Well, you're not wrong that some games are better played on the go. But speed run games like Metroid fusion and RPG's like mario & luigi superstar saga feel way better on a TV. If you're playing on a SDTV (like me) the image is only slightly stretched and it doesn't look terrible at all.
"If your home you should play the console games." Why? Some of us don't make that distinction. A good game is a good game, and having a GBA slot on the console made for a good expansion. And the GBA is pretty close to being a portable Super Nintendo, which made playing those games on the big TV again great for some of us retro fans. And it was even better if you managed to snag one of those Hori d-pads. For me, the Gameboy Player was a mini revival of the 16-bit era. It may not have been as pretty, but it was pretty nice none the less.
That thing may cost $40+ now but for the sake of nostalgia it is well worth the price. Like my R.O.B. and power glove, it may not get much use but its just fun knowing that at any moment i can use some old possibly forgotten Nintendo peripherals
Gamecube had the best games ever of every kind. Mario Kart, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Zelda saga with the best of all : Wind Waker, Tales of Symphonia, and so on.... This console is LEGEND.
People can say a lot of things about the cube, but I loved this thing. The control is the most awesome ever made, it feel just right in my hands, just like a well balanced sword (so amazing that never in my life I have used the wii controller, I always used my loved GC controller instead). And it has the 2 games that in my opinion are the greatest master pieces of all time: Super Smash Bros Meele and F-zero GX. I played those two for years and years. Even to this day I occasionally deliver some falcon knee's and win some master class grand prix'es :3
I grew up with N64 and GameCube. I never knew it was a failure when I was little. I just played it because we were a nintendo family. And I really miss those days. Before online play and wireless stuff... Oh and MEMORY CARDS! Now a days we don't even have removable hard drives anymore...
As stated earlier. The GC does have one advantage over the Wii. You can play all Gameboy and Gameboy advance game's on it, with an adaptor. And it is a blissfull retro console when you do that.
Remember to pust the button to eject the games when done playing? Are you telling me there were actually idiots who attempted to pull it out by force? (Whom I kidding, ofc there were). Oh well, 22 mill is still a f***ing lot, and though I didn't get a GameCube immediately, I was absolutely drolling over the advertised games in my Club Nintendo magazine, and I still cherish mine to this day. Truth be told, when I wanna play retro game, I go outta my way to hook up the old console. Wanna play PS1 games? I hook up my PS1, instead of turning on my PS2 that is already hooked up.
The Gamecube is a seriously underated console that I still play today next to my SEGA Dreamcast. Especially when playing your games in 480p via the component cables on a HDTV, the games look great even by todays standards (especially F-Zero GX and Sol Calibur 2). One thing that the Gamecube has over the Wii for playing gamecube games is that the Wii can't use Gamecube hardware and accessories which includes the Gameboy player add on that lets you play any gameboy game on your big screen, also it is confirmed that the Gamecube component cable produces a slightly better quality picture than the Wii's component cable retrorgb.com/gamecubevswii.html. Plus the Wii U is able to utilize Wii hardware and accessories rendering the Wii obsolete either way and is the main reason I chose to not own a Wii
My friends and I have soo many good memories of gamecube games. Even though we didn't play them together (I only met them later on) we still remember the same moments in games.
I wish I had my gamecube still... ;( I broke mine after having put too many stickers on, and have just used my 2006 wii to play gamecube games instead. I still miss my GC.... RIP
well since the gamecube sold alot, not as much as they wanted but still alot, It should be easy to find one for under 200 on amazon. I still got mine from 5 years ago. Still running good.
Alex Thompson I think you're missing the point of why I miss it. I don't miss having a gamecube, and I am still able to play GC games on my wii anyways. I miss having the sentimental value of MY gamecube from MY childhood.
Seagles97 I still have my NES from when I was a kid, complete with stickers on it as well. One day I'm gonna put it on a pedestal with a glass casing over it like it's a museum piece or something, lol.
