Part 2 the final four days of our offshore journey home on our new to us Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Oven failure, sargassum on props and a clogged holding tank helped our days pass a little quicker. Highlight at the end - sailing our catamaran through our home inlet!
Follow our journey as we plan a 4 yr circumnavigation visiting 40 countries spanning 6 continents on a budget of $4,000/mo.

Love seeing the real life! I don't know about anyone else but this set of videos has been so educational for us since we are basically 2 years behind you. I can't wait to see more info about the moorings transaction. Don't need the real number, but categories and % would be awesome. Also pitfalls and areas you would change. Can't wait to see ya in Annapolis!

I'm not much for superstitions but bananas were considered bad luck on boats back in the day. If you can hang them in position like they grow, they generally ripen faster. There are hangers for this purpose usually cheap at grocery stores. Enjoyed finding your channel.

Of course too late now, but to ripen bananas put them in a paper bag that is loosely closed. If you have an apple, or avocado that is ripe it will help. The reason is that they ripen faster with ethylene gas (which they produce when ripe).
@SailingParadiseFalls
@SailingParadiseFalls 11 месяцев назад
We are always learning! Living in a first world country, we have always bought ripe bananas and we always kept apples away from bananas due to them over ripening. There were no ripe bananas in the grocery in the BVI, so we bought the green ones. We never knew that they were so hard before they ripened up. Thanks for following our journey and the great tip!

Good advice! I’ll see how I could rig that up for our queen size wall to wall bed.
@tvelocidad
@tvelocidad 11 месяцев назад
I don't understand why you'd be so concerned with putting stress on the rig with only 10 knots of wind. That boat can handle a heck of a lot more. People are crossing oceans with that lagoon.
@SailingParadiseFalls
@SailingParadiseFalls 11 месяцев назад
Yes, the boat can handle a lot of stress. The issue was that with the wind direction, wind speed and waves coming from 2 directions. When the boat rolled to one side, there was not enough wind to keep the sail taut and it would flog then slam when the boat came back over and the wind filled it. This was happening over and over. We had minimal supplies onboard for and we did not want to chance a piece of the rigging breaking or chafing though lines. So we decided to err on the side of caution. It's going to be a learning process! Thanks for following our journey!!

great videos! Just watched all of them to date - love your determination and positive attitudes! I hope your boat prep work is going well and looking forward to see more of your progress! Now that you're this far in does the $4k/month budget seem reasonable still? Does that include things like insurance and your boat mortgage as well?

Yeah, It was the provision in the BVI. We think the weevils were in the packaging when we bought it as the other ones did not have them. We have a couple of Go Pros. a 5, 8 and 9. The 8 an 9 are a huge improvement from the 5. I vaguely remember the conversation but can't recall the actual discussion. Good to hear from you!

Off to a good start. Is there not a pump on the black water tank ?
@SailingParadiseFalls
@SailingParadiseFalls 11 месяцев назад
No, the discharge is gravity induced. There are 3 tanks, 2 on Starboard and one on port. all of them are just under the main deck. The electric toilets macerate and pump the waste up to the top of the tanks. There is a valve under the tank that leads to a large thru-hull. When the tanks are full, you open the thru-hull and then open the valve and the tank empties. When sailing offshore, most let it wide open the entire time. Bill was able to dislodge a bit of stuff and we left it open until we were 3 miles from shore. With the waves rocking the boat, it shifted what ever was holding the waste in and emptied. Alternatively, we have deck fittings for pump out and use that while cocked or moored. The saga with the heads is only beginning though! More to come on that subject in future episodes. Thanks for the message and for following our journey!
@MrCybernick
@MrCybernick 11 месяцев назад
@@SailingParadiseFalls .. Are there air vents on the tanks ? might be blocked causing a vacume in the tank not allowing the fluid to flow out.. I skippered luxury liveaboard dive boats in the EgyptsSinai Red Sea back in the mid 90s so i feel your pain. All the very best ....
