy and responded that wasn't the point, he wanted Lex to fall in line and fire those workers.

Fun Fact: the term "cliffhanger" comes from the old serials they played in theaters before the movie started back in the 30s and 40s. Many of those serials were westerns which would end with the hero literally hanging from the edge of a cliff! You would have to come back to the movies next week to see if he survived!

Lol, Michael High School students don't usually dropout mid year to go to the army but Whitney was a senior and probably off screen turned 18. Which also leans into the senior/freshman relationship that I've always found creepy. And Whitney was differently playing mind games with Lana's feelings and Clark's good nature.

I think the Lex eye thing was indeed some kind of Easter egg because in DCUniverseOnline, a future version of Lex has an eyepatch/piece over that same eye. Wish I could post a jpg but Google has it lol! Also, Tom makes many subtle gags that Rosenbaum doesn't get ...because he's not listening LOL! #ironic [ps-right after I typed that, they found it lol! But I still think it could be an Easter egg since so much of the game draws from canon.]

There were so many highlights in this episode 😅 Respectfully, I honestly think that Whitney's a jerk expecting Lana to wait for him after spontaneously deciding to go to the marines and not tell her. Adding to the fact that he later had the nerve to ask Clark to watch over her, even though Whitney's only been an inconvenience in Clark's life. I also loved the scene with Lex and Clark in the loft with the mention that any relationship founded upon lies is destined to fail, foreboding the fall of their relationship. Lastly, the scene where Lex hesitates in saving Lionel begins to open the curtain, revealing what Lex could potentially become.