Terra Branford Nintendo could have put those good games on a good system. Now they are miles behind Sony and Microsoft. This was their worse mistake since the Virtual Boy.
When you think about it, the Gamecube was one of the best systems Nintendo released. It had an absolutely amazing library of games, and no one can deny it. It's underrated so much.

Its funny how she said "it didn't compete well because other consoles could multitask" yet today people hate multitasking consoles. Just look at xbox one.
I don't care what others think about it. The gamecube will always be my favorite console, and hold a special place in my heart. And no next gen console will ever change that.
I never owned a GameCube, but my cousin did and I loved playing some of his games with him, such as Smash Bros. and others. Now I have some of those great games for my Wii.
the Gamecube's Wavebird Controller actually did revolutionize using Wireless controllers, because it used radio waves instead of infared waves, meaning you didn't have to point it directly at the reviever.
This is the console I first owned and I lucky enough to own LOST of the games on many top 10 lists out there, it's controller is my favorite of all time and the nostalgia when playing games is overwhelming. This is truly THE BEST console.
I wouldn't say the GameCube controller didn't bring anything new to the table. It had analog shoulder buttons, something no other Nintendo controller has been built with to this day, and yet is a standard among other console controllers. It also had the disproportionately sized ABXY buttons, which was a pretty genius idea. The A-button, the main action button, was the most prominent and easily accessed, with other buttons within easy reach. Easily one of the best controllers.
I still cite this video as the reason I fully got into video games. Sure I had a Gameboy and a DS but through finding this video I not only got into retro games due to discovering your channel, but console gaming as a whole due to seeing a brief clip of windwaker after thinking phantom hourglass and (my favourite) spirit track were the only zelda games
I have a black Gamecube with Red glowing lights. I always hated it, until i got the Phazon suit from MP1, and realized just how awesome my luck had been.
IMO still the GameCube keeps bonus points in my book for being a system with a total cube form/design, you may think i'm crazy but that's actually really cool though
Then modders made the Wii U 100% backwards compatible with all GameCube games in HD, with hard drive load times and Wireless 80 hour battery pro controller support, making the GameCube DOUBLE obsolete.
You are so right for Super Smash Brawl and the Gamecube controllers. Normally I love the classic controller, but for me it's a must. Maybe because I start played the Melee version first and over 100 hours.
I remember back when the Gamecube was popular, I actually didn't know a single person who owned the purple model. Mine was black, and so was nearly every other one I saw until the platinum model launched. I didn't even see a purple one in the flesh until a few years ago.
actually the gamecube did have a hook, the button layout was amazing,it made non-gamers able to pickup and play without looking down at the controller.
@thatguyontheright1 You are completely right, the Gamecube was the last true game system. I didn't buy one so I could watch DVDs on it, I bought it to play games, and it has a great library of overlooked and underrated games. The Gamecube is awesome!
The Nintendo GameBoy Advance was my first console, but my first home console (And the one that I miss the most; it eventually stopped reading its discs, forcing me to use the Wii's Backwards Compatibility) was the GameCube. I still have my controllers and old memory card for it, though I eventually got a new one after my first went corrupt. I have around, ah... Ten games for that little thing, and I love them all. Metroid Prime's my favorite. All hail the Nintendo GameCube.
I had a PS2, so I had to go over to my friend's house to play GC games, but I enjoyed the GC games way more. And whenever I play Brawl, I so in fact use the Gamecube controller. I never got used to playing it with the Wiimote + Nunchuck setting.
This is adorable. Many of my friends typically seem baffled at how many GCN games I have, as if they'd just assumed it had crappy games back in the day.
It might be because the Gamecube was my first game system ever, but the controller feels less like a controller to me and more like an extension of my hands. It feels more natural than a keyboard.
When I was in 4th grade, my puppy pissed on the top of my Gamecube and I had to clean all of that with gloves and a bunch of Clorox wipes. I don't use this Gamecube anymore, as I have another one. but it still works when I turn it on.
