Thats just how it works. It's best to keep the note that gets updates completely isolated to its own note and then on the note where you want to display it use a note embed ![[dataviewnotename.md]]

@@JoshPlunkett Thanks! I thought maybe there was a solution to this. One can get used to it. :) thanks again for the great guide. Without the video, with just the article from Joshua, I would probably have a problem understanding the whole thing.

Capacities works for those where they are taking notes. For TTRPG use though it absolutely doesn't look anywhere near as useful. No statblocks, initiative tracking, encounters, pinnable maps, distance measurement. I can see it does a whole lot of things that Obsidian does already but there's also an equally large list of what it doesn't do.

@@JoshPlunkett I think Obsidian is more of a distraction. We are busy setting up plugins instead of focusing on taking notes. That makes a lot of people more frustrated.

@@pikachuimut certainly at the start. My own experience now that I've stabilised with how I like it, I'm way more productive and quicker with my prep.

@@JoshPlunkett I think it would be a waste because you would have to think about how you store your notes offline. That is very vulnerable in the long term. Also, you need software to take notes every time, because Obsidian doesn't have a web version. I think today, considering the development of AI, the web version is very important, because we can be more productive with AI extensions on the web. I know that Obsidian also has an AI plugin, but it is very annoying and annoying, it wastes our time doing this and that setting. I'm not sure Obsidian really offers productivity other than giving us headaches because everything has to be organized in a complicated way.

@@pikachuimut See I love that Obsidian is offline first. I absolutely detest always online tools in almost all situations. Campaign Management specifically. Obsidian is the perfect balance though. I primarily work my notes offline from my PC. I have those notes synced with a Github Repo though which lets me move back and forth between PCs and gives me version controlled backups. However I also have a selection of notes published using Obsidian Publish. It's literally giving me everything I need. I could have just a selection of my phone if I wanted but I personally don't used mobile devices for writing notes. As for AI, I have AI already. But I think where our opinions differ if you think online AI would be flexible enough to meet your requirements. I see the complete opposite. If you are using an online tool, then you are stuck using the tool the way it has been implemented by the online solution. Obsidian on the other hand has large numbers of different AI solutions that can be tailored to meet the needs of the user. The ways I'm personally using AI in my vault is awesome for my use case but less likely to be implemented by an online tool and TTRPG usage is the minority. The reason I love Obsidian... is it can be customised to meet my personal requirements. I have yet to find an online tool that meets those requirements.
