People forget that at one time the BeeGees were SO popular and SO saturated on the radio that there was an actual back lash against their success. Everything they touched was solid gold. ✌️

I think the back lash wasn’t because they were so pop, I think it was because they went so strong, commercially, into Disco and were viewed as “selling out”.

@@robrobertson4619 I never viewed the Bee Gees as disco at all, that backlash was homophobic & unfortunately, the Bee Gees were scapegoated through their association with it...I always viewed them as pop/powerpop, even a bit of country, a little white funk, but never disco, not that disco/dance music was a bad thing, it wasn't...but yes, the Bee Gees were huge, whether hits for themselves or given to others...

From the mid to late 70s they were ABSOLUTELY disco to the extent that they were often referred to in the media as The Disco Kings and the backlash WAS because they were perceived as sellouts by their up til then very loyal Folk/Pop fan base. I was a fan since the 60s through all of their iterations including the disco era. When you went to a disco club during that time it seemed like every 4th or 5th song was a Bee Gees tune. Anyone who was around back then will tell you they were definitely disco for a time. Watch the movie Saturday Night Fever if you don’t believe me- the soundtrack is dominated by them.

I can't believe after 40-plus years, people are still calling the Bee Gees a disco group! They were never and when asked the Bee Gees denied they were anything but R&B during that time. Am I supposed to believe the artist's or someone's uneducated opinion? Someone I was talking to about the Bee Gees & he was arguing that the Bee Gees were a disco group when I told him there is a fine line between disco & R&B, then I told him the so-called first disco song in the mainstream was a tune by George Mccrae “Rock Your Baby” It sounds like R&B to me. This is what that guy wrote to me! @75397 You're right, there's a fine line between disco and R&B, and the Bee Gees were primarily known for their work in the pop and disco genres. Most songs they wrote in other genres, such as soul, R&B, and even film soundtracks, were written for other artists.

This song is never recognized as one of their top songs though it was a big hit for them but this is one of my favorites from their legendary catalog. They jumped right into R&B with no problems which made them one of the few groups who could cross genres and be great in each one.

I'm Brazilian and when I broke up with my teenage boyfriend, this song was a huge hit in Brazil. And he said to me (in Portuguese): "As the Bee Gees say, how a love so right can turn out to be so wrong?" Even today, more than 40 years later, I remember him whenever I hear this song.

I started watching reaction videos a little over a year ago because I love to watch young people discover all the music that has made me, and still lives in me these past 52 years. But I only just found your channel recently and quickly became a fan. Oh, yes, I think I’ve mentioned that the most moving Bee Gees video out there is a concert after both Robin and Mo had passed, and Barry is singing I Started a Joke. Robin joins in via old video clip for the verse where he sings “until I finally died, which started the whole world living”.

Ohhhh Jay!! You said it! Barry has the best falsetto ever because "He's Him"!!! Did you hear how full the chorus sounded? That's because that chorus wasn't just Robin and Mo - it was 18 tracks of Barry singing as well. Their sound engineer told the story. Said that all 18 tracks had every note, breath, and beat in perfect harmony & timimg - no mistakes! Incredible talent. Loved your reaction and appreciation of my beloved Bee Gees!! ❤❤🎶❤❤🎶❤❤

This really isn't disco, it's R&B based, outstanding lyrics, beautiful melody and harmony, emotional filled magnificence. Yes, definitely some ooohs for Barry from me. This is from "Children of the World" in 1976. The whole album is spectacular. And, Jay you are right in this conversation. No better harmony. Thanks for giving us "your guys." I couldn't love them more. (Think I am the president, but I'll definitely have you in my cabinet). Oh you guys. I love you mentioned Barry White. On an episode of Jimmy Fallon's "That's my Jam" Josh Grobin was playing "Barryoke." He had to sing Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in falsetto when Barry Gibb's picture came up and switch to low baritone when Barry White's picture came up. Total Fun!!

@@kthor Thank you. There were lots of groups who did outstanding harmony. The Eagles come to mind, but the brothers are my favorite. I get such a kick out of Jimmy Fallon's show. Everyone knows what a beautiful voice Josh Grobin has, but Chance the Rapper was on the same episode. Who knew he could sing Country?

@@stevebyrne6537 Yes the "One Night Only" tour in Las Vegas was the best rendition of that song they did together. 99.99% of the time I say to always listen to the studio version of ANY song first before any live version, no matter how good it is. However, for "Immortality" it is the exact opposite for me. The live version reigns supreme on that one!!!

@@michaelderamo1866 - I think the "making of" video was the best for "Immortality". So many rave about the Vegas show in general but I thought that concert was very lack luster and my least favorite. It just had no energy. The "One for all" concert was IMO far superior. They were also younger and in better voice. The A&E Live by Request was also terrific with great audience interaction and very relaxed.

The Bee Gees could sing the phone book - they crossed so many genres with success that the Bee Gee Free movement tried to neutralize them. The only thing that that movement did was to have them be more songwriters than music performers. No one can match their ability to craft words into powerful music. And this song is one of their most underrated efforts.

When i first heard this song, it was in their documentary 'How can you mend a broken heart'. At 1am that night, i was in my room and i listened to it in full at least 20 times, cranked to the max, eyes closed mouthing all the words and just letting the vocals just take my body away. Even now i'm swaying with the music, this song is pure magic and i will never not love it for as long as i live

Back in the day, we considered this song a ‘slow jam’ and not disco. It’s one of my favorites by the BeeGees, but like others have mentioned, “Fanny Be Tender” is also a favorite; along with “My Lover’s Prayer” (which features a small solo from Robin Gibb). It was mentioned in a music documentary that the BeeGees were influenced by The Stylistics. If you guys haven’t reacted to “Betcha By Golly Wow” or “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” definitely give these ‘slow jams’ a listen.

@@Jessica_Roth - They did songs that could be classified as disco but were in fact R&B before the SNF soundtrack like "Nights on Broadway", "Jive Talkin" and "Wind of change" from the "Main Course" LP in 1975. Older IMO would be their great 60's stuff from LP's like Horizontal, Bee Gees First, Trafalgar, Idea, &c.

OMGosh! I'd almost given up on hearing more BeeGees on my favorite channel!!! Now you just have to check out Fanny Be Tender (with My Heart) and you will kick yourself for not listening sooner! It's the song that legendary producer Quincy Jones ( who produced so many legendary artists and had a record of 80 Grammy Award nominations,[2] 28 Grammys,[2] and a Grammy Legend Award in 1992) said was his favorite R&B song ever! My favorite ballad from the Brothers during the 60's is without a doubt "To Love Somebody" but from the 70's THIS one is hands down my favorite ballad. I've heard many ballads sung by just as many singers, male and female but no one seems to convey a broken heart with such soul and conviction as Barry. He starts out with a vocal that's soft and melancholy, pulls you in for an unforgettable ride on an emotional roller coaster that makes you feel exactly what he's feeling while simultaneously tearing your heart out. There's a love, a "heartbreakingly" beautiful longing to know why it went bad and a hidden resolve to love again that seems to come from another place and fill his voice. I'm watching this again just to see Jay's reaction and to see Amber watching and enjoying his response.
